I have bought many macOS apps. I have regretted buying lifetime versions of many apps which I don’t use now. Like istats menu which I never regretted buying and I am still using.

What’s the best app your have bought for your Mac?

I switched to Mac OS for work about 3 months or so ago and I have been extremely pleased with it. Definitely my favorite OS to work on and I've just discovered this Stationery pad feature, which when enabled, allows you to create a reusable template that will force you to save the file as a different name, eliminating the need for using Save As.

I run a business selling stuff online and everything I sell goes on an order form that the customer has to sign. Sometimes I accidentally save the master file when I mean to use Save As, which means that the next time I go to use the master file, I have to sit there and backspace, which is quite annoying.

Recently I switched to using PDF Expert instead of Preview for editing PDFs and I realized that every time I would try to Save As, it would overwrite the master file anyway (that was annoying to deal with), but I've realized this function exists within Mac OS and immediately set 3 different files I use often (2 order forms and my quote template) to be stationery pads.

Fun fact: stationary and stationery are different words, stationary means staying in place, stationery typically refers to office supplies like envelopes and paper. Apple chose "stationery" because it's supposed to be like tearing off a fresh piece of paper from a paper pad.

Edit - Not sure how many of you guys use Word, but this doesn't work for Word files, you need to use the Word template file format which is .dotx instead of .docx.

To Achieve This:

defaults write com.apple.finder QLInlinePreviewMinimumSupportedSize -int 512

killall Finder

To Undo This:

defaults delete com.apple.finder QLInlinePreviewMinimumSupportedSize

killall Finder

It's my daily driver and my control plane for all my projects (and I have a LOT)... all on 8GB of RAM - give me a good reason to upgrade? Thanks.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard (2009).

The 3D Dock, Aqua interface, classic Finder, and that iconic space wallpaper.

No Liquid Glass, no endless redesigns. Just an OS that felt polished and had its own personality.

It's crazy how something from 17 years ago can still look this good.

Was Snow Leopard genuinely peak Mac OS X, or are we all just blinded by nostalgia?

Over the past week or so, YouTube has been working really poorly in Safari for me. Videos take forever to load, and sometimes I get an error saying I’m offline. I have to click “Retry” to get the video to load.

This only happens in Safari. If I open YouTube in Chrome, everything works normally.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this a recent Safari issue, or could Google be deliberately making YouTube work worse in other browsers to push people toward Chrome?

I’m just trying to add a shortcut and get some guidance on it. Anyone else?

MacBook M1 Pro 16" 32GB and the new Siri Ai has done nothing but slow down regular tasks that would've been quicker without trying to use it. I actually really dig the idea of local ai on Macs so that we use data centers less, so I am really hoping this gets fixed asap. Its so frustrating!

Recently my Mac storage was almost maxed out, with a system data reading at over 200gb. Searching through all posts here and on forums I couldn’t find a solution that worked.
Finally I found this fix. Photos app created a file called mediaanalysisd that sometimes can have a fault and grow abnormally large. Deleting it does change any data in photos and the photos app will rebuild the file at a much smaller size.
If you have this issue please try this procedure.

~/Library/Containers/ com.apple.mediaanalysisd
mediaanalysisd is macOS's generated photo/video analysis index used for faces, objects, memories, and visual search. 164 GB is abnormal, and this data can be rebuilt without deleting her Photos library.
Do this:
1. Quit Photos.
2. In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder.
3. Paste:
~/Library/Containers/
4. Find com.apple.mediaanalysisd.
5. Move that one folder to Trash.
6. Empty Trash.
7. Restart the Mac.
If Finder says the folder is in use, run:
killall mediaanalysisd
Then immediately move the folder to Trash again.

Hey, I recently acquired a 13’ Mid-2014 MacBook Pro from my sister, who apparently tried to upgrade it using OPCLP in the past. The result is that for some reason reason this 13 inch laptop thinks it’s a 15 inch and has resolution to match, and no matter how many times I’ve deleted and reinstalled its operating system I’ve had no luck. I’m pretty sure that the system image was altered in some way.

And of course, the only other example I’ve found of this happened was 13 years ago, and that got resolved via apple Warrenty.

I feel like I am losing my mind...didn't there use to be a way to swipe on the touch pad to show all windows of all programs at once? I am on 15.7.7 and I cannot get it to work.

I want to add the portrait mode effect to some of my photos. The issue is, apple photos isn’t giving the option on select photos. I was wondering if there were any photo editors that easily add that effect, ideally a few clicks/options. I’m open really to anything—command line, GUI, vibe coded—anything. My skills in photo editors just aren’t good at this moment, and I’d like to add the effect soon. I know this a big ask, but any assistance would be appreciated.

No meu MacBook, a opção não existe, mesmo com o driver oficial da Epson. A solução alternativa de páginas pares/ímpares funciona, mas eu continuo bagunçando a ordem.

I am using an 14" M3 Pro with 18 GB of RAM and 500 GB hard drive. Previous 2 versions ran well. When I upgraded to 27.0.1, the following occurs

• Time machine backup keeps hanging at around 33% and now the external drive is not even being recognized by the OS. I can still head the drive clicking.
• The screenshot occasionally hangs on a preview and prevents additional screenshots from clearing
• It feels slower

I am running Docker, VS Code, Device Hub, and a few browser tabs open for web deb. Nothing crazy.

I tried rebooting and no effect. Is there anything else I can do?

Im running a 16gb surface computer from a few years ago at this point. Im pushing it and it's just very handicapped at this point. My concern is if 24gb is going to be enough or will i run into headaches as i start to push it a little more. I want 32gb but I cant find any m4 pro models with them. A little confusing

I have had great success with describing Safari extensions as well as Safari notifications for keeping track of pages I want monitored closely.

When I drag a tab and open it in its own new window there’s this black bar on the left which doesn’t go away. Never happened until updating to 27 🤦‍♂️

Restarted laptop and safari and still happens. Anyone know a fix ?

Many people swear by Sequoia for the M1 Pro but I really find mine flying like never before. And I am not talking about M1 Pro Max but the base model 16 inch M1 Pro.

Some spectacular macOS/iOS calendar bug decided that October 23 is the 23rd birthday for every contact in my address book. Friends, colleagues, random contacts from a decade ago... all celebrating the exact same birthday on the exact same day. 🎂

Either Apple found the fountain of youth, or my Contacts database is very confused.

I'm running into a really frustrating issue and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. I’m currently using a MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro chip and 24GB of RAM, running macOS 27.0.1.

Whenever I watch videos in full screen using the machine's default resolution (1512x982), the mouse pointer gets incredibly laggy and delayed. The stuttering is very noticeable. However, as soon as I change my display resolution to (2048x1330), the problem completely disappears and the pointer becomes perfectly smooth again.

Has anyone else run into this weird mouse lag issue while watching full-screen videos on their M4 Pro? Is there a known fix or is this just a macOS bug?

Ever since i updated to Tahoe, search in a specific folder broke, like for example it would search the entire MacBook but not the folder i wanna find something in, I tried all the solutions from yt but none worked

hey do does anyone know how to fix this? i have a macbook pro m1 pro 14” from 2021, i just got it like a month ago. Ive already tried all the solutions i could find on the internet like making the pointer big and then back to normal, disabling auto brightness or restarting the mac. I also don’t have the ‘dim flashing lights’ enabled on settings so i don’t understand what else i can do. This happens when i put any video or film or anything on full screen mode (netflix on safari, youtube etc) and especially when i press any buttons to adjust volume/brightness, but it still happens when i don’t manually do anything with the screen though, just not that much. It also happens when i pause a netflix show/movie for too long that the title shows up, it starts flickering again. Its really annoying.
