This is my Msi Megabook VR610 from ~may 2007. It shipped with windows vista originally, but when i bought it on ebay, (for 20€!!!) i put various Linux distros on it. I first tried Mint, but that was too much for the laptop. Then gentoo, but i was too stupid for that. So i went with Debian. The Laptop came without any storage, so i put an 118gb ssd in it and i also repasted the athlon 64x2 and the ati 1200 graphics chip. I also have to smear the fan on a daily basis. The thing sounds like a Diesel-engine if it doesnt get enough attention from me. The battery only lasts about 45min, if you only stare at the screen and do nothing else. But it is usable. I mainly use it as a temporary storage for photos i take, when i'm not home. And for writing stuff down, like video scripts.

okay I wanted to download The Sims 4 but it said it needed 26 GB, and I only had about 2 GB free on my laptop. I only had a few apps downloaded on it. I got it in December 2024 and I had Roblox, Spotify, Discord, & Acellus downloaded so I deleted all these apps - besides Acellus because I use it for school then I still didnt have enough storage, so I decided to go into my files and just blindly delete anything that I was unfamiliar with that was taking up space and now my laptop is doing this.. How do I fix it? Do I need to take it to a repair shop. Please help

I am looking for something durable, reliable and decently repairable. I work remotely so I would need something with reliable performance, not really for running high CPU usage software or games. I am on a bit of a budget so I am willing to compromise on some of these things.

Recently got myself an HP omnibook ultra flip, with the ultra 9 288v. But I have 2 issues, one is that the HP just refuses to save the system control settings. If I put it in quiet mode, after sleep or restart, it is reverted back to "smart sense", which just has the fans on 24/7. And the other things are the fans. They are quite literally on 24/7 for no reason, making noise and draining my battery faster than it needs to.

I have a friend who had the previous gen, the spectre x360, and I don't think I've heard his fans ever turn on...

Anyone who knows what to do? The laptop is otherwise amazing

What a shocker, I need help suggesting a laptop. My main things are will it last, I’m using an 8yo machine which would be fine, except I cannot repair it. So I want a laptop to last but can be repaired easily. I’m thinking getting a used elitebook 840 G7, but want a second oppinion.

It has 24gb Ram and 512 ssd, intel core i5 and oled screen. I don't game or do heavy work.

I've got an acer nitro v16 which I'm not able to open the bottom panel of (and I'm too scared to try too hard). Can i get away with blowing it with an air duster without opening it up to clean?

If so, what's the process?

I know i have to somehow stop the blades from moving, and i have to make sure my laptop is completely powered off, but other than that, I'm not sure if there is anything else that I need to consider.

I have an Aorus BSF15. It was running quite hot so i took it in to get repasted and cleaned out.

It came back fans clean and everything but when i run mildly intensive stuff it gets hot (~85°C on GPU and ~ 70°C CPU) and the air blown out is a little bit hotter than lukewarm.

Is this to be expected or was something done incorrectly?

Im thinking about getting my parents a laptop for Christmas. They would just be using it for everyday general use, no gaming or anything crazy like that.
