Linguistics/History Matanda sa Dugo practice
This is more of a culturally Tagalog thing rather than a linguistic concept but do you / did your elders hold the concept of âMatanda sa Dugoâ?
This is where you call all your cousins who are the children of an older sibling of your parent as âateâ or âkuya.
For example, I would have to call my newborn cousin âkuyaâ because his dad is older than my dad, even though I am older than him.
This is a known practice in Batangas, parts of Laguna, and Quezon (up to Infanta apparently) but I want to know where else this belief is held in Katagalugan. This could also be something that isnât exclusively Tagalog as well.
