79c tacos, 89c Burritos...

311

u/KaizerVonLoopy 1988 Millennial 29d ago

bro the 99 cent bean burrito especial kept me (well) fed in my late teens.

u/MidgetGordonRamsey 29d ago

99 cent cheesey bean and rice burrito got me through my first year of community college

59

u/lotuskid731 ‘88 Millennial 29d ago

I still love the cheesy bean and rice burrito! But they’re $2.59 now. 😫

26

u/Tsmart 29d ago

Who's your cheesy bean and rice burrito dealer? I can get you them for 1.50 flat

16

u/NeueRedskinWelle 28d ago

gotta get a new worm guy

2

u/Pretzel911 28d ago

I think mine has them at 1.49 or 1.59. Been 6 months though

1

u/SBSnipes Zillennial 28d ago

$1.50 is about what inflation would put it at.

1

u/Lysandren 28d ago

They're still that price at my local tbell too.

1

u/SubArcticTundra 28d ago

Doesn't sound like too much of a ripoff... I'd gladly pay that here in the UK

1

u/lotuskid731 ‘88 Millennial 28d ago

Cheers for perspective! I live in one of the most expensive places in the USA, I’ll take whatever cheesy goodness I can get I suppose

1

u/SubArcticTundra 28d ago

What is the price of a burrito over where you live? Because here they'd be like £6-8, so like $10

1

u/lotuskid731 ‘88 Millennial 28d ago

Fancy burrito supremes are about $8, so similar to yours. Cheap end has my beloved bean burrito at, $1.79 I believe, so about £1.50 or so.

But heaven forbid you stray from the value menu, because a quesadilla or something specialty is where their money is made. 😪

0

u/OnlyReporter4524 28d ago

They're only $2.00 where I'm at

11

u/natatatismycat 29d ago

vegetarian's delight.

2

u/Joulmaster 28d ago

they are still pretty cheap. Make them supreme and have them grill it like grilled stuffed burritos and you can be coma full with like 3 of um.

Footlocker job at the mall

u/M1sfit_Jammer 29d ago

I was fancy and got the 1.29 beefy five layers... those hit differently after a long day... now it's like $6 each, oh well, guess I'll just keep my dollary-doos

18

u/KaizerVonLoopy 1988 Millennial 29d ago

A bean burrito and a cheesy gordita crunch cost me $15 recently. I think I'm probably never going back even though TB is one of my favorite guilty pleasures and comfort foods.

20

u/M1sfit_Jammer 29d ago

Oh I'll be back... just maybe once or twice a year... $15 is a burger and fries at most sit down places and I can order that to-go.

My local chinese joint serves up 2lbs of lo mein for $15, add meat $2.

3

u/DaedalusHydron 29d ago

thankfully you can make gordita crunches at home pretty easily. Particularly with those shell packs that have half soft and half hard. You just need to melt the soft shell to the hard shell with cheese as glue. I think my gf bakes it to get them stuck together?

Taco Bell even sells their sauces and spices in stores now

3

u/WtotheSLAM 28d ago

The Luxe box is the only economical way to get Taco Bell these days

1

u/Elegant_Ad_8896 28d ago

Taco Bell has gotten so stupidly expensive though.

0

u/Pad_TyTy Older Millennial 29d ago

But the price is right there on the menu. That's on you

-2

u/snakeinahouseofcats 28d ago edited 28d ago

Skill issue. Get the app and get the $7 box
edit downvoted for the truth ofc😂 The box includes a CGC, bean burrito, taco, and drink for $7.

9

u/Powerlevel-9000 29d ago

Those started out at .89. And they were bigger too. Or at least stuffed fuller.

1

u/eighty4prcnt 28d ago

That was my jam in late highschool and CC. I could get 2 5 layers, fiesta potatoes, and cinnamon twists for under 5$. That's two meals or one if I got really, really high. Most times I went, I was really really high. Overpriced street "loud" and TB were good times

1

u/buccaschlitz 28d ago

The worst tragedy of all. They started at 89¢. I could scrounge up $2.25 and have a beefy 5 layer and an Arizona at the nearest 7-11.

Perfect dinner

0

u/tapefactoryslave 29d ago

And theyre fucking gross now

10

u/heptyne 29d ago

Those Bean Burritos and $5 Footlongs got me through some hard times.

1

u/Realistic-Event-4946 28d ago

Don't forget your Subway stamp card too

1

u/Com4734 Millennial 28d ago

🎶 Five. Five dollar. Five dollar footlooooooong 🎵

6

u/coryhill66 28d ago

I went to college counting out change to buy two tacos. I even started dating the manager so I could get a free soda.

1

u/KaizerVonLoopy 1988 Millennial 28d ago

That's like sleeping with your drug dealer for getting a few weed crumbs lol.

7

u/MasterRanger7494 29d ago

I remember when Big Macs were $ .99. My mom bought a rewards card from the high school foot all team so you could buy one get one. It was 30ish years ago.

2

u/selipso 29d ago

Now it’s $1.30

2

u/Skuzzle_bug 28d ago

Burrito and a cup of ice water for dinner kept me going through my first job. That water was likely leaded but damn it was fresh

1

u/microwavable_rat 28d ago

Wendy's chili and Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers got me through college along with Jack in the Box tacos.

1

u/tex1088 28d ago

RIP to that monster. Ordered it from my local TB for a year after it was discontinued.

1

u/KaizerVonLoopy 1988 Millennial 28d ago

$0.99 Chicken Quesadillas 😭😭

9

u/VolumeOn30 29d ago

Two mini shredded chicken quesadillas and a bean and cheese burrito was $3.24. Used to get that all the time on my way to my retail job back in the day 🥲

3

u/iamseandavid10 29d ago

I wish we knew the good days when we were in them

19

u/Putzinator 1992 29d ago

I had a buddy who would buy an 89 cent burrito, they added 7c of tax, and he kept the 4c of change every single day. 24 days later and he had a free burrito... Much simpler times.

6

u/WtotheSLAM 28d ago

That’s not how free works

2

u/Bucs187 25d ago

Yes it does when you apply girl math

When I was in highschool people would stuff those in their pockets and just snack on 'em throughout the afternoon

1

u/Maniac227 24d ago

Got me through college when my truck broke down :)

Taco flavored kisses for my Beeen!

The Half Pound Beef & Potato Burrito from Taco Bell ™️ was both delicious and affordable. I have woken people in the drive-thru at 2:30am more times than I care to admit.

5

u/DoggieDMB 29d ago

4 spicy chicken burritos for 4:20... God damnit I miss the spicy chicken so much. Used to work Tbell and you could make some bomb ass quesadillas with that stuff

3

u/csim8888 29d ago

3 chicken burritos and 2 sides of lava sauce were the TB glory days!

5

u/joshdoereddit Millennial 28d ago

Bro, the way the price on the beefy 5-layer just kept creeping up was salt in a wound.

2

u/NerdTalkDan 29d ago

10 for 10 at Taco Bell man. What a time to be alive

4

u/boring-unicorn 28d ago

2 for 99c fried apple pies :(

1

u/2livecrewnecktshirt 28d ago

Has Bronson used to be 2 for $1, now they're like $2 each. For a freaking hash brown.

I see your 79c taco and raise you a 29c McDonald's hamburger.

1

u/TheInevitableLuigi 28d ago

I will see your 29c McDonald's hamburger and raise you 39c cheeseburgers and bucket of fries (basically a supersized soda cup full of fries) for $1.99.

With free refills on our 99c sodas, 3 high school-aged kids could feast for less than $20.

2

u/l3ane 28d ago

A whole damn dollar menu at Wendy's with like 10 items

1

u/SillyPseudonym 29d ago

"59, 79, 99 cents each! Taste so big! Price so low! So everybody eat....TACOOOOOOOSSS!"

1

u/dumbdude545 29d ago

I miss 2 for a dollar gas station burritos and 1.99 40 ozs.

1

u/Deluxe_Flame 28d ago

5 layer burrito, and it was bigger than it is now for 89c was such a treat for first time car/job owner teens

1

u/BAKEDxCAKE 28d ago

I still think about the beefy 5-layer burrito being 89c

1

u/Bozee3 28d ago

When value meals really means value.

1

u/mythrilcrafter 28d ago

Note that the 1$ McChicken continued into the early 2010's. If you put $1 into an inflation calculator and set it from 2010 to 2026, that should put it to a price of $1.55...

Depending on the area, a McChicken is actually $3.20.

1

u/Granny_Shiftin 28d ago

Me and my friends used to joke that someday we should put down $10 and just say "tacos" when ordering. If we did that, we'd have meals for days. Now, you're lucky to get 3.

1

u/kenttouchthis 28d ago

I remember when our local professional hockey team scored a hat trick, local TBs would sell tacos for $0.39 each. My mom would come home with like 30 to feed the whole family plus leftovers. If we were super lucky we'd go to blockbuster first.

1

u/ImPeeinAndEuropean 28d ago

Anyone master the coin spinning tower game to win food? Once you figure out the trick to the non water filled one, you could feast for $2.00

1

u/aspophilia 28d ago

I still remember 89 cent gas.

25 cent tacos at Del Taco back in 2011

1

u/creamerthegreat 28d ago

We had a COMMERCIAL for it!

"Whats up Stephanie, how yah doin' today, 89 cents is what we're gonna pay. Say hello to Bobby, he's in the back seat. Steph gimme somethin' big. WITH A BUNCHA BEEF! 89 cent Cheesy Double Beef Burrito, why pay more? It's Big and Cheap!"

1

u/sa87 28d ago

I might just be able to afford 55 of them.

1

u/rockmanzerox06 28d ago

89c cheesy double beef burritos……

1

u/T0ruk_makt0 28d ago

99-cent stores were actually true to their name.

1

u/____DEADPOOL_______ 28d ago

Back in my day those tacos were 29c. $20 was enough to have a fantastic day out.

1

u/vanalla 28d ago

I literally can't think of the last time I saw a food item being sold for less than a dollar.

1

u/Double_Resort_9223 28d ago

Two mcgangbangs for $4. Was almost exclusively the sustenance for our band when we used to play shows in our late teens.
