Lore “Hey that’s not so bad- SWEET JESUS”

A shot is set up in such a way where it looks fine from one angle, then they reveal another that makes it look way worse

Infinity War - Thanos reveals Nebula hanging up imprisoned, then when the camera follows Gamora going to her we see that mechanical components are stretched out and her head and body are in pieces.

Breaking Bad - Hector sets off a bomb in a murder suicide against Gus but he seems to walk out fine impossibly, then the camera moves to in front of him and you see half of his face is just not there anymore.

In Catch-22, during a mission Yossarian finds Snowden, one of his crew, injured in the back of the plane. He treats his obvious serious leg wound and thinks he's going to be all right...before opening Snowden's jacket and all of his guts spill out over Yossarian.

I like how the flashback to this moment is initially presented in a lighthearted way, but as the film progresses, it gathers more detail and finally turns into a nightmare.

Thats the core of the book over and over and over. The same story in more detail. Natelys whore is another. Its a light hearted night out banter story to begin with

Snowden is the biggest gut punch in a book full of gut punches. He keeps coming up from really early on and you're not sure what happened, and then finally towards the end he gets one of the shortest chapters in the whole book, with nothing to pad out the tragedy.

The book was so good. I am scared to watch the movie (I think they even made a tv series now?) because I am afraid of it ruining it for me.

The movie is actually shockingly good for something so difficult to adapt. Not nearly as good as the book, but very well done as its own thing.

Do NOT watch the show. Its not just a bad adaption, it's completely antithetical to the entire point of the book because they make everything a cause-and-effect of Yossarian's own fault.

And then near the end even Hungry Joe and the cat turns out badly in such an offhand way, and by that point you're just like "Fuck, man, no one catches a single break ever." It's an incredible book.
