Announcement We do not know when the next chapter will be released! Do not ask where it is!

Hola!

I know everyone is waiting for the next chapter to be released so we can continue along with the story, however I would like to remind everyone to wait PATIENTLY until then. Remember that Morikawa was hospitalized earlier this year and yes while he was discharged, he is well within his right to take his time in getting back to work on the series.

Currently it is unknown when the next chapter will be released as Weekly Shonen Magazine hasn’t advertised Hajime No Ippo for the next issue either. Updates will be provided as they come but please do not flood the subreddit with posts asking for the next chapter! They will be removed.

For any further questions, please look to the FAQ or reach out via the modmail.

Gracias.

Fanart HNI Color Wheel

Post image

Had to make a color wheel for a college subject. Decided to do HNI. I tried to correspond the colors to the trunks as much as possible. Kinda messed up with the darker colors, especially Takamura. I had to put a bright white background behind it to even see the drawings, but other than that, it came out alright.

Discussion Why was takamura so brutal during the Gonzales fight.

Post image
246 Upvotes

This is my 3rd re read of the manga and something about the ippo vs Gonzales fact always makes it stand out compared to all the other fights, first the sheer magnitude and weight of the fight in the overall story being a preliminary world title match after all.

I felt that compared to all of ippos fights this is where we see him take on boxing in the most half hearted way he’s boxing solely to see if the coaches boxing can stand up against the world and didn’t even consider thinking to himself boxing because HE wanted to take on the world but that’s not what I want do discuss.

What I really wanna talk about is takamuras overall attitude during and after the fight we all know takamura has a pretty high boxing iq and apart from his usual tomfoolery he’s a pretty trusted source when it comes to fight tactics and the game state during the matches but after this fight he goes on about how kamogawa should never look like that (that being worried over ippos life i assume) but he off all people should have known how half heartedly ippo was taking boxing as a virtual older brother to him and someone whose taken on the world before I think that not expecting this kind of thing to happen and then getting hard pressed when the old man was worrying over ippo is an over sight on his part.

Overall, I think takamura could have done better and played more of a part in ippos preparation to take on the world.

Discussion Do you think Morikawa concluded Martinez vs Sendo before serialization resumes?

Thumbnail gallery
66 Upvotes

Based on the recent five fights:

Takamura vs Dragon concluded at 33 chapters

Mashiba vs Garcia concluded at 12 chapters

Mashiba vs Rosario concluded at 31 chapters

Martinez vs Wally concluded at 18 chapters

Martinez vs Sendo is ongoing, but halted at 20 chapters, with George Morikawa likely having finished six chapters at this point ahead of release, so it probably is 26 chapters at the point of the current story and perhaps he finished a few more manuscripts by the time there are chapter releases weekly eventually after his team decide when to balance his schedule.

If this fight is the conclusion of a character’s arc, is it fair to assume it takes 30ish plus chapters?

Theory Prime Genji Kamogawa is canonically just as fast as the fastest Umamusume Spoiler

Post image
4 Upvotes

TDLR: Genji Kamogawa overcame a massive disadvantage against Ralph Anderson through brutal training, developing iron fists capable of knocking out the much larger, world-ranked boxer in just two punches. Beyond his punching power and incredible durability, Kamogawa demonstrated extraordinary speed by keeping pace with a 1947 passenger train and crossing a boxing ring in under a second, suggesting a starting speed of roughly 16 mph. Combined with his seemingly exceptional stamina and ability to maintain high speeds, Kamogawa could potentially rival the fastest Umamusume introduced in the anime and game, although his true maximum speed remains unknown.

As we've seen in the anime, Hajime no Ippo, when training for his fight against Ralph Anderson after the defeat of his best friend, Ginpachi Nekota, Genji Kamogawa goes under rigorous training in order to prepare himself against the giant of an American who had a 5 weight class difference between the two, not to mention he was far more experienced and had actual training unlike Kamogawa who's only a prize fighter, not to mention that before the was Anderson was ranked 5th in the world, setting in place a tall wall between Anderson and himself to climb. Unlike his friend Nekota, who only lost due to an illegal punch called the "Rabbit Punch" by the previously losing Anderson, Kamogawa lacked the skill, speed, talent, and overall instinct of his friend, with his only weapon being courage, so in order to beat Anderson, Kamogawa trained himself to be able to take out Anderson in just one punch, and to do that he punched an extremely thick log into the side of a hill using only his fists, which gave birth to iron fists that took out Anderson in just two punches, but that's not all, Kamogawa was also seen running along and keeping up with a train that frequently passes through his residence, which we can safely assume given the time and date of these events is a standard passange train from 1947, which was capable of reaching up to 95-110 km/h, or 60 to 70 mph. But that's not all, we know Hajime no Ippo characters are extremely powerful, with Kamogawa in particular being able to cause small explosions with broken fists if he were in our world, possibly being even stronger if his fists weren't broken, but everything about Hajime no Ippo characters from their durability to their strength is insane, including their speed, we've seen Kamogawa cross an entire ring in his fight with Anderson in under a second without any prior acceleration, which considering how big boxing rings in 1947 were and assuming it was a standard professional ring, we can safely assume that Kamogawa's starting speed is around 16 mph, not to mention his insane stamina he could most likely run at top speed for a long time. Compared to the fastest Umamusume, which in their final spurts reach just upwards of 59 by only decimals, Kamogawa has been shown to have the stamina to keep his top speed consistently, though depending on the size of the track, that may change since no one really knows his limits and he never truly got exhausted (minus when he raced Nekota that one time) but with this information it's safe to say that Kamogawa is just as fast as the fastest Umamusume that have been introduced to the game or show so far.

Question How would you rate Miguel Zale as a trainer?

Thumbnail gallery
73 Upvotes

As a Coach, all his fighters had lost in their most prominent fights. As a cornerman, he gave clear assessments and pointers to Ralph Anderson, a sergeant who was formerly a fifth-world-ranked fighter with textbook skills. So he clearly knows more than just searching for talent and not teaching them anything of note. It is not mentioned often, but overall, Zale trained at least six world champion boxers, with Hawk being his sixth. We just don’t know the quality of the fighters he trained beforehand.

Then spotted and scouted Bryan Hawk in the streets of New York, whose innate talent made him a phenom with a ceiling higher than those of Takamura, yet he plateaued once his unorthodox methods failed, since they naturally worked still even if they were figured out against lesser fighters, but it was against a fighter of similar ability. He only refined what he chose to work on, as his prowess and accelerated reflexes as a brawler were good enough to reach a championship belt. So he probably thought don’t fix what ain’t broken.

As a boxer, he did not have the mental fortitude to rely on anything in the lack of effort in preparation, so he just pushed harder the same way he was fighting, which was good thanks to pride, but backfired because at this point Takamura had already handled him at his best and knew what was coming.

Hawk lacked the mentality to train consistently, and the likelihood is he would have walked away from the sport if anyone else had tried to recruit him.

Wally too was a prodigy, where fluently he could execute techniques in his first try without needing to learn of them beforehand, based on what obstacle he comes across. However, Zale instead of focusing on refining what are already first-rate skills accompanied by attributes in agility, reflex, and adaptation that cannot be replicated, kept him prepared by giving him the resources, experience, and preparation such as a camp with the White Fang Team. He fought and sparred world rankers but didn’t apply to him to fight conventionally as it affects certain strengths, like it happened against Ippo at the start of the fight, which are unorthodox. This too might be applied to Hawk; however, he didn’t particularly put the effort to train for extensive periods of time, so there were likely wasted opportunities to build up more basic skills as options to fall back on and a built up strategy.

People always give Kamogawa crap for being a bad corner man, but I feel like Miyata‘a dad is just as worse, though miyata himself also play a part with him being so stubborn with using his dad’s boxing style. I just feel like there should be more discussions with him being like kamogawa

Shitpost Ippo vs Mashiba changes I'd make Spoiler

Post image
11 Upvotes

Ippo vs Mashiba ( in regards to the rookie tournament fight) is one of my favourite fights from the earlier episodes of the og Hajime No Ippo The Fighting anime. Its super easy to digest and has a really nice back and forth with either opponent countering the others strategies. Its super grounded as well for the most part until the second part of the fight where things get a little more "shoneny" for lack of a better term, with Mashiba suddenly finding the strength to magically lift his left again to hit Ippo with a flicker and Ippo using his destroyed right hand over and over with no real consequence long term.

I had some changes I would make to keep the fight a bit more grounded. Keep in mind I loved this fight still and this is not me "fixing" it by redoing it start to finish but rather just some minor changes that keeps the outcome the same in the end.

The first being Mashiba's sudden regaining of his left arm after Ippo had practically smashed it to bits and being able to land a sudden flicker on Ippo into his signature chopping right. I would change this to instead have Mashiba still raising his arm up slowly, straining, but instead of him throwing a flicker out it's a feint. Ippo being still relatively new to boxing would fall for it, stopping his offensive charge to shell up. Then nothing. Ippo knows he fell for it and would try adjusting his guard just in time to block the chopping right but its already too late. It lands and he goes down.

Second change I'd make is Ippo not using his right over and over. Instead taking coach Kamagowas advice and only throwing it when he sees a perfect opening. It adds more stakes, because if Ippo does throw it and Mashiba doesn't stay down he knows Kamagowa would throw in the towel for the sake of protecting his right hand from further injury. That scene of Mashiba crawling and Ippo begging him not to get up after that insane uppercut into a straight would hit way harder knowing that if that didn't do the job Ippo would lose.

These changes are just to keep what was already a very grounded fight well grounded but tell me what ya'll think. And if you made it to the end of this thank you for actually reading this!

Discussion How do you think Team Martinez operates?

Thumbnail gallery
44 Upvotes

Martinez is an old-school fighter right? During his climb up the ranks, he became world champion in the early '80s, whereas the current story takes place in the early 2000s. He has a renowned trainer in Bill Stewart, who has trained seven world champions. Ricardo has been training under him since his youth. We don’t know if his main gym setup is actually the J.C. Boxing Gym, a run down worn gym.

We only know that he normally trains privately and only occasionally he spars publicly for journalists.

He has an extensive team, though the full extent of it remains unknown. His main sparring partner and stablemate is Jose Nargo, a world-ranked fighter under Stewart with a sharp-shooting, slick out-boxer style. His Team is known to request three sparring partners outside their team per training camp from foreign territories as seen with his preparation for Date, McCallum, Wally, and Sendo.

Stewart, despite his assistance in preparation and setting up what he needs, sees himself as being unable to add much to how Ricardo does things as a second during fight, based on his experience and intelligence he likely has come to the same assessment during the fights on the ring.

Financially speaking, Martinez can afford to live in a mansion and has a massive following in his home country. He always leaves no stone unturned. Yet, it wouldn’t be strange if he opted not to train at a high-tech facility as he might train at the J.C. Boxing Gym, given his background, as he comes from a lineage of mountaineer guides and climbed to the top without the same resources. At the same time, he was trained by a prominent American professional boxing coach who be at a better standing than most. So I wondered if he was brought to train in the United States during his climb instead of Bill settling in Mexico at that point.

Unless he already a fighter from the same country as Ricardo. Not sure if it was his father, but not enough detail of the background has been shown yet.

So question is where he likely trains, how he prepares, and team dynamic

Also Quick Question, when Sendo visited Mexico to challenge Gonzalez, coming across to spar Martinez in the J.C. Gym, which weight divisions do you think these fighters were? The one sitting in the canvas wearing headgear and the two exhausted boxers in the bench, seem unusually large to be in similar division as Ricardo and Sendo. Just a Guess, they look like Welterweights.

So I wonder what is his size limit, when it comes to sparring partners. Ippo sparred with Volg and Mashiba quite affectively, being world class fighters. So in current Ippo’s case, up to Lightweight.

What do yall think?

I think that it might end like how Joe Yabuki from Ashita no Joe did. We've seen him go unconscious from fighting Ippo already and he has taken some insane hits, moreso the panels with his grandma also indicates that something horrible will happen

Thoughts?
