every single day the news shoves elon musk, jeff bezos, and mark zuckerberg in our faces as the "richest people on earth" and honestly once you see why they do it you can't unsee it
if you actually look at how the forbes billionaire list works, multi generational banking dynasties, private family trusts, and institutional funds are completely excluded from the list. as this writeup on the 147 corporations explains, public tech billionaires are just the frontmen hired to act as lightning rods for working class anger while a tight network of 147 interlocking financial institutions controls 40% of the global economy behind closed doors...
those 147 institutions are the reason worker productivity is up 3.5x since 1971 while real wages flatlined, and why starter homes cost $450,000 today instead of the $138,000 they would cost if prices had followed wages. the darkest part in the second half of that article i read is how those exact same institutions are projected to own 40% of single family rental homes by 2030. they realized fifty years ago that workers with paid off homes and free time can't be controlled, so they turned life into an exhausting 50 hour a week treadmill where your paycheck goes straight back to the same corporate landlords who own your boss

Most people assume (and argue very vehemently) that tech billionaires are either libertarians who hate government or progressive Silicon Valley tech bros. If you look at what Peter Thiel presented in the last night of his recent 4-part Antichrist lecture series in Nashville, his actual thesis is way more controversial and intense.
He views global cities as parasitic real estate cartels. Thiel argued that places like SF and NYC aren't centers of progress, but economic black holes that extract wealth through housing scarcity while intellectually and agentically sterilizing their populations.
He frames Pax Americana through political theology. Using biblical terms like the katechon/restrainer holding back apocalyptic chaos, he dismisses China, Russia, and the EU, arguing the US is the only state in human history with total military, financial, and cultural dominance.
He doesn't want to destroy the state. He wants to build parallel rails. Thiel argues that post-1945 centralization turned the imperial presidency into a stagnant administrative bureaucracy. Instead of abolishing the system, his goal is using decentralized technology and capital to bypass coastal regulators and build competing power bases.
If you're curious about what else was said during the lecture series, I addended in person and wrote extensively about each night.
