General My friend basically got paid to do nothing during his entire internship

• Upvotes

I recently finished an internship at a Big 4 firm, and something that happened to one of my friends still blows my mind.

We both started around the same time, but while I was getting assigned projects and working with different teams, he somehow ended up with pretty much nothing to do.

At first, we thought it was just a slow start. Maybe his manager was busy, or they were still figuring out where to put him.

But then a few weeks went by. Then a month. Still nothing.

He wasn't assigned to any real projects, barely had anyone checking in on him, and didn't really have a team he was working with.

The funniest part was that he'd ask me what I was working on while he was literally just sitting there waiting for someone to give him something to do.

And somehow, this went on for basically the entire internship.

He showed up, got paid, and left. Nobody really seemed to notice that he wasn't doing anything.

Meanwhile, I was juggling deadlines and trying to keep up with everything lol.

I don't even blame him entirely because if nobody's assigning you work or checking in, what are you supposed to do after a certain point?

Just thought it was crazy that a company that puts so much effort into hiring interns could somehow completely forget about one once they actually start.

Anyone else seen something like this happen at their company, or was my friend's situation just ridiculous?

Applications Final Wave For Summer 2027 Internships!!! It's now or NEVER

Summer 2027 applications have been zooming through these past two months.

Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, Nvidia, Apple all of them have been open and have sent out interviews/OA.

If you haven't received anything yet, DO NOT LOOSE HOPE. You still have time to clutch it.

Keep applying, keep the leet grind on, more and more apps. This month has been insane for drops, and there are around 600+ active roles open with active applications. Companies like Uber, LinkedIn, Zillow, Expedia, Northop, Patreon, Workday also just opened up.

Amazon is still open, it opened around 2 weeks ago, so it's still early!

Most of these companies run on a rolling basis so your never late.

So don't be lazy, go to the repo - grab you're refs and go APPLY! Goodluck.

Has anyone heard back from the companies listed above? Whether it’s rejection or interviews please share. I haven’t heard any rejections from these companies but it’s getting later into the season and I’m losing hope on anything big. If anyone has heard anything or knows timelines please share.

General (Accepted Offer) I told my recruiter I would have a class finished after Spring of 2027, but just realized I can't take that class yet

I'm new to this subreddit so I will just get the background out of the way: I'm a college sophomore student studying EE and got an interview for a position that I was interested in. The recruiter that was interviewing me specifically said that they were looking for juniors because of the classes. I told the recruiter I would be taking most of those classes(especially related to power) next semester. A week goes by and I got the offer letter!

Now here's the problem. I just realized I cannot take the power related classes yet because I haven't taken ECA yet. ECA is a prerequisite for like basically every EE class. I feel like part of that acceptance was because I said I was going to take those classes.

I could just be greatly overreacting because this is my first internship and I know they will teach me, but could missing these classes related to the power lead to a bad experience?

Interviews Did I mess up by being too honest?

I had an interview for this company I really like. They asked if I had experience with a software they use. I said no, I don't have hands-on experience, but when I approach new software I watch YouTube tutorials or use Ai to walk me through the steps. I used Power BI as an example of how I learned it. I told my friend and they said I should've lied. So now I don’t know if im cooked 😭

Got an offer to intern @ Deloitte.

Really excited, wondering if anyone has any previous experience with them or advice for me.

Would love to hear any input/advice from anyone.

Offers Is Internship Commute Worth it?

I have an opportunity to intern at a huge asset management company next summer. My role would be Private Wealth Management Summer Intern with opportunities for full time after I graduate. The issue is that their office is 2hrs away (4hrs daily) from me and I can’t relocate during the summer. Also taking into account that I’ve applied to tons of PWM internships and this company is the only one I’ve heard from. Is the commute worth it given how competitive the job market is right now?

Applications Got spring internship after I already applied to Summer positions. How to update recruiters?

I’m in supply chain and already applied to a handful of summer internships with no prior internship experience on my resume. I just secured a spring internship in manufacturing at a very large and reputable company, and I want to make sure my recruiters know. I think it’ll help me out since my resume doesn’t have that many good things on it.

Should I withdraw my applications and redo them, or try to update my resume? Some job portals let you do that. Or should I contact some of my recruiters and let them know about my upcoming internship and how it will help me gain valuable skills I’d love to bring to their company?

Offers Capital One Business Analyst vs. PwC Strategy Consulting Internship — Which is better for breaking into FAANG PM?

I have two Summer 2027 internship offers: Capital One Business Analyst Intern (AIP) and PwC Strategy – Enterprise & Functional Strategy (Management Consulting, Front Office). My ultimate goal is to break into Product Management at FAANG or another top tech company as quickly as possible after graduation. I'm primarily concerned with which internship offers better brand recognition, transferable skills, and exit opportunities into big-tech PM. Which would you choose if you were optimizing specifically for reaching FAANG PM as early as possible, and why?
