Humanity does something cool: 🤯🤩

Humanity does something cool, but its elon musks company: šŸ¤¬šŸ˜’

seriously, can people not just appreciate the engineering that went into this for a second without defaulting to "elons company did it so it must be bad/worthless?"

41

u/hotwheelearl 4d ago

It’s a similar mentality to

Place: 😐

Place, Japan: 🤩

5

u/Keltharious 4d ago

Japan is amazing though. I love the innovations that Tesla has achieved as well.

Anyone that acts like this isn't amazing doesn't understand a literal vehicle was in the air and flew down with little mini jets and landed safely. That's.... Not something any average idiot could achieve.

1

u/_okbrb 4d ago

Except the KSP community (average idiots) did it 100 times yesterday for fun

5

u/Keltharious 4d ago

I'm meaning in the literal *watch it with your eyes in real life* sense. Also, that game wasn't designed by the players. They're just enjoying the fruits of the labor of some actual high IQ people that helped design that game with realistic physics.

1

u/_okbrb 4d ago

What? Tesla and SpaceX engineers didnt design the laws of physics, either

1

u/Keltharious 3d ago

Huh? That's not the correlation I made.

1

u/_okbrb 3d ago

That’s exactly what you said? Your objection was ā€œthat game wasn’t designed by the playersā€

I’m just not sure why that’s relevant given all engineers are operating under those conditions

1

u/PrismaticSpire 4d ago

The Japan-glazing on Reddit is crazy.

1

u/snozzberrypatch 4d ago

There are places in Japan that exist elsewhere too?

11

u/-Lynxia- 4d ago

People have been appreciating this engineering for decades.

It's just that people appreciate it more when it's practical/applicable, something actually new, and isn't being pitched by a pedophilic sociopath.

2

u/nobody2000 4d ago

And to add to this, the roadster demo suggests that like much of Lockheed's business, this really only has a military purpose. Another comment somewhere said "tumbler from the Christopher Nolan Batman series.

Seems apt.

18

u/TheShredder9 4d ago

Of course not, someone i hate did something! /s

I don't have to like Elon (i don't hate him though) to be amazed by everything he does, seeing the first time his rockets came back from space and landed on specific landing pads gave me goosebumps.

6

u/Turbulent_Monk3307 4d ago

he doesn’t do shit
Spacex actively plans on ways to distract him when he comes around so he doesn’t derail their goals

Look at what the cybertruck was going to be before he got nostalgic for N64 wireframes

1

u/The_lewolf 4d ago

Right? ā€œHis rocketsā€. 🤢

Dude has an infinite money glitch. And instead of improving life across the globe, he IS PAYING PEOPLE to invent toys.

2

u/high_mee 4d ago

You should be more impressed for the engineers who made that happen

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Embarrassed-Belt-541 4d ago

That was seriously impressive, yes.Ā

0

u/AntiMatter138 4d ago

His politics sucks, but he is great in technological innovation. This car will be a part of safety features like for example accidentally fallen to the cliff and those thruster can save you.

3

u/shadowkat1991 4d ago

People seem to miss this but Elon likely had little to do with most of the innovation in any of the companies he owns. He did not make Tesla, Space X, or the Boring Company he just owns them. Steve Jobs was more involved with what apple created than what Elon has done. His first all his design was the Cyber truck and that thing was a disaster.

1

u/AntiMatter138 3d ago

Still those engineers won't make anything without the capital provided by Elon. Innovation requires capital and resource like they can't rely on theoretical science. You people... are so insufferable

1

u/shadowkat1991 3d ago

Cool so that makes Elon a bank not some genius.

→ More replies (5)

20

u/Disastrous_Cow_3114 4d ago

People hate it when Elon gets all the credit and treat him as genius. Elons contribution to this was paying someone at best.

9

u/Aggressive-End-7429 4d ago edited 4d ago

I’m fairly certain he was more involved than that, like Steve jobs paying his engineers to build the iPhone.

26

u/Snoo71538 4d ago

Then don’t give him personal credit for inventing something. I don’t know many people who think he’s the guy doing the work, but he is definitely one of the guys making the decisions that make these things happen.

Most CEOs aren’t gonna let a team work on the flying car project that will never be sold to anyone ever. That’s what Elon gets credit for. Letting people spend the money on crazy shit like this. Maybe a piece of real technology come out of letting them tinker on the crazy stuff. Most companies aren’t willing to find out.

0

u/KipSummers 4d ago

Twitter is full of ballwashers and bots that will tell you he’s the savior of humanity

0

u/uptherenorth 4d ago

Its called X, i dont understand why after more than 3 years people still call it Twitter.

3

u/KittyBatHunter 4d ago

Cause most folks dont care how it was rebranded, its still twitter.

2

u/Brunoaraujoespin 4d ago

It’s not twitter cuz it’s rebranded

2

u/Snoo71538 3d ago

If Kleenex changed their name, no one would go along with it either. Some things just are what they are. Twitter is Twitter because they invented Twitter and tweeting. They don’t own the words we use out here in reality. They only choose how they market.

I’m not some marketing persons slave. Are you?

→ More replies (3)

-1

u/YamahaMio 4d ago

That is NOT what most people think, sadly. They think he does it all.

5

u/Fickle-Owl666 4d ago

Absolutely no one thinks Elon himself is inventing these things

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Snoo71538 4d ago

Maybe I’m out of touch, but I said something about people I know.

-2

u/Nyotree-001 4d ago

I don’t think it’s letting people do anything. He demands a flying car and his engineers have to figure out how to make one that’s not letting people work that’s demanding a product to show off.

4

u/Snoo71538 4d ago

Are you under the impression that engineers don’t want to try to make flying cars with company money elsewhere?

Sure, it’s just to show off. Engineers like to show off too! I’m not an automotive or aerospace engineer, but I imagine this is basically the dream project for a lot of them

→ More replies (1)

0

u/Suspicious-Still-999 4d ago

How long do you imagine this car can fly for without a refill/refuel? how long do.you imagine that takes?

This isn't like "hey the tech is new so you can only fly 15 mins, but maybe we can improve!"

This is "you can fly 3-5 seconds only in a heavily choreographed way."

it's not getting close to something.. it's a stunt, and has been done in movies and shit before.

4

u/Snoo71538 4d ago

I believe the statements they’ve put out is something like 5-10 seconds of thrust, and 7-10 hours to refill. I’d also not go anywhere near a 10,000psi tank myself.

Does it being a stunt mean that they didn’t enjoy the process of making it? That they didn’t learn anything?

23

u/Embarrassed-Belt-541 4d ago

and thats fair enough. thats no reason to hate a cool technology

11

u/HotSituation8737 4d ago

I personally think it's impressive, it made me go "huh, cool..." When I saw it. But my hype is also tied to it's utility and honestly I have a hard time imagining any real utility, there doesn't seem to be anything "new" involved with this, just preexisting things made into a car shape.

I'll admit it's cool, but that's about it, and overall feels like a bit of a waste.

3

u/HighlyUnlikely7 4d ago

The utility is that it gets investors excited. There are too many logistical/ safety hazards to ever have this product used outside of highly micromanaged tests. Think about it who outside of an actual licensed pilot would you trust to fly this thing. Not to mention refueling would be insanely expensive. Their might be some small advancements in the technology used to build it that have actual applications but that's it. Tech companies do this all the time. They make a big showy product that the public will hear about for a few months to generate buzz and bring in investment, and then it dissappears because, there's no way they can release it to the public.

2

u/HotSituation8737 4d ago

Yup, cool but ultimately useless.

1

u/Suspicious-Still-999 4d ago

i honestly don't even think it excites investors.

investors know that Tesla is already overvalued, and know this isn't anything the company will ever sell. this is just a (probably borderline illegal) method to signal to buy, and hoping they get less experienced investors to boost the pump.

how many times has he done a grand show for a feature that is not real?

I don’t know if people are hating it so much as just realizing it’s no more than a neat parlor trick. This has no real world application and it doesn’t help that the people hyping it up as the coolest thing that’s ever been done are all conservatives who praise Elon as a mega genius who needs to be worshipped lol.

1

u/Fickle-Owl666 4d ago

You do realize that almost everything that has been invented started as what people would call a "cheap parlor trick," right? Like Tesla was locked and criticized for his work. Many inventors are, as well as their inventions.

You're using "cheap parlor trick" as the scapegoat to hide behind while you're real reasoning is "anything involving Elon is bad."

1

u/leposterofcrap 4d ago

What use do we have for a flying car though?

1

u/TlalocVirgie 4d ago

I'm pretty tired of cool technology.

1

u/No-Nefariousness9330 4d ago

Its cool that they did it, but its still not a good peice of tech for society at large. Tesla guards their repair manuals thoroughly and frankly people just dont refuse like they should.

2

u/Embarrassed-Belt-541 4d ago

That may be true at the moment, but there are many points in history at which people looked at a piece of technology and disliked it, but then it ended up becoming extremely popular and utilised. I'm not saying this is one of them, but it's a bit early to count out the idea of potential flying cars in the futureĀ

Im not saying it doesnt have its possible uses, in fact is perfect for what the grand scheme is. All of Elon's companies really do something that contributes to his obsession with Mars colonization. Flying cars would absolutely function better in low atmosphere/gravity than on earth

If you told someone Steve jobs contribution to the iPhone was paying someone at best they'd rightfully look at you like an idiotĀ

1

u/Consistent-Whole1662 4d ago

Steve Jobs and Wozniack actually made shit though, Elon hasn't done shit other than buy out companies and market them as his own.

1

u/Sofi_Seance 4d ago

What did Steve make?

Steve played the same exact role as Elon

1

u/here-for-information 4d ago

So why don't people say "Elon doesn't deserve the credit the engineers do" instead of "thisn is dumb".

The car flipping was very cool AND very stupid, but humans do all sorts of useless silly things and we still think its cool.

1

u/Ill-Error-9962 4d ago

That’s how companies work. Group effort.

1

u/Gibs679 4d ago

No, it probably started with his stupid idea, because every engineer with half a brain will tell you this feature is completely useless in the real world. Then he walked away until he got to present all his hard work.

1

u/BeigeAnxietyEngine 4d ago

For any idea to come to fruition in any company, the vision starts at the top. Then it trickles down to the people who actually do it. Can Elon build this car himself? Absolutely not. But would the engineers have received this opportunity to build the car had Elon/other exes and the Board agreed on the same vision amd project to move forward with it? That's how everything works. Hating a person is fine. Don't hate the science or art in this case.

1

u/MetricJester 4d ago

Elon as a patron of engineering could be his best role.

1

u/Steve90000 4d ago

What happened? Not long ago, the entirety of Reddit was firmly on Elons penis. All snug between his pubic hairs. Now, the hive mind switched and you obviously had to follow?

1

u/Critical_Winner_2779 4d ago

This is correct, whenever there’s a live announcement/showing of something that’s broadcasted, they absolutely should spend 30 minutes to an hour or two going through every single staff members name and role that went into building it. Even if there were several thousands of staff members involved in the creation of the product.

That way Elon gets absolutely no credit.

1

u/HiFiMarine 4d ago

Elon is letting his engineers do crazy things! It’s this level of leadership that is missing in every other company and why Tesla has been able to do everything they have. It’s way more than writing a check.

1

u/thalefteye 4d ago

Yeah but sadly it’s thanks to people like him that this kind of stuff is happening. Engineers that work in Space X have said the same thing, he is pushing space exploration faster than anyone else to where it resulted in other countries advancing their space programs as well. I believe China and Japan are behind space x when it comes to reuse able rockets. Germany or Norway are testing advanced one time use but very cheap compared to NASA’s expensive one time use technology.

1

u/AnyVegetable2619 4d ago

Isn't this just American history in general? Just throw a huge amount of money at people to come to your country and make stuff for you and then say how great America is.

So technically Elon is the most American huh

1

u/anonstarcity 4d ago

Exactly. But even then I dislike the generalized Elon hate because it’s discrediting the hard and talented work of all the engineers under him even more. It’s ok to say ā€œthat is so cool! And I’m sure Elon had nothing to do with it and is slapping his name on it anyways because he’s kind of a turd!ā€

1

u/jorsiem 4d ago

That's perhaps the most important contribution

1

u/Buccaneers1995 4d ago

Great. But who was accumulating the right people who know how to build it to build it?

If he didnt know shit or deserve any semblance of credit, why wasnt this done by people who knew how to do it prior to him getting them to do it?

What ever it is, even if its just constructing the proper crew to figure it out, nobody else was able to do that before... None of those individuals did it themselves or came collectively to create it without Musk.

Cant believe im defending this guy right now...

1

u/ASGreebling 4d ago

Were you as smart as Elon, and invested early in Tesla?

No????????

1

u/Meandering_Cabbage 4d ago

I mean yeah. That's huge. The talent always existed but Elon produced an organization that delivers stuff like this. We can both not listen to his ketamine inspired rants and acknowledge the man is at the center of quite a few modern tech marvels.

Great firms (governments) don't just exist. It takes work.

1

u/Ok-Trip-9679 2d ago

Not glazing musk here. But if he didnt pay for it. It wouldnt have happened, the engineers arent funding it themselves

1

u/Happpie 4d ago

Elon throwing clumps of money at smart people to make cool shit happen is more than most of us will ever contribute to any type of RnD though

0

u/xAuntRhodyx 4d ago edited 4d ago

Such a tired bot argument. Elon is doing more than anyone else. I guarantee he had more to do with it than people think. But lets say he didnt, then it is still selective outrage when you compare it to 99% of the products people drool over and their respective companies. Every chance they get, people try to spread hate. It's things like this car and Elon, that help make the US better than any other nation. They wait for the US to do the "thing", hate on every step before hand, while coattailing it from behind the saftey glass the US put up. With all that aside, this obv isnt going to be for the average consumer. It was never about that. Especially, at this stage. You dont have to give Elon himself the credit for building it. However, he still deserves credit for making it happen. Its a cool thing that may or may not have impacts for future developments. No one is Tony Stark. Even if someone was, life aint a movie. It wouldnt just be Tony working on it. Hell, even Tony doesnt make everything himself and he is a super hero.

that doesnt take away from the cool factor of it. no one is saying this is new technology, but its still impressive

1

u/TheJackHamlet 4d ago

The foundational technology behind the modern Tesla Roadster stunt began in 1970 when racing engineer Jim Hall introduced the Chaparral 2J race car, which successfully pioneered a sealed-underbody suction system powered by dual mechanical fans. This design generated intense downforce to grip track surfaces before the technology was banned from professional motorsport.

Nearly a decade later, in October 1979, stuntman Kenny Powers attempted a massive, rocket-powered car launch across the St. Lawrence River using a modified Lincoln Continental equipped with twin hydrogen-peroxide chemical rockets producing 11,000 pounds of thrust. Because that vehicle lacked any onboard stabilization computers or guidance systems, it functioned like an unguided ballistic missile, immediately losing structural control and disintegrating mid-air under massive aerodynamic pressures.

On November 16, 2017, Elon Musk announced the second-generation Tesla Roadster concept with an optional "SpaceX Package" featuring small cold-gas rocket thrusters. Following nearly a decade of development delays, Tesla and SpaceX conducted a live, autonomous demonstration of the production-intent prototype on October 15, 2026, at a rocket test facility in McGregor, Texas.

The 2026 demonstration succeeded where historical attempts failed by combining both historical concepts through advanced closed-loop automation. The unmanned prototype first used a specialized underbody suction system to generate over two Gs of downforce, allowing it to drive up a curved ramp until it reached a 170-degree inverted, upside-down position. Upon launching off the ramp, an internal aerospace flight computer dynamically controlled a matrix of 10 independent cold-gas thruster nozzles fed by ultra-high-pressure compressed air tanks. By executing real-time micro-adjustments, the automated software stabilization system controlled the car's mid-air rotation to complete a horizontal flip. It then safely cleared a 68-foot gap over five parked vehicles—including a Tesla Semi—and fired retro-bursts of air to cushion a 3.2-G impact for a soft landing. While this experimental rocket configuration is slated for limited, invitation-only production starting in 2028, it remains unapproved for public road use.

u/OwlFart4712 4d ago

Company regularly puts some of the most complex machinery into orbit.

Same company propels a car a few feet off the ground and Muskrats loose their mind when people don't find it that impressive.

1

u/Outrageous_Bad_5365 4d ago

It’s definitely cool. It’s just unclear why it needs to exist or what it’ll lead to

1

u/GutherGlazer 4d ago

The issue is the engineering isn’t that incredible. None of it is new technology, they just shoved it in a car (that’s’ not drivable), and it also serves no purpose.

1

u/Sofi_Seance 4d ago

They literally can't, which is why they get called people with a certain derangement syndromeĀ

1

because this isn’t that cool and is a massive waste of time and resources that could be directed towards more beneficial things.

1

u/juntareich 4d ago

Why do you assume it has anything to do with Musk? It’s neat engineering but an absolute waste of time and money and energy, when we have actual problems to deal with. It’s a rich man’s play toy with zero societal benefit.

1

u/_okbrb 4d ago

This is a very unoriginal critique you’re parroting and it’s supposed to suggest that people are deranged against him. However one might note that a) SpaceX fans are blindly worshipful and b) not everything they think is cool is universally awesome and c) it’s reasonable to be dismissive and not taken in by a publicity stunt and d) you all only say that when you’re impressed by a publicity stunt. Clap, baby, clap

1

u/Scared_Ghost 4d ago

I mean idgaf who did it, it IS worthless. So many things actually have benefits to society, this is nothing more than a PR stunt because it will likey never be commercially available to anyone.

Genuine waste of human resources and talent.

1

u/Devilswings5 4d ago

Apparently not, I found the stunt kind of stupid but cool at the same time. Its something that we haven't really seen before and the level of engineering to pull it off is incredible. Glk glk glk glk glk glk glk glk glk

Thats what you sound like describing a trillionaires spending money he stole from you on turning a car into a bomb that can levitate for a few seconds ā€œsomething coolā€.

Especially when that trillionaire has the charisma of syphilis, the brain power of a rock, and the personality of a mustache twirling villain hoping to enslave us all. Also he’s a Nazi collaborating piece of shit.

ā€œWow, Elon invented (which means Elon underpaid and overworked real talent to make something he claimed he invented) a bomb you can drive so you can explode into a fine mist in low speed collisions! But it’s totally worth it, think of all the time you’ll save jumping from all the half pipe hoops the USA has set up all over the country!.ā€

The man actively steals from you, pours money into candidates who want to see you enslaved (if you’re white, any other color and get out), and you just can’t stop describing how much you like the taste of his cock.

Sad.

It lacks any near future practicality to it, it was an expensive fashion show. Nothing was mentioned regarding flight duration, payload or operating costs. Nothing of substance was discussed.

The tech demo was showing stunts not any kind of meaningful road worthiness. A technological demonstration should be evaluated against a practical objective, not just how impressive it looks.

Anything to keep the simpletons entertained and shareholders happy.

u/Corgi_underground 4d ago

Ok now it’s finally time to see the new roadster!

Elon shows off a car thats not even a roadster hopping around on nitrogen compressed to such an ungodly high pressure that Tesla engineers don’t even know how a customer would recharge the tank in practice

None of the tech shown off is new or has any relevance to the things people want a Tesla roadster to actually do. If any other company had done a tech demo like this they’d be laughed off the stage because it has zero relevance to the product they’re trying to sell.

u/snozzberrypatch 4d ago

Regardless of whose company did it, it's still worthless. Sure, it's great engineering (not by Musk personally, of course), but ultimately a waste of some good engineers' time to make a short-lived spectacle designed to briefly pump a company's stock price and inflate a trillionaire's ego.

1

u/StoppableHulk 4d ago

seriously, can people not just appreciate the engineering that went into this for a second without defaulting to "elons company did it so it must be bad/worthless?"

No? Why would we? This is marketing for a guy who is single-handedly funding the Republican party, which is currently led by a pedophile, in the midterm elections, and who just empowered Russia to dramatically increase the violence and bloodshed in the invasion of Ukraine.

1

u/DRSU1993 4d ago

Both can be true and nuance doesn't make you a hypocrite. Yes, the demo was cool and I can respect the engineering that went into it.

However, how many car companies have you heard of that have promised a car to their clients who made reservations, made them wait 9 years, scrapped the car entirely with a new one and made them wait at least another full year?

Was the "Rocket" spec actually presented on stage doing the wall climb and barrel rolls, or was it a stripped out, remotely controlled/programmed mule? I will eat my trousers if that's anywhere near production level.

What about the legality of the fans and thrusters? Will they geofence those features for off road/track use? What about the safety of having two highly compressed 10,000 psi tanks in the car, one of which is right beside the driver where the passenger seat would be?

Musk is someone who has a long history of overpromising and under delivering. I respect the engineers of SpaceX and Tesla, but Musk is just another Steve Jobs. Another narcissistic whiny asshole. Let's not forget he publically called a cave diver conducting a rescue operation a "pedophile", just because he wouldn't accept his poorly designed submarine idea. So he hired a private investigator to dig up dirt on him and they came back with nothing. Then Musk fabricated a BS story about the investigator lying to him and running off with his money.

TLDR; SpaceX and Tesla engineers are cool. Fuck Musk.

1

u/TheAlphaWolf2021 4d ago

Its not necessarily just because its the rich, racist and mildly retarded man's company. The way I see it. That car was not flying. That car, simply braced its fall more than once using momentum to carry it through the air. It also can jump, which I guess can be cool. But labeling it a "Flying Tesla" is false advertising. Thats not even going into the logistics of weather or not putting rocket boosters on a car made for the public is ethical, nor environmentally sound, or if you'd need to fill up the gas tank for the rockets with regular 87 or need to find a damn ROCKET FUEL PUMP! But I digress, its stupid because its not a flying car.

1

u/Substantial-Example4 4d ago

Hmmmm

Maybe because it's a massively subsidized company that's being used to pander to r*tards on the brink of a midterm election?

Not sure if your two neurons can connect that one tho

1

u/trace501 4d ago

I’ve already send large drones doing cool things. This isn’t a car. It’s a computer controlled model.

1

u/WildContribution8311 4d ago

Its been around since 50s and 60s

1

u/F3LyX 4d ago

No. I'd rather have healthcare and liberty.

1

u/TunaOnWytNoCrust 4d ago

Yeah its a neat thing to watch, like a Mr. Beast video or a multi-mile slack line walk.

Ultimately it's just the self landing rocket tech/software duct taped to a car making it illegal for road use. Yeah cool glue the self landing rocket tech to a fucking blue whale too, why not, no one can drive that to work either.

1

u/fennecdore 4d ago

Because it's pretty transparent Musk is doing everything he can to dismantle democracy and he is using those cheap tricks to distract the population away from his nefarious business ?

1

u/Open-Mode4461 4d ago

I don't care who made it. It's just... meh.

1

u/mouse_Jupiter 4d ago

I’ve seen demos before from Elon that were complete bullshit so I suspect this one is too.

1

u/YamahaMio 4d ago

Because it's a stunt. An 'engineering marvel' that was commissioned to make oohs and ahhs on the internet. The engineers that worked on this probably knew already it was never going to be anything but a stunt.

Starship and Falcon weren't stunts. They worked towards a real application and succeeded (well, for Falcon at least for now). People would appreciate that more.

And fuuuuck Elon.

1

u/turbotaco23 4d ago

This demonstration is less innovation and more magic trick.

Should we celebrate David Copperfield for making a helicopter disappear? Did he invent teleportation?

1

u/Smooth-Television119 4d ago

People can, but not on Reddit. I can’t wait for Elon to buy it.

1

u/Alone_Ad8910 4d ago

The answer is a resounding no. There is a large group of people that is akin to a cult at this point. There is no deviating from doctrine. To acknowledge that something adjacent to Elon or Trump or anyone else not on the extreme left is cool, is blasphemy. These people are legitimately very similar to brainwashed cultists. It’s wild to see.

1

u/According-Insect-992 4d ago

It’s not really useful or ā€œcoolā€ though and we’ve had vehicles that could do this for a while. He didn’t invent or engineer shit.

Furthermore, flying cars is some Back to the Future level futurism that ignores the actual needs of mankind right now. We need mass transit and clean energy. Not more polluting personal vehicles that are likely to kill a number of their users. We have plenty of those already. Thanks, leon.

1

u/AccordingNeat3689 4d ago

Ok mechahitler

1

u/Charming-Clue1987 4d ago

It's kinda nifty but still pretty useless.

1

u/Suspicious-Still-999 4d ago

bro this is a stunt. this is not a car anyone would ever buy or could ever buy. this kind of thing has been done before for movie stunts and shit.

there is no new engineering.

1

u/ChalkButter 4d ago

Except it’s not that impressive?

There have been variants and experiments of ā€œflying carsā€ for decades.

All he did was tell his company to make his particular flavor of fever dream into a reality.

1

u/Certain_Bit3809 4d ago

It’s a magic trick. They didnt invent anything here.

1

u/WeeklyPhilosopher346 4d ago

what’s the cool thing

1

u/high_mee 4d ago

They can be cool and useless at the same time. You don’t need to be a Elon hater to come to such conclusion.

1

u/HorzaDonwraith 4d ago

Sure it's cool, but why? Certainly no state would allow such a vehicle onto interstate roads or highways. With the level of morons driving i don't need another that can flying into me.

1

u/Ok-Pea8209 4d ago

I think its because its been done multiple times before, like 5 times at least. And flying cars look cool but they're never useful or practical. Elons just the 6th guy to do it

1

u/BBTZman 4d ago

As soon as you accept that this isnt revolutionary and literally any spacefaring group could have done this with an empty car shell and a tiny thrust tank. It has as much worth as monster truck show. Probably less because musk is a slaver and literal Southafrican Nazi and monster trucks are actually controlled by humans instead of remote controlled sequence of code

1

u/rawkinghorse 4d ago

While you guys are debating whether it's cool or not, useful or not, Elon is working to rig the election for Trump. So - enjoy, Americans!

1

u/Spiritual-Coconut-73 4d ago

Bro its worthless. Tell me which normal car needs to float for a better driving experience. Not to mention you would need dozens of new traffic rules. Its just a toy for the rich like almost anything his company invents

1

u/Turbulent_Monk3307 4d ago

I’m tired of him making the world a shittier place because people buy into his pointless and shiny grifts

Appreciation of the engineering no matter how cool gives him power to push humanity towards further oligarchical structuring

It's decades old technology he paid people to put on a shitty smaller cybertruck gutted to reduce as much weight as possible.

Do you sincerely think this has any real world application?

1

u/DbZbert 4d ago

Garggle garggle gawk gawk

1

u/Acrobatic-Tomato-260 4d ago

You can’t buy it, it will never be for sale. The one sold is not the one shown. Yes billionaire, take my money. Silly simp.

1

u/BertBitterman 4d ago

It's cool, but it comes at a time when many people are suffering and want to see some progress, not a wasteful vanity project from a corrupt trillionaire.

1

u/iiSoySauce 4d ago

It’s cool but like…not that cool. Crazy engineering sure but what does this do for me now? Nothing it quite literally is a worthless piece of tech

1

u/Neijx 4d ago

I remember a time when reddit was gobbling Elon’s schlong because he was ā€œsaving the planet with his cars.ā€ Then he supported Trump and was against his one kid going trans. The entirety of the site shifted against Elon.

It’s been an interesting spectacle.

1

u/PerceptionQueasy3540 4d ago

Its hard to blame them. musk is a complete piece of shit and the idea of giving anything he is associated with any positive attention is unappealing to say the least. Look at how badly he fucked things up in the government with the doge cuts, the massive amounts of money he gave to trump, the nazi crap, etc.... I do give credit to the people that actually engineered this, same as I do, for example, with tesla cars (except for the cyber dumpster) but I'll never buy one as long musk is associated with the company.

1

u/Disastrous_Visit9319 4d ago

I appreciated the engineering when spacex did it, this is just reusing that work on something that looks like a car.

1

u/choconana_supreme 4d ago

It's a cool gimmick, sure.

But the amount of glazing coming from people on the internet slamming this car that's not street legal in our faces when we're just trying to live our lives is so annoying.

Is it cool? Sure.

Is it street legal? No.

Are most people going to be able to buy it? No.

90% of the reason people are telling you guys to fuck off is because you elon ball garglers are so annoying, not the car.

1

u/justjoshingu 4d ago

People dont realize its always these steps that matter.

There was lots of complaints and undercuts of the Wright brothers.Ā

NASA at rhe beginning, in the 70s and really well beyond. Why do things like space or fly when it doesnt help us.Ā

Its cray cray

1

u/Frederf220 4d ago

They can and do. Are you implying otherwise?

1

u/tmzspn 4d ago

Leave Elon alone šŸ˜”Ā

1

u/Busy-Measurement8448 4d ago

It's cool I guess.

But ultimately useless and waste of time and resources.

The smart people working on this could have been working on something actually meaningful.

Oh, and also, fuck Elon Musk.

1

u/messyhairdontcare123 4d ago

I'm not even allowed to ride a bicycle on the side walk, where the fuck would I be allowed to fly?

Reddit: We were supposed to have flying cars and teleporters by now. All we have is 1930s style facism!

Facism: makes flying cars

1

u/VonNeumannsProbe 4d ago

I think it's pretty cool but it's practical value is worthless.

1

u/BuckDanny 4d ago

I love these moments when I see something crazy like this.

Yeah I know this demo isn't to showcase everyday use. It's just a crazy ass idea that some guy had the balls to put into reality.

Even fiction movies didn't dare to put something like this into their movies. Next Bond car will be crazy

3

u/Embarrassed-Belt-541 4d ago

exactly. if it was any other company people in this sub would be obsessing over it

1

u/HeadGuy-RedEyeJedi 4d ago

Is it really so surprising that normal people want nothing to do with an admitted Nazi?

People will rightfully criticize Ford, IBM, etc. for having done business with the Nazis because society as a whole recognizes that propping up the companies of Nazis is counter productive. If you want to wear kneepads for temu Alfred Hugenberg, that's fine... But pretending that people shouldn't have a visceral reaction to a bigot/pedophile is absolutely fucking wild.

1

u/Bojnik434 4d ago

Cause elon is a con arist. That tech existed already before

1

u/Plastic_Pin_4956 4d ago

This is reddit, home if the idiot

0

u/RocknrollClown09 4d ago

I’m not forgiving him for his MAGA election interference for DOGE quid pro quo scheme. Ever.

1

u/twistedlogic5814 4d ago

These are flying cars bro, nobody cares what you think about DOGE or the election

1

u/juntareich 4d ago

You’re kidding right? If I jump over a stream am I a flying person? This is not a flying car. šŸ˜‚Bro

1

u/RocknrollClown09 4d ago

Yeah they do and if you can’t see how they’re related then you need to quit gargling Elon’s balls

u/mest33 4d ago
  1. It has literally no autonomy at all and would loose all its fuel extremely fast, in minutes, while making the actual driving autonomy of the car smaller.
  2. This is a massive gas tank. This is a literal bomb.
