Someone in the comments said, "before AI we had BS".

AI is arguably the new version of BS, but now it doesn't make you come up with anything.

Singlehandedly killing mankind's creativity.

The best innovations always start out with some BS.

You’re right to push back in that, I was totally out of line. What I should have done was exactly what you asked. Let me know if you’d like to continue this conversation later.

Accepted. We can continue whenever you’re ready.

And how often has that learned ability to BS gotten you by in real life??

No wonder these new kids can’t talk on the phone or just stare at you from behind the counter when you ask where aisle 22 is

No thought behind the eyes anymore. The thinking has been farmed out to machines

let me google that so see if it’s true…

They did this even before they had access to AI

yeah the dead empty stare is a product of being raised on smart phones/social media, not AI in particular.

It's sad that today's kids don't get to experience the glorious flow state of completely winging it right before the paper is due in.

"I asked ChatGPT to summarize the book for me!"

My dude, there is a free website for that and it was authored by humans with eyes and brains who actually read the book.

Right? Like, I'll bang out a 5-page paper in front of you right now. Give me a topic, any topic!

u/imsaneinthebrain Aug 10 '26

My BS wasn't TOTAL BS. I didn't usually read the material, but I would read a few summaries. Cliff notes were a frequently-visited resource.

Back in those days, using Wikipedia for a launching point on a project felt like cheating. Usually great info, and all the source material linked on the same page.
