Meta/sub related Images

You ever have that thing where you’re trying to explain something and it would just be so much easier if you could show a picture of it? Well that’s why images are back in the comments! There are still no images allowed in posts but you can put them in comments for on-topic illustrative purposes. If too many people are abusing it with pointless, off topic pictures like selfies and memes, it will get removed again. So y’all can reply to this post with all the nonsense images you want to get it out of your system, okay?

MEGATHREAD Trump Executive Order Discussion

This is the place to talk about anything related to Trump’s Executive Order regarding homelessness. Any posts outside of this thread will be removed. I know that this is stressful and there is a lot of fear and confusion about how this will be implemented and what it will actually mean. Because of that it is really important to keep this a fact based discussion. Posting unsubstantiated assumptions and speculative rumors is not helpful and only causes more confusion.

It’s fine to talk about your opinions and feelings, but they need to be clearly framed as opinions and feelings. Any misinformation or obvious outrage bait will be removed. It’s important to evaluate the trustworthiness of your sources. If it feels like an article is trying to make you feel scared or angry, it may not be the most reliable source.

Most importantly please be civil to each other. You can disagree with someone without resorting to personal attacks or name calling. You can hate someone’s opinion but still be respectful towards the person as a human being. Stay on topic and play nice everyone.

Just Venting Small victories

• Upvotes

So i often have to frequent past this little motel if im camped out far in the woods, way way out. I don't like being around other homeless folk much, most are great, but put something down and things suddenly grow legs.

But in the building they of course have a laundry room, and sometimes the leave the door wide open, and no one is here at night. Ive noticed the owners go home, and have a sign "call if you want a room, we'll come". They must live nearby. Theres even a toilet and sink in here, some electric outlets.

I'm doing laundry tonight.

I hate cold weather

• Upvotes

It's only Oct here in MD but its cold enough at night that I have to bundle up like it's already winter. I'm laying in bed in my tent, head and everything completely under blankets so that my hands wont freeze while typing on my phone. With the shorter days, my solar panel is no longer able to keep my battery bank charged so I'm having to ration my phone use. I'm already contemplating getting into a shelter for the next six months, which I swore that I would not do again.

A week ago I was chilling with only a sheet. I even had a fan going during the day. Why can't it be summer year round!

About to be homeless with five kids near Portland

My husband didn't pay the rent for three months and I didn't know it until we had a court notice on our door. We paid a month of rent last month and stopped court but only for a month. Now we have a court notice saying we have to pay the remaining 5k by the second or be evicted. We barely had the 1900 for rent (our rent has gone up 600 a month in the last five years so we obviously don't have 5k. We don't have extra bills just rent, food, utilities, and such like that so there is nothing to skip to pay rent instead. The point is there is no way to pay the landlord. My husband thinks go fund me or going to court and talking to the judge with nothing to offer is going to help. I think that's useless and not going to help us and I assume when court comes all we are getting is the move out date. What I want to know is then what? I've never been homeless, what do I do? Where do I go? How do I try to get out of being homeless once you are in it? My husband has a job but doesn't make enough to even qualify to rent the apartment we are in now. (we qualified when it was a lot less). I have chronic health conditions and am unable to work, not unwilling, unable. We have bad credit to and no dollars to our name. We have no family and no friends. My kids are 10-16 but the 16 year old is autistic and wouldn't be able to work either. The only eviction help place 211 gave us hasn't taken calls in two months because there is too many people needing help and not enough money to do it. I have absolutely no idea how to prepare for this other than stick our stuff in storage. Then it's all a blank of what do we even do? How do I get information on what to even do? It's going to be winter and cold when the eviction comes. I could use any information on what I do now. Thank you.

Homeless (as deserved)

So yall have see. My other posts. Not asking for pity. Not asking for criticism either.i left my parents house cuz I couldn’t handle the BS anymore. I could no longer endure. The next house I stay at (Vegas) I get kicked out cuz the owner was paranoid that I’m gonna kill everyone in the house. As I leave he asks where I’m going.
Me: Well see sir. Thank you for everything.
Sir: well you gotta have somewhere to go.
Me: yes sir but this isn’t my house.
Sir: there’s a lot of houses here, this may not be yours but there’s a lot.
Me: thank you sir for everything.

My last hope is my dad gives me the Tesla so i can sleep in instead of a shelter. I got some money coming in from Social security soon so that should help when it comes in. Otherwise I gotta bite the bullet.

But for those about to criticize.
I know I deserve it. I asked for this. I refused to count my blessings. But I have hit my breaking point. So let’s just see how resilient I am as a homeless individual. This is the big test.

Need Advice How should I prepare?

Hi, I’m 19, unemployed and I don’t have a car. Due to a myriad of misfortunate, and admittedly poor choices, I’ve found I’ll likely be homeless in a few weeks. I’m staying with grandparents at this time, but due to the fact they live in a 55+ community, I’m not allowed to live with them or they risk eviction. None of my family, close and extended, has space for me and I don’t have any friends so I suspect that soon I won’t have a place to stay.

I’m posting this because I’m scared and I don’t know what to expect when the time comes that my grandparents ask me to leave. I’ll be contacting shelters nearby tomorrow, but I don’t know what will happen after that. How do you get out of homelessness once you’re in it? I don’t have a car and I live in a fairly rural city; I don’t know if or how I’ll be able to get a job. If I can’t, am I just done for? I also have a suitcase of clothes and a laptop, will I have to leave my stuff and just hope it doesn’t get stolen? And if I can’t get into a shelter, are there specific places I’m able to go to or do I just lay down somewhere? Where do I charge my phone (it’s a fairly busted Iphone 11 with a broken charging port that I use a wireless charger for)?

I’m sorry if this reads as ignorance, but I’m honestly speaking entirely out of fear and I would sincerely appreciate a bit of enlightenment so I might not have to go in completely blind.

Rip my spot.

Basically, after getting my spot back, the couple of people came by today. I was chatting with my friend who also lives there, and these two pass by. They seem like they’ve actually kept mostly clean!!!! I’m happy for them.
They go off somewhere else.

Then I hear a heavy machinery thing. It looms closer.

I’m still chatting with my friend, and it gets closer.

Holy fuck! It’s a CAT machine with an extended Boom-arm, that had a huge dual-worm gear stump-grinder looking thing.

And it was “coming right for us.”

I felt like what I am :( a little animal in the woods. My home was destroyed :( I fled the scene. I packed up all my stuff and fled down hill.

They do this periodically but I didn’t know it was today so I was actually in imminent danger of loose rocks from above/falling broken branches falling on me, so I fled.

Looks like I’ll be roaming the circuit (of other spots) for the next month, also because it’s unseasonably dry and warm for the season and I’d best prepare for the winter anyway.

Need Advice Don't know if I should move or stay where I am.

I (25M) I'm currently in Atlanta. For the past week and a few days, temperatures have been dropping because of it being the fall. Since I sleep outside, this has made it even more difficult for me to get some sleep. I went from averaging around 5 to 6 hours of sleep under warmer temperatures to about four for the past week. And considering this is the fall time, I know that it's going to get worse going forward.

I feel like I'm truly at a crossroads here. Right now, Florida seems to be super warm for whatever reason (something to do with being close to the equator I think but I don't know). I could find a way to move down there but honestly there are so many pros and cons to this that I genuinely unsure.

Also, a few weeks ago I was able to set up psychotherapy and a psychiatric evaluation here. My first therapy appointment is set for the 29th which is 10 days away, while my psychiatric screening isn't until the 24th of November. Which is a long wait. A really long wait.

Also, case management is so damn hard to get in georgia. Even for the clinic that I go to, their case workers are pretty flooded with clients right now and it may be a while until I get to talk to anyone.

I don't know. I genuinely don't know. Not looking forward to another cold night, because this absolutely sucks. The original plan was for me to get a Coolworks job but after dozens and dozens of applications I just couldn't find anything that would accept me.

I don't know what to do. I truly don't.

Caught sleeping at my job

So I have been sleeping at my job for sometime but this building is hard to explain it’s a huge art studio warehouse that is a shared space for artist and what or if you need to rent out a studio! My job is inside this warehouse but I’ve been able to sleep in this empty closet for quite some time and I shortly realized my maintenance man has caught on and eventually he did catch me and told me if I was caught on this property again he will have me trespassed which has me super anxious to go to work now and I don’t think he realizes I work there cause I’ve seen him come into my bosses shop all the time to chitchat but idk this just happened literally 10 mins ago and I have no one to talk to about this and it’s embarrassing

Street homeless in the UK

*UK related answers only please. I am not based in the US.

Hi all. I’ve been street homeless for around 3 weeks now and the local council have deemed me non-priority despite me providing evidence of mental and physical health needs.

I am terrified I have been abandoned and I will suffer street homelessness for quite some time. I just need a helping hand to get back on my feet again.

I have been able to apply for UC, I received my first payment 2 weeks ago. I get around £320 a month. There is a local charity that allow people to have breakfast and shower there.

I feel completely hopeless and wondering where the hell do I go from here? If my local council won’t help, I’m looking at potentially moving somewhere “nicer” outside of my hometown. (I’ll have to check how that would work with UC etc)

Has anyone been in the same situation? I have tried to appeal their decision but they said it’s not applicable and if I wanted to appeal I’d have to take it to court?

Back to moving somewhere else, as I’m street homeless I’d rather be anywhere else than my hometown if I have to be on the streets. Is this wise or not?

Which fire do I focus on if there are little fires everywhere in my life?

I’m 33 and I have been homeless sleeping in my car the past year. I had a few nice jobs but none really stuck. I grew up in cps so I have no family outside of my estranged siblings. I’m so broke that my debt isn’t even like really debt. Like I got into a wreck and crashed my new car in 2024, got a cash car and went on with my life. Things were finally working out then the day before my daughter moves in with me I crash my cash car. Then I can’t afford a car note but I can’t afford not to have a car so I have a car note that I’m struggling to pay twice a month. I’m just lost, confused, im scared and most importantly I’m feeling defeated lately. I tried to get jobs while homeless living in my car but I can’t afford to miss one 10hr shift doing DoorDash without my car being shut off. I just really don’t know what to do where to start. I need housing to gain stability but in order to get housing I need income. I’m doing too much and not enough. I’m just going in circles and I have been struggling this way since 2022. I’m in school, which is hard because well I’m living in my car. I pour so much energy into the damn car that I can’t afford anything. Shabana Motors in Houston cuts my car off every other week. And the most I have been behind is 3 days late. I have tried everything to cut my expenses I have let go of my apartment I haven’t bought clothes in years I have 1 pair of shoes, I barely eat but the stress has my cortisol levels through the roof.
What can I do to be able to put my life back in order without defaulting and on my car note? Where can I start when everything is out of order in my life?

It will get better…right?

I have had to temporarily move into my 2012 Toyota camry because one thing lead to another and I could no longer keep up with all the bills and everything my children and I needed to survive. I’m a single mom with 2 kids, I work a full time job, 40 hours a week.. and this still happened. But toward the end of the summer my AC in my car stopped working (motor blower and resistor) but that also means NO heat as well. The cold creeped on me and I knew it was coming but you almost stay in this state of fog and now here I am miserable and it’s 100% my fault. I am layered I have my windshield covered blankets on me but I am absolutely freezing. I have to work a double tomorrow 6a to 7:30p. I am hoping to get the parts tomorrow hopefully in store so I don’t have to order and wait. I have reached out to every single resource in my county and there are truly no housing resources and the ones that do help are out of funds right now and put you on a list. My children are with their dad temporarily while I figure this out and honestly that’s probably been the hardest part of all of this. Is anyone else experiencing being “house less”? I am tired I am mentally, emotionally, and physically drained. I am not sure how this will play out for me but I am unsure of how much more I can do.

New to homelessness So, Im homeless now, Los Angeles

Hello everyone,

This isnt a sad rant or anything, cuz ive been homeless before, but I either had a car or I hd money and knew it wouldnt be long. This time I have neither.

I live in LA now, but I am not a resident. I have no job and no income. What are the next steps? I know that shelters have timelines and many food banks require someone to be a resident and have proof of residence.

I only have a few pairs of clothes, a hygiene kit, my ssn/birthcert. Chargers, phone and wallet. Notebook. Towel.

Also, I am officially broke now, in the negatives as a matter of fact.

Yeah, so for those of you from LA, whats the next step? At this point, I doubt i'll ever get a job, so no slipresistant or steel toes shoes. Clothes will eventually be dirty, no money to wash.

Yeah, this is gonna suck, but I know millions do it, so ot is what it is.

Just Venting I hate having zero freedom

Just a vent but I have no freedom, zero privacy, zero autonomy, my boundaries are basically non-existent, I’m overwhelmed, I’m overstimulated, my safety and shelter is dependent on the people around me which I appreciate and I love them for supporting me but, at the same time they’re speaking on my behalf, reaching out to organizations and sharing my story without my consent. I can’t even complain or wallow about my situation cause then they’re phoning the family members I’m with and telling them “she’s struggling and shutting down” not even my words are private. I’m extremely tempted to just sleep in my car at this point cause I just can’t take having zero say in anything anymore.
I love them all so much and I know they worry but I just can’t do it anymore. I just wanted to study without getting interrupted, sleep in a room without people checking in on me in the middle of the night to make sure I’m okay. I’m stuck, I’m trapped and I fucking hate it.
I know they think they’re helping but it also feels like they don’t think I’m capable of getting myself out of this scenario or like I’m not even trying. I’m doing everything I can, I’ve contacted organizations, reached out to people for help, it just takes times and not every lead works out. Also yes I’m aware that I’m not homeless, I’m in-between homes and hopping from family member to family member.
