IT BOOTS! (WIP) Google Pixel 1 (2016) now running iOS 16 with full GPU acceleration

Quick update on the Pixel 1 running iOS 16. I got the GPU working, so the whole iOS UI is now rendered by the Pixel's own Adreno 530 instead of the CPU. It also boots a lot faster now, about 20 seconds from the boot screen to the lock screen.

How the GPU part works, for the people who asked last time: iOS normally only talks to Apple GPUs through Metal, which obviously doesn't exist for an Adreno. But Core Animation (the thing that draws the whole iOS UI) still has an old OpenGL ES renderer hidden inside it. So with a lot of help from Claude, I wrote a GPU driver in the iOS kernel for the Adreno 530: power, clocks, firmware, memory, command submission. On top of that I ported Mesa's open source freedreno driver (the same one Linux uses) to iOS. Core Animation thinks it's talking to Apple's OpenGL, but every frame is actually drawn by Mesa on the Adreno, running at 600 MHz.

Getting it to look right was the hardest part. Some of the effects iOS uses (blurs, Control Center buttons, the lock screen clock) depend on shaders Apple never wrote for OpenGL, so I had to write those myself. The GPU also scales every frame up to the Pixel's 1080p screen, and the screen now refreshes at up to 60 Hz instead of 30.

Other stuff since the last post:

  • All the stock apps are there now (Weather, Calendar, Notes, Maps, Music, Files...)
  • The default iOS 16 wallpaper works
  • Real battery percentage and charging
  • All 4 cores running (turbo up to 2.15 GHz works too, but it gets really hot with no thermal management, so it's off by default)

Still not working: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, sound, camera, and anything that needs Metal. It's a cool demo, not a daily driver.

Everything is on GitHub now, including the GPU driver and the iOS port of Mesa: https://github.com/joranv1/ios-sailfish

Big thanks to dipa-studio for the original ios-sweet port this is built on, and to the Mesa/freedreno folks.

SUCCESS Hardware acceleration on a 5080…

I never thought I’d see this day. I’ve been hackintoshing for a decade, but after High Sierra they ended support for my 1080Ti so I switched to team AMD. I had a RX 580, then a 6900XT, both natively supported. I got a 7900XTX which cost more than the Nvidia alternatives so that I could hackintosh but support never came. Last April I gave up and side graded to a 5080 liquid because the AMD card ran hot.

Little did I know, the 5080 would be the one to run macOS Tahoe. I remember sitting at WWDC that year hearing them announce live in person they’re ending intel support thinking “yeah I’m never hackintoshing again”. Got an M5 Pro machine and everything. But now I got to enjoy it again, with such an easy setup too.

I love this community.

SUCCESS Working macOS 26 Hackintosh on ASUS ROG/ i5-10600KF!

Post image
56 Upvotes

Really the only thing that doesn't work is AirDrop, DRM, and sadly audio, but since I use it as a headless machine, I don't think it matters, I use it with Remote Desktop and for audio, I use BlackhHole 2ch. Everything else luckily works really fine!

CPU: Intel i5 10600KF
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (MSI)
RAM: Samsung 128GB DDR4 3200MHz (32GB each)
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-G GAMING (Wi-Fi)
Audio Codec: Realtek ALC1220 (not detected by AppleHDA on macOS 26)
Ethernet Card: Realtek RTL8125B
Wi-Fi/BT card: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (Bluetooth integrated)
BIOS revision: 3302
macOS version: 26.7.1 (25G241)

Tbh this took a really long time, and I was stuck on Sequoia, because the MSI version of the AMD card I have, wasn't supported properly, and didn't boot even with the OC options until now.

Adobe and Topaz programs also work perfectly fine!

SUCCESS 4070 Passthrough working in Windows 11

Post image

I got it working in KVM passthrough in Windows 11 with DDA modifications. I haven't gotten audio working yet, but network, kbm and gpu passthrough work as I'm on a dual GPU machine. I only need it for a few paid apps I lost access to after selling my Apple devices and they work well enough so It's probably good enough for now.
Laptop Specs:
i9 13950hx
RTX 4070
32GB RAM
8 Cores & 6GB passed through + Full GPU, with the laptop screen running on the Intel iGPU

SUCCESS MacOS Tahoe running on Raptor Lake (Intel Iris Xe) with OpenCore

Post image
444 Upvotes

*git repo on the post footer*

Quick report for anyone wondering: macOS boots and runs on the Dell XPS 13 Plus 9320 (Raptor Lake, Intel Iris Xe graphics) using OpenCore, with hardware graphics acceleration working.

Working

- Boot and normal desktop use

- Iris Xe graphics acceleration

- Touchscreen

- Bluetooth

- NVMe, USB, PS/2 and I2C input

- Intel Wi-Fi through itlwm + HeliPort

Not working yet

- Audio still untested

I got acceleration working yesterday. Now that I can work directly on the installed system, finishing everything will go much faster. This is still a work in progress, with testing and improvements ongoing, and I'll keep updating this post throughout the day today.

Update (Oct 20, 17:00): Reinstalling the system on the internal SSD for compatibility. Screenshots and other confirmations soon.

Update (Oct 20, 22:20): Video showcase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZMlno5d__g

Update (Oct 20, 22:30): the project is now on GitHub, with docs and an easy installer → https://github.com/JulioNectar/Hackintosh-XPS13Plus-IrisXe-Tahoe

Update (Oct 21, 13:15): big day. New since the GitHub release:

- All 16 CPU threads (4P + 8E): E-cores used to freeze the boot right after EXITBS. On 4P+8E Raptor Lake, OpenCore's ProvideCurrentCpuInfo makes xnu divide by zero. One byte in Cpuid1Data fixes it (details in the repo).

- Hardware H.264 decode on the Iris Xe, bit-exact vs. software, for VideoToolbox apps (QuickTime, Photos, editors). HEVC works in testing.

- Fast shutdown: it used to stall ~3 min and panic.

- Screen recording and video conversions work; no more green frames.

- Safari video plays (it needs an audio output; BlackHole works).

- Touchscreen gestures: one-finger scroll, hold for right click, edge swipes, pen, magnifier.

- More stable UI-scale switching.

IT BOOTS!

- 16GB RAM DDR3

- Intel Core i7-4700MQ con Intel HD 4600

- SSD SATA

INFO/GUIDE XHUB Mapper – Got Tables? ;)

Post image
9 Upvotes

Got inspired by all the exciting new Hackintosh projects coming out lately, so I started working on a little side project of my own: XHUB Mapper.

It automates ACPI-based USB port mapping using the XHUB/HUBX method. A lot of people seem to struggle with mapping USB ports via ACPI. It's still a work in progress, and I need more ACPI tables from different Intel systems to make the detection and port analysis more reliable.

If you'd like to help, please send me a download link via DM to your OpenCore SysReport/ACPI folder (DSDT and SSDT files). Please only share tables from one system at a time, and remove any personal or sensitive information before sharing.

Thanks!

QUESTION Hackintosh on AMD Ryzen 7 + 5060 Laptop Is macOS Sequoia GPU Acceleration Possible?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking into running macOS Sequoia on my Windows laptop and would appreciate advice from people experienced with Hackintosh, especially on AMD Ryzen laptops with .R.T.X. GPUs.
My current laptop specifications:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 260 (3.80 GHz)
Integrated GPU: AMD Radeon 780M
Dedicated GPU: NVIDIA .R.T.X. 5060 Laptop GPU (8 GB VRAM)
RAM: 16 GB
Storage: Approximately 1 TB SSD
OS: Windows 11, 64-bit
What I want to achieve:
I’d like to dual-boot macOS and Windows on the same laptop, ideally running macOS Sequoia or a newer supported version. My main priority is getting proper GPU acceleration rather than running macOS with basic display output.
I understand that NVIDIA .R.T.X. 50-series GPUs aren’t supported for native macOS graphics acceleration, but I’m curious whether the integrated Radeon 780M can be made to work, or whether there are any alternative approaches worth exploring.
My questions:
Is macOS Sequoia installable on the AMD Ryzen 7 260 platform using OpenCore?
Is there any way to get hardware GPU acceleration working on the Radeon 780M?
Can the NVIDIA .R.T.X. 5060 Laptop GPU be used in macOS at all, or is it completely unsupported for acceleration?
Are there any successful Hackintosh builds using similar AMD mobile platforms or Radeon 780M graphics?
What major issues should I expect with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio, sleep, trackpad, brightness control and power management?
Would you recommend attempting this installation, or would a virtual machine be the more practical option?
I’m comfortable following technical guides and troubleshooting, but I’d prefer to understand the realistic limitations before spending time on this.
If anyone has tested a similar configuration, I’d appreciate your experience, EFI references and any relevant compatibility information.

DEV New Heliport updates!

Little bit late they were released a couple of days ago but here is what was fixed:
Fixed using Heliport on MacOS 26 (use https://github.com/jzrodriguez98/itlwm)

Fixed sometimes connecting to the wrong network (not the one selected) and failing due to wrong password.

Fixed Signing issues that stopped it being able to be installed.

Slowly adding support for Apple Silicon (as a network analyser).

https://github.com/joshcalvert47/HeliPort

Enjoy :)
