Discussion Guess the year of the yearbook!

Two different yearbooks, both from the same year. First four photos are from a school in Glendale, AZ. Last four photos are from a school in Martinsville, IN. I know this might lean more toward older millennials but still fun.

I'll share the answer later!

Edit: ANSWER IS 1997!

I thought this may have actually BEEN my middle school yearbook for a second and that was 96-98, so yea right on.

u/Harlockarcadia 3h ago

Mine was 97-99 so that was why I assumed 97-98

This was also my guess. 1999 at the latest. 2000 style started to lean way more into Abercrombie and urban streetwear. Bucket hats, crew socks and ankle booties, and straight leg jeans with those very specific black high top sneakers are all very late 90s coded. And hair gel. My god the hair gel on everyone from 2000-2010. Very distinct from the 90s.

I agree, this is definitely 1998.

u/Cosmo_Cloudy 5h ago

I'm going to guess 1993 because this looks extreeemely similar to my mom's high school yearbook from that year

Computers are too good and there are too many of them.

u/Mundane-Camera-538 5h ago

u/Mundane-Camera-538 5h ago

Dang that's wild that your mom was in high school just a little bit before I was and me and you are in the same age group.

I won't reveal quite yet lol

u/bikeguideraz 4h ago

Judging by the air tempos it had to be like 96-98

13

u/MainusEventus 4h ago

Those came out in 1996

19

u/cdvallee 4h ago

I knew the sneakerheads would be in here putting up the dates lol.

2

u/bikeguideraz 4h ago

Yea I remember having the black and white, but couldn't remember if the white/navy came out at the same time

I was 15 in 92. Mom had a late life baby. It's crazy to think she's in her 30s now! I just turned 48!

1

u/No_Athlete_2798 1h ago

I think it’s 1992

2

u/Cosmo_Cloudy 5h ago

Wild! Yea she had me I think somewhere between ages 19-21, I was born in 96, and I think 93 was either her junior senior year. Things looked so different then. Even though I'm on the cusp of being a millennial I was definitely raised as a 90s kid and fondly remember how it all looked. Things are so different now! Thanks for the reply

32, parents graduated in 92, you aren't alone haha

u/PelotonYogi 5h ago

I was thinking 1992 but 1993 works too

u/No_Sympathy_359 4h ago

The pippen airs were mid 90's for sure..

I landed on 98. The first picture is difficult because the ladies on top left scream early 90s, but the guys scream late 90.
The sandals and the gym gave it away as late 90s.
In my opinion.

Fashing in the midwest/southwest lags behind

u/Then-Jacket9012 5h ago

1998 here as well.

u/youngyaboy 5h ago

98 was my first thought also. I’ll extend it 3 years to 2001, the latest. There’s no possible way this is from after 2001.

16

u/snotparty 5h ago

The daisy sandals especially those were a very mid 90s thing

7

u/Imjustcasey 4h ago

That's what I was thinking! The shoes in pic 3 and the bucket hat in pic 4 make me think 97.

9

u/MGSC_1726 5h ago

This is the exact year my mind said

2

u/MurmuringWave 5h ago

Same. this is creepy

u/Clockwork-Armadillo Gen Y 4h ago

With tucked in t-shirts? No way, must be early to mid 90s.

1

u/Weary_Imagination775 1h ago

Exactly. People saying late 90s but I was a freshman in high school in 99 and I feel like this tucked in shirt look was long gone. I would say like 94.

•

u/ChiMara777 7m ago

I agree. I guess the answer is 1997, but I feel like this must have been a more rural area (lots of Indiana clothes) that was “behind the times.”

•

u/resinastral907 5m ago

I said 89

•

u/Mundane-Camera-538 0m ago

I was still doing it around this time lol.
And most guys older than like 25 probably still did

9

u/WorldlyPipe 5h ago

1998 is my guess too

5

u/TheGreatGamer1389 5h ago

Same. Not early 90s cause there is a lack of perms. Late 90s they mostly disappeared.

7

u/PinkLemonUp 5h ago

My first thought!

10

u/FR23Dust 5h ago

I was gonna guess 1999

12

u/Pitiful_Fox5681 5h ago

Not enough baggy pants 😉

4

u/Pitiful_Fox5681 5h ago

This looks like it was from right before my high school years. 1998 feels right.

4

u/billygoatse12 5h ago

That was my first thought too. Im also going with 98

3

u/kimchi_friedrice 5h ago

Throwing in for ‘98 also

2

u/Miserable_Virus_9789 4h ago

Same. As I had those Nike Air sneaks lol

1

u/captainsunshine489 5h ago

my guess as well

1

u/Linzabee 5h ago

That is what I said

1

u/Obtuse-Posterior Older Millennial 5h ago

I agree. They look like my older brothers yearbook not mine. I graduated in 01.

1

u/momdeveloper 5h ago

That was my guess!

1

u/Nat20Life 5h ago

That's my guess too!

1

u/Sendtitpics215 4h ago

1989? Does this make me dumb?

1

u/ezpz314159 3h ago

My guess as well. Just hopping on to see if we'll get the answer

1

u/OfficerMurphy 3h ago

My vote too

1

u/Finiouss 2h ago

Exactly the number I was thinking

1

u/Ali3n_46 1h ago

Ha, i said the same after seeing the flannel short, before looking at the comments.

•

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB Older Millennial 1h ago

I guess the same

•

u/Fickle-River3984 41m ago

This was also my guess

•

u/BabyLuna718 30m ago

That is my guess too!

1

u/splintersmaster 5h ago

Second.

2

u/iamacheeto1 5h ago

I was going to say a bit earlier but the computers make me think late 90s so I also said 98 but 🤷‍♂️

0

u/linguist_turned_SAHM 5h ago

Third. That cheerleading uniform style is very familiar to me….

19

u/DadCelo 1987 Millennial 5h ago

This just screams 1998 to me, 1997 at most.

3

u/thecurvynerd Xennial 5h ago

To me the platforms scream 1996 but maybe that was just because those were out of fashion in my area in 98

2

u/DadCelo 1987 Millennial 5h ago

Yeah, I think anywhere from 96-98 is fair because not THAT much changed.

1

u/thecurvynerd Xennial 4h ago

Yea - esp depending where in the country you were too! I’d be shocked if this was past 98 lol
