I've rekindled my relationship with commercials after ditching all paid streaming and using free programs like Tubi. I actually don't mind them, i just mute them and scroll Reddit for a few minutes 🙂

Tubi and PlutoTV, my loves. 💕 Just mute the god awful AI commercials. The selection is huge and just wild. I love it.

I like tubi but I started using plutotv to watch twin peaks and it feels like there's 7 ads every 5 minutes

My biggest complaint isn’t even the commercials. It’s that if I watch a movie, IT’S THE SAME 5 COMMERCIALS over & over & over.. by the end of the movie, I’d have the ad memorized if I didn’t mute them.

Ads aren’t creative anymore either, they’re just trying to figure out the most obnoxious thing they can do to get your attention while you play videos in the background while doing something else. It’s disgusting.

What bugs me about those, as opposed to watching movies on TV, is that the ads come up randomly in the middle of scenes or even sentences.  In TV, at least the programmers made sure ads would fit in appropriate places (at least on decent networks like Superstition)

I usually look up fun facts about what I'm currently watching. Or who the actor is that I recognize.

Yeah I think this says more about peoples attention spans or being conditioned to everything being instant. Do they also get angry at the trailers before a movie? Or how much video content are they watching in a day where a handful of ads push you over the edge?

I think this is an advertisement to trick people into watching more advertisements. "Rekindling a relationship with commercials," is some of the most corpo bullshit sentences I've ever read and anyone thinking they had a point is either a bot or should probably get off reddit permanently.

Or how much video content are they watching in a day where a handful of ads push you over the edge?

I use a lot of podcasts, docu series, etc. as background noise for when I'm gardening, cooking, cleaning, etc. I have to use an adblocker because otherwise sometimes you get the annoying 10-20 minute ads and last I wanna do when I wear gloves or have greasy hands from cooking is go touch my phone just to skip an ad.

Fair enough, those 20 minute ads should be banned.

I mean I get annoyed at ads in cinemas these days, trailers were fine and part of the experience but these days you have TV commercials before the trailers about all kinds of bullshit including ads for beer. If I pay for a movie I don't want to sit and watch ads and trailers for half an hour before my movie starts.

On that note, I took my niece (12) and nephew (9) to a movie. They complained because we came too early and had to sit through the trailers...

To be honest...yeah. I don't like waiting 30-45 minutes for the movie to start.

Fun fact! You can call the theater and ask them when the movie will actually start and just show up then. It's quite nice!

Kids and I have this thing where we yell out commercial! Whenever an ad pops up while streaming. They’re honestly curious about the ads and sometimes it leads to interesting conversations other times it’s a pee break time lol
