I mean, 20- somethings are frequently shocked when I say I'm 40 because they expected me to be much younger, but I think this happens because 20-somethings imagine 40 being much older than it actually is.

Now that I’m in my early 40s I can look back and laugh because my mom seemed old to me when she was my age. Now my mom is in her 60s and I feel like my grandmother seemed so much older when she was at the age my mother is now.

People did actually look older. Its not a relative thing or a style thing...its a sun damage and smoking in public places thing

My parents were 25 and 30 when I was born. When I think about being the same age now that my dad was when I was 12, I have a s existential crisis.

My mom was 19 when I was born. When she was my age she was on her 3rd marriage and had two children graduated from college and in their own places. It’s wild to think about. My grandmother became a grandmother at my age.

This is also correct. Some young people have truly no understanding of age. They think 40 means you’re about to die.

I’m the opposite. I’m 30 and people usually think I’m older. Then again I’ve had pretty much a full head of grey/white hair for 5+ years. Got my first one at 12. I’ve also been married for almost 10 years and have a 4 year old so people just assume I’m older. I can’t say I’m in terrible shape but I’m sure I could look younger if I tried.
