As a former police K9 handler of two dogs over 15 years I can assure you this handler is an absolute idiot. You never let your dog off leash anywhere there are potential injury hazards.

We had our local K9 officer leave his dog in the patrol car in the summer when he got home.

The dog died he found it the next morning, and they gave him another one.

This is like the lady who's grandkid drowned in a nearby pond while she wasn't paying attention. The mother had another kid and eventually let her watch that one too; just for grandma to forget her in a hot car for a couple hours. When it comes to life and death, you can't be giving negligent people second chances - honest accident or not

ffs, I saw the EWU video about that case and the mother's fucking stupidity and grief made me so mad.

LIKE WTF why would you leave a child with this person without other supervision??? Once is enough.

Her therapist convinced her to trust the grandma again and let her babysit as a part of the “healing process”. The therapist was banking on grandma having learned her lesson to pay attention to the world around her and care about other living beings.

  1. That's when you get a new therapist.

  2. As Grandma, I would refuse. Live footage of me after anyone's baby dies in my care, let alone my own grandkid:

ETA: I couldn't find a gif, the link is to Toni Collette in 'Hereditary', screaming on the floor that she wants to die.

I'd sue the therapist, if I was the mom. Put that stupid fucker out of business. Get their licensing removed. Make them lose their fucking family too (through divorce because of being unemployable NOT because of violence).

I've always thought that situations like this are really sad because in reality I would never forgive someone the first time even if it was an honest mistake. One accident would ruin any level of relationship forever even if it was no one's fault.

This is one of my biggest fears because my son fell asleep once in back seat and I briefly forgot he was in there. I noticed as soon I walked past the window, but it scared me enough that I set the alarm in my vehicle that gives a message to check the back seat when the vehicle shuts off.

Oh god, that one just endlessly pisses me off. Absolute best-case scenario is she’s in early dementia, otherwise she’s just a colossal fucking idiot

Something similar happened in my city. We've got beaches everywhere, and one of them had a volcano (inactive) with rock pools at the base. It's well known for being dangerous if you're not paying attention. One group of kids was out with grandma for the day, and she wasn't even within arms each of the five year old, let alone holding his hand or anything. He got swept away, never to be seen again.

The vast majority of people called it an accident/tragedy. Pretty much anyone who called out the carelessness of the grandmother were met with anger.

That was in 2014, but there was another last year, where some grandparents left their four year old granddaughter swimming in a park fountain. She drowned, despite there being several adults around and aware.

Both situations of negligence, but neither resulted in charges against those at fault.
