New Rule Posted - Fuck Cancer
Rule #9 has been posted as a further explanation regarding our automod, specifically around the phrase "fuck cancer". We review each of those as they come through and approve them as quickly as we can. It can be frustrating so we wanted to add some transparency to how things work to keep this place supportive. Cancer is horrible to many people, their friends, and families; and we are happy that the community at r/bald can provide some minor relief to those managing the awful disease. Fuck cancer.

I just to add that I've been a long time lurker here, and through this subreddit it had already given me the quiet confidence to embrace the bald look. However I've been diagnosed with stage 4 MALT Lymphoma and now in my 2nd round of treatment and I've lost even more hair, on head and other places...
The point I'm trying to make is that I'm incredibly grateful for this community, whatever your reasons are, people's responses are always welcoming. So thanks everyone, and of course; Fuck cancer. 💪

I'm a breast cancer survivor and I used to hate when people would say "it's just hair" as obviously hair is a really big deal, gestures to this entire sub. I'm cheering you on!! Fuck cancer indeed

I'm a guy who's always had short hair and I knew it was coming from the beginning. It was still a Big Deal to have my hair suddenly coming out in clumps.
I think it's a very tangible reminder that the cancer is real and happening, and the choice of how you wear your hair being taken away, like all hair loss. At the time I felt like I wasn't in charge of my body and appearance anymore. Fuck Cancer.
Losing eyelashes had the most impact for me, I think every single one fell out directly into my eyes and windy days are torture.

Indeed. My wife's aunt passed with breast cancer a few years back but she rocked a lovely head of sliver hair (old school style) and when it went, it was heartbreaking to watch. It wasn't just hair - she lost her sense of self.
Glad you're doing well now! Honestly I'm more upset about my beard thinning and falling out...I have a chin of a chipmunk but a big nose lol.

Fuck cancer. Getting my first prostate exam as I just turned 40 and I'm nervous. Good vibes would be appreciated.

Good for you! Prostate is one thing, but if you have any family history then get a colonoscopy! I got one last year in my early 40s after losing my uncle to colon cancer. All the men in my family did, because fuck cancer!

Hey, fuck cancer. If you have a lot of colon cancer in your family get a genetic test for Lynch Syndrome! It correlates to a bunch of different cancers and is pretty uncommon, I guess. My dads family carries it. If your parent has Lynch you have a 50% chance of having it also.
Fuck cancer. Do preventative care as much as you can afford.

Lot of young people getting it. They’re going to need to lower the age of preventative screening. I had a hell of a time getting my insurance to cover my colonoscopy because I’m not 45

Seconded. A lot of people express nervousness about colonoscopies but they’re really not bad. The sedation is actually kind of pleasant.
Before “hurr hurr username checks out,” yes, it does. Generally you have a lot of colonoscopies before they decide to remove the entire organ.

The procedure itself is nothing. You’re asleep the whole time. It’s the drinking a gallon of that liquid that is somehow tasteless and disgusting and then having to stay up all night in the bathroom lol

Ah shit I actually forgot about that part. I still get scoped somewhat often, but I don’t have to do the prep anymore since everything kinda just rockets right through me.

Ask your doc about a psa Test as well.
Don t be nervous, it is not the most fun, but better than the alternative!

Nice. I’ve been automodded out for typing fuck cancer a couple of times, so I’m glad I can type fuck cancer here now.
Fuck cancer.

It will still continue to be removed from the automod. We always replaced it and will continue to do so.This post is an attempt to prevent people from assuming the worst. Admittedly this is likely overdue.

I'm probably dense, but I only see 5 rules in the info page? Maybe because I'm using mobile. And... as a cancer survivor and once bald patient - thank you for this!
