Just watched an interview where sheās talking about how devastating her brotherās death in 2023 was, because she realized sheād have to live life without him. Thereās a part where she says, āWhen our parents are gone, itās just going to be meā - so fucking heartbreaking that 3 years later, sheās gone as well. Fuck.

My one cousin died abruptly a few years back. His sister had been fighting cancer for years and getting better. After he died she told everyone she couldnāt live without him. She died one week later!

My brother lost the battle to pancreatic cancer in April of 2020. My momās heart was absolutely broken & she only made it to August, then she died too. My heart has never healed.

She had been through so much. I was so excited to hear she was going to be in Scream 6 as it was her first movie in more than five years if I'm not mistaken. She had even posted about the movie and returning to play her character. Then the week the movie premiered (or came out? I can't remember), her brother Jansen unexpectedly passed away.
I hope she and Jansen are at peace and get to see and hug each other again in heaven.

I haven't read it but I've seen a lot of people discussing her memoir (released this year) in the wake of her death and apparently a lot of her life struggles were due to intense stage parents who made poor choices around her becoming a star so young.

I am struggling in much the same way. It sounds so much easier to die at this age than to endure what continues. Iām sorry for her, butā¦I know.
Edit (aka what I really want to say): Thank you, each kind person who has heard my feelings, felt something in response, and chose compassion and kindness when we all know it is easier to choose those bad moods in those moments when our feelings are so big that it is hard to see outside those moments and listen to other human beings who choose love. You know, You. Thank you for being you. I will do my best to be me as long as you do your best to be you.

Also of similar age as her and having an existential crisis with this news. I haven't been this shocked by a celebrity's death since Robin Williams. I also struggle with mental health and it's hard for me to comprehend how she accomplished so much despite her struggles. Like I feel like I don't make any progress despite trying every day.
Anyway, I really enjoyed her work. Gonna have to watch Heroes in her honor.

Out of curiosity - did Chester Benningtonās death hit you as well? That one was super raw and also linked to mental health and previous abuse šš¢
69
u/Dntaskmeimjustagirl Aug 17 '26
I still have days where I am fucked up over Chesterās suicide. CSA is like this rotten seed that gets planted inside you, and no matter how good your life looks from the outside you can feel the darkness clawing at you from within. Mad love to anyone else fighting the good fight. The horrors persist but so do we.

u/MaenadR0se Aug 17 '26
As someone who's experienced a lot of abuse I really find this kind of mentality to be self defeating and disheartening.
It absolutely doesn't have to always claw away at you. Just because something doesn't just disappear doesn't mean it has to leave a nasty scar. It takes a ton of work and effort, there's plenty of bad days, sometimes it feels like things are regressing, but it gets much better.
This idea of it just always being present gnawing away at you and you're doomed just because it happened is terrible and not some inevitability.
People really need to stop talking like going through bad things is some permanent stain and that's just it for you. It pushes people who have already been kicked down further in many cases, and can make wallowing in pain seem like the only choice. This isn't the case.
You can talk about your experience or say something can feel that way etc. not saying you can't, but this talk like it's just the gold standard and hopeless for everyone is problematic and a lot of people feel very comfortable doing it.

I'm a CSA survivor and I agree with this. Of course everyone is different, but I'm fortunate in that it hasn't scarred me to the point that I feel defeated. Again, obviously that's not the case for everyone, (and that's totally understandable) but it can be true for some of us.

I think her mother was somewhat abusive and used Hayden so she became a commodity and not an actual daughter or a child to her mother and that's why they've been estrangedĀ
Her mother has a lot to do with all the issues she had

u/Client_020 Millennial Aug 17 '26
Parents who put their kid in 50 ads before 5 cannot be trusted. Whenever I read something like that, I immediately judge despite not being judgemental in general. Having said that, her parents still lost their last remaining kid and I can't help but feel bad for them.
→ More replies (2)21
u/Significant_Hope7555 Aug 17 '26
Yeah for sure, I actually am pretty judgemental and sceptical about any child star and their parents TBH, a big part of why so many child stars go off the rails is because they never had that foundation at home I'm the first place and then were given away to such a horrific industryĀ
For sure, they lost their remaining child, although what hand they had in her demise is not lost on me and the fact her mother closed the door on a relationship with her because Hayden asked that it just be mother/daughter and no business is very telling, she didn't actually want a daughter, she wanted a productĀ

I tried calling once when I was really in a bad place. The person on the phone was so dismissive and rude, she was really sternly telling me to ājust stop crying!ā and wouldnāt listen to me at all. And kept scolding me.
Iām doing better now, but I would never call them again if I was in a bad way. It made everything 1000x worse. I was just scared and feeling alone, that phone operator made me actually feel like I shouldnāt exist anymore even though I wasnāt at that point when I called. Thankfully I found the strength to call someone I actually knew for help.
I get that burn out happens; but I wonder how many deaths that personās attitude contributed to. She should have never been in that position if she was that nasty and hostile of a person.

I could have sworn that she was in the news maybe 2-3 months ago for releasing a book in which she claimed a well known person in the entertainment industry, who was in his mid-30ās at the time it occurred, had his assistant bring her to his bedroom, saying he was hung like a horse, as he laid naked in the bed?
I believe this happened on a yacht. She didnāt name the guy, but if I remember correctly, she said he was in the music business.
She said she had just turned 18 at the time, and felt completely trapped as she couldnāt just exit the yacht and such.
And now, this. Seems just a trifle suspiciousā¦
ETA:
She was great as Amanda Knox. Thatās the only thing I believe I ever saw her in. I donāt remember the name of the movie or tv show that it was, but she looked a LOT like her in it.
ETA 2:
It was apparently named Ananda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy

Parents who allow/force their children to be working actors really do them a disservice. If your kid loves to perform, sign them up for a community theater program. Thereās no reason to expose them to the ups and downs of auditioning, volatility of the adults on set, or flashing lights of the red carpet. Let kids be kids.

Iāve read sheās had her battle with severe PPD when she first became a mother. I followed her ex/husband since I follow boxing for a long time and found their relationship interesting. Either way, sad to see her go so young since sheās only a couple years older than me and my wife. Very unfortunate.

And they still donāt do nearly enough for child stars. Iām heartbroken for her and all those before and after, who werenāt able to experience life outside of the spotlight, from such a vulnerable age. Getting older not only means seeing more death in life, but also having to see people lose themselves over time.

I cannot for the life of me understand why any parent today would want their child to be famous after seeing what happens to almost every child actor.

Child stars usually have shitty parents. Typically theyāre more interested in making money off of their child than protecting them.

Yea her parents sound like they contributed to this result. People who harm children are the lowest level of life. But people who profit from it are somehow far worse.

š„ŗš„ŗššš The is heartbreaking. Iāve watched her work as weāve aged as Iām a year younger than her. I know she had some struggles and especially dealing with the loss of her brother. I hope she finds peace. And prayers for her daughter.

AP News just broke it for me, no mames! I know she was struggling with depression, but she just launched her book! She looked like she was recovering. I just passed through her IG account as a recommendation. Plenty of our celebrities from our youths are passing in these already tragic times. This year is getting worse and worse.
May she finally find peace through decades of insanity. I feel for her family for going through so much tragedy with the loss of her and her brother. I really do.

Holy shit RIP. Can't imagine the struggles of being a child actor. Hopefully it's not related....

This reminds me a lot of Daviegh Chase. Who died exactly two months ago on June 16th, 2026.
