Ah yes the mythical billionaires that emerge from the aether and shit out an iphone. Do you know the amount of mathematics, scientists and societal advances were needed for any of that? The literal roads that paved the way for that good to even get to you? What is even the argument here?
Scientists and mathematicians are all very necessary. The issue is they cannot magically poop out large-scale industries and mass production. It simply amazes me how some people think a bunch of random scientists, engineers, or whoever would pop out of nowhere by themselves and make things happen. No evil corporation needed, as it's just a tool for workforce exploitation.
People like Norman Ernest Borlaug literally saved billions from starving with his contributions to food production, and so did many other scientists that society often forgets. It takes a special kind of egomaniacal person to believe they deserve to extract so much from others work, scientist like norman know they only got so far because they stood on the shoulders of giants. So they share the wealth and don't become billionaires, yet billions prosper and live, Ill take that kind of society any day of the week over billionaires who pull up the ladder behind them and shoot down anyone encroaching on their massive hoard.
I would argue billionaires and soon to be trillionaires are the opposite of a functional society when contrasted with the level ofinequity on the other side. The climate collapse alone and it's true costs will erase whatever illusion in accelerated development and limitless growth you say was an advantage.

Anyone agreeing with this should do a quick inventory of what they own and see how much of it was made by a company headed by a billionaire.
Also, I have clean water, healthy food, and forests.
