He already had a failed marriage with another woman, he doesnt want another one so he's holding onto this woman with a deathgrip. Its the only explanation that makes sense to me.

Its different when you're married, have a familiy, and a family brand image(He makes billion dollar disney movies now) vs when he was a young/rising star. He even propped up his kids' career with his fame. Only for it to result in another failed marriage? Nah, he already sunk too much into this relationship for him to let it go.
