šŸŽ®šŸ• Autistic Young Adults in NE Ohio & Western PA — Looking for Local Friends? | 330 Spectrum Social ā¤ļø

I recently created a Facebook group called 330 Spectrum Social for autistic young adults ages 18–35 in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania! I'm in the Youngstown area.

Making friends as an adult isn't always easy, especially when you're on the spectrum. Sometimes it's not that you don't want to socialize or get out and do things, it's that you don't have anyone nearby to do those things with. Most of my friendships have been made online with people who live hours away or even in other states, making it difficult to build friendships locally.

That's what inspired me to create this group!

This isn't your typical autism support or resource group! It's a peer-to-peer social group for young adults on the spectrum to meet others their age, connect over shared interests, and hopefully build genuine friendships.

Whether you're into gaming, music, movies, grabbing a bite to eat, checking out local events, or just hanging out, the goal is to bring people together and hopefully create opportunities to meet up locally!

šŸ”’ The group is private but visible, meaning anyone can find it on Facebook and request to join, but only approved members can see posts and conversations within the group.

I just started the group, so please be patient as it grows! I have some posts planned to help break the ice and encourage conversations, but ultimately, I'd love for members to help shape the group and make it their own.

If you're an autistic young adult looking to make local friends, I'd love to have you join!

And if you know someone who might be interested, please feel free to share!

The Merchant Tavern, in the valley, has taken BBQ poutine off their menu. Anyone know any other place I can get it?

West Akron Crime

Hey! Looking to buy a house and I’ve heard quite a lot of mixed opinions. West Akron- between Delia and Copley RD. Is it an OK area to live in nowadays for a small family with a baby? Some people say it’s ok, some people say they hear gunshots every weekšŸ˜…

Thanks!

Moving to Mogadore

Hey everyone! We’re looking at a house in Mogadore but the ratings on Zillow for the schools are giving us some pause (5/10 for both Junior High and High School). Is it as bad as Zillow says it is? Or is just small school less resources type thing? Also in looking at this sub, it seems like people find Mogadore to be extremely right wing and racist. Is this still the case? Thanks!

Karaoke in Akron area?

We moved to Akron a few months ago, and I’m trying to find a place to do karaoke for my birthday. Any suggestions?

I used to be able to rent a party room at the local mall that included a karaoke setup, but I don’t know if there’s anything like that here.

Parking at Blossom

I wanna go to a concert next summer, but I’ve heard parking is a pain and I really don’t want to spend $150 on ā€œVIP Parkingā€. Is Uber a good option here and is there a good pickup area? Looking for any advice navigating travel. Thanks!

Save me from Chili’s

I’m having some work done in my kitchen this week so we ā€œhave toā€ go out for a few days. We don’t go out much as a family and I really want to try some new places. My kids are being kids and really want to go to Chili’s, Cane’s, Swenson’s, etc. I want to try to Green Dragon Inn but they are poo-pooing that idea bc it ā€œdoesn’t sound filling or fun.ā€ My next choice was buckets but they’re closed Monday and Tuesday. They are fans of traditional American restaurant cuisine. I have one vegetarian who loves junk food and one kid who hates pizza but likes sushi and fried chicken. Neither of them like Rockne’s. We’re in West Akron. What would you choose that’s a sit down place and not a chain?

Ps I have no problem with chains and occasionally enjoy them but just looking for something different this week.

ETA thanks for all the great suggestions! I know I’m the adult and kids don’t always get a vote BUT I get to eat out a lot more than they do so this is kinda special for them. We really enjoyed missing falls and hope to go back. We will def be checking out some of these places this week! I’ve been to good company and gasoline alley but they haven’t so they are on the list along with so many others!

Early Voting

Okay please don’t laugh at my questions lol. I’ve never done early voting before!

1.) Is all early voting at the Summit County Board of Elections? I’m assuming my regular polling location wouldn’t be ready of course and the website made it seem it’s all at the Board of Elections. Just want to make sure I go to the right place.

2.) Is there anything I need to bring specifically because I’m voting early?

3.) Are the early afternoon hours usually not super busy? I’ll wait all day if I have to to vote but I’m bringing my 7 year old with me so he can see what happens/the process and wanted to mentally prepare myself lol.

Thanks!!

Anyone need fall cleanup or leaf removal around Akron?

Hey everyone, I own a small landscaping business called Otherside Landscaping and Lawncare out of the Portage Lakes area.

I recently left my full-time job to focus on growing my business, and I'm looking to pick up some more work before winter hits.

With all the leaves falling, I'm currently offering fall cleanups, leaf removal, bush trimming, cutting back plants, gutter cleaning, and general yard cleanups. I can also haul everything away so you don't have to deal with it.

I work around Akron, Green, Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, Uniontown, and the surrounding areas.

I'm happy to give free estimates, and no job is too small to ask about.

If anyone needs some work done or knows someone who does, feel free to shoot me a message. I'd really appreciate the opportunity!

Thanks everyone!

Best bakery for unique bread, specifically hot dog buns.

I’m looking to make some Chicago style hot dog buns as original as possible and didn’t know if anywhere around town would actually have hot dog buns with black sesame seeds on them? If not somewhere that just makes good, fresh hot dog buns as a viable option?

Foundation Repair Contractors

Hi everyone,

Bought a house in Akron last year, it's older and needs some work. We took off the "vanity panels" or whatever they're called on the front of the porch and found a real shady "foundation." And it looks like a couple of the "blocks" if I'm even allowed to call them blocks, are starting to fail.

Two foundation walls of the home were replaced by previous owner, and I suspect was water proofed as well. Naturally, the other two, including the front wall with the porch, were not replaced yet-- probably needs done in the next couple years. Who does good work? Who should we stay away from?

Tldr: porch needs foundation repair, maybe two walls of home too. Any recommendations for Akron contractors?

Unclaimed funds

Has anyone filed for unclaimed funds since it was announced that the new stadium was going to be funded from that account? How long did it take for you to get your funds if so? The website says it could take up to 120 days or more. I submitted my claim and supporting docs in March.

Looking for some fellow metal heads to jam with

Metal drummer (don't smoke, drink, or do drugs) looking for some like minded people to jam with. I run an ekit, but have a 550watt speaker for it, so volume isn't an issue. Not looking for anything serious, but I miss playing with people. I can play quite a bit of different stuff (within limits, ofc lol), and have recently been working on more extreme metal skills. The bands I'm enjoying playing right now are Slipknot, Rivers of Nihil, Orbit Culture, and other heavier bands/songs with fast double bass. Also like playing slower stuff, and can catch on to anything quickly. Architects, Imminence, Spiritbox, Vana, ASAVA, and Fit For A King have been some of my favorites lately, but that changes by the day sometimes lol hit me up if you wanna jam and just rock the hell out.

Oh, also, I live in an apartment and can't practice with other people here. I'm walking a thin line with the downstairs neighbors as it is šŸ˜†

First Energy Job Offer and Relocation

Hello,

I work in the utility industry (on the corporate side) and recently received a job offer from First Energy for a Program Manager position at their HQ location in Fairlawn. The total compensation and relocation benefits look great, but the reviews of the company seem very concerning.

I cannot tell if this is backlash from the company's recent RTO mandate (understandable) or a systemic and cultural problem with the company. Before accepting and moving over 2000 miles to the area I was hoping someone could shed some light on the company right now? Most concerns seem to stem from work-life-balance and staffing issues as of late (both things I don't have to worry about at my current company.)

Thanks for any help!

hello, earlier this year my cat mocha went missing, and i haven't had any luck finding her. long story short, she was put in temporary foster care when i was dealing with some housing issues, and i had to move to my hometown a couple states away before i could retrieve her. i stayed in contact with the foster so we could have her sent back to me, but he was then arrested, and i haven't been able to contact him or anyone who might know him to get her back since. if anyone spots her please dm me and i can give you more details/contact information, i'm not sure what all is allowed to be posted publicly. last i knew she was staying in tallmadge near the newell factory

i'm not 100% sure what her breed is but she has brown and white fur with pale blue eyes, and a notch on the top of her left ear. she chirps more than she meows, she's very friendly, and she loves forehead scratches and catnip

Does anyone else remember having pizza at Chapel Hill McDonalds in the 90s?

Nobody believes me. I need locals to chime in. I vividly remember having pizza at McDonalds maybe 95 or 96. I’m with my mom right now and she remembers too.

It was discontinued in the late 80s but some locations did hold on to it.

Best priced vet clinics?

My boyfriend is considering bringing in a sweet cat that’s been hanging out around my house recently, but neither of us have brought in a stray before. Does anyone have any recommendations for vet clinics that can do all the general stuff you would need for a stray cat (neuter, shots, etc)? I’m a cat owner already, just have not had a cat before without all the stuff
