I'm fine with Halo moving to Activision. Halo studios had their chance multiple times and there are plenty of super talented FPS devs at Activision that are just waiting to get off COD support duty.
Honestly the best thing now would be if the sheer greed/desperation at EA from the huge debt the Saudis and Kushner forced on them leads to them actually selling off or licencing out IPs, something EA has historically been extremely averse to doing (for no clear reason). So in a sense Halo going to Activision is similar to the best case here now. Some other studio buying or licencing ME.
Eh. Could be worse. The real monkey's paw would be a company buying it who would never actually use it and/or never actually put out a narrative game. I'd honestly prefer Ubisoft buy it to say, Paradox.
If the paw doesn't curl, maybe CDPR can buy it though.
You have to climb a mountain with the Mako on every planet to reveal the points of interest on the map. Each POI is one of 12 gameplay activities copied thousands of times across the solar system. World exploration follows a fixed order because enemy levels gate your progression through accessible areas. Gameplay at the start is the same as in the late game, just with higher damage numbers. Story missions mostly involve the main character being drugged while you hold down the move-forward button and let the level designers go wild with their latest tunnel-of-horror ride.
Sure... name a Studio that would actually have the time and the talent to pull it off though and not fumble "their first game" in the franchise because "they need to find their stride"...
I don't know - loads of studios come out of the gate strong. Bit Reactor had never made a game together before they made Zero Company, to give a recent example. I think the best bet would be a new studio formed explicitly to do this, if you really want to succeed.
The real issue isn't that it couldn't be done, it's that it would need to be a sale rather than a licencing to attract top talent. And EA are more likely to want to licence. If we do see more ME games I would bet on something smaller-scale, like an ME XCOM-type game rather than a full-on narrative RPG first.
If we just want to look at "have the skills", then CDPR would be the #1 choice, maybe they could dump Project Hadar for it, but I have a feeling Project Hadar may be space SF anyway. It seems very likely that or something Lovecraftian. They certainly have experience doing a great job with licenced IPs.
