Lore “Hey that’s not so bad- SWEET JESUS”

A shot is set up in such a way where it looks fine from one angle, then they reveal another that makes it look way worse

Infinity War - Thanos reveals Nebula hanging up imprisoned, then when the camera follows Gamora going to her we see that mechanical components are stretched out and her head and body are in pieces.

Breaking Bad - Hector sets off a bomb in a murder suicide against Gus but he seems to walk out fine impossibly, then the camera moves to in front of him and you see half of his face is just not there anymore.

At the end of Devilman: Crybaby, Akira and Ryo are laying next to eachother. At a glance, it looks like they are both fine, despite the end of the world.

Akira is completely gone from the waist down, and has been dead for a while.

He actually dies in this scene. You can see the life leaves his eyes and his mouth relax between two shots.

The anime felt like a slow walk toward death. And I mean it as a compliment. I felt so emotionally empty at the end.

Also judging by the looks of things, Ryo isn't doing so well either

agreed; I think what’s so strong about Devilman Crybaby is that it isn’t just a sad ending for the sake of it, but rather it carries a message about trust and faith, and what happens when a paranoid society lets go of those two essential things. it’s a show that tells us “love thy neighbour before it’s too late”

It's also the realistic nature of it. For an anime about Demons trying to take over the world its depiction of the total breakdown of society is chillingly real. To the point you can look around in real life and see some of the same warning signs.

I will always love when someone mentions Crybaby in here. One of my favorite media ever made.

I'm not very familiar with the Devilman franchise but my impression of it is that it's basically a bunch of series telling a really depressing story about the world ending over and over again

I only ever seen Crybaby, but I think that's fairly accurate. It is also really amazing.
