It’s a cue for him to start working. That’s what I read anyways

It's part of how they're trained. When they find what they're supposed to find it's a reward. They only get their ball when they complete their job. They go absolutely crazy for those balls.

He probably should have just gently tossed it or rolled it a little and not thrown it.

Maybe they should adjust their training so the dog doesn't fall off a bridge.

Pigs are only as smart as your average 3 year old child. They lack critical thinking skills.

Live with one of these dogs then get back to me.

Mine left the bar tonight and immediately turned around to go back in and walked into the door. Head first. They just....be like that. They're great dogs but they ain't always the brightest dogs

That's how they get the dog to search. They pretend the throw a toy that has the same scent as what they're looking for, then the dog goes looking for it. If they find the matching scent, they signal and wait for the handler to give them the toy.

LOL where did you get that info from?! 🤣🤣🤣 That is absolutely NOT how they get them to search. The dogs are given commands to search and they have their specific things they search for. Drug dogs are specifically trained to search for drugs of all kinds, bomb/explosive dogs search for the smell of gun powder, other chemicals used in making bombs etc. They don't freaking pull the "you want this? Go get it! Psych!" trick on these dogs 🤣🤣🤣 what a moronic comment. When they successfully locate said scent, they are REWARDED with a ball. That's as far as that goes though.

The handlers themselves, and watching them do it. They very much did have an object scented for what they were looking for. That's how the dogs would know. The handler would guide them where they wanted to search, but the dog thought they were playing a game.

Yeah they may have something with similar scent and let them sniff it first, they don't ever fake a throw and act like nothing is in their hand anymore lol. Whoever you saw doing that is definitely unique individual then. I've been to tons of demonstrations as well, no one has ever faked a toy throw to trick the dogs and even Google says they don't.

Even if that’s the case, they should’ve had a leash on the canine.

I’m glad he got emergency care and was saved, but a $10 leash would’ve saved taxpayers thousands of dollars.

You sure seem to have strong opinions about something you are just learning about

95% of redditors basically

Yeah I mean if there is one thing to have faith in it is surely the training methods of American cops….

It’s not rocket science.

Have you or anyone else given a reason as to why he can’t be leashed for his own safety while performing his duties? No.

A leash would’ve saved this dog immense pain and thousands of taxpayer dollars. Yet somehow that is an audacious take to you and your fellow ignorant redditors who downvoted a reasonable assessment of the incident.

You literally have zero idea what you're talking about. Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong. You just don't know nor have you made any effort to learn. You've just assumed that you know better based on one 10 second clip.

You are the definition of willful, obstinate ignorance. Improve yourself.

So, you bring assumptions/negativity, which is ultimately nothing of substance, to the comments section?

You make zero sense.

Okay well according to this article when sniffer dogs are searching for potential explosives it's standard procedure to have the dog off leash

The officer followed protocol, but that doesn’t mean the protocol isn’t flawed.

I don’t see any reasoning why a long leash would hinder the canine’s duties in said scenario.

UTA has their own police dept. When you go through orientation they bring in the K-9 unit and demonstrate the dogs looking for explosives. This is definitely NOT how it's done. It's a command.

Fucking thank you. Dumbest shit I've seen in a bit.... his run after the fact was also depressing as hell... the bar is low these days I guess

  1. It was near the bottom of the ramp.

  2. It was closed, and the dog spends a ton of the day in the cruiser so anytime you get out it's prudent to let them run around a little to stretch their legs. It's not like the dog was at risk of getting hit.

Look again bud. That dog yeeted itself at peak height.... Look where he is laying... This dumb ass cop found his equivalent in the dog kingdom. Power couple.

Yeah was wrong, looked like the bottom on my first watch. Either way, not his fault the dog decided to leap over the barrier.
