in the old greed island arc, bisky tells gon the nen categories he needs to master for his ability, she classifies rock as enhancement, paper as emission and scissors as transmutation
rock being enhancement is pretty self explanatory and so does paper being emission (cuz he wanted it to be long range) but the scissors thing is weird since transmutation only allows you to give nen the properties of another substance that means making nen sharp wouldn't be transmuting nen but enhancing it, as in enhancing the sharpness of nen, the only other way i can think of is making his nen super hot but considering killua had to electrocute himself to make his abilities, gon would have to scorch or burn himself, which we never see him do, you could argue that he could've gotten burned as a kid and maybe channeled that feeling but i dont think thats enough, what do y'all think
edit: after reading the comments, i was wrong about the enhancement thing, that was a misconception, but some of you (if not all) are saying "sharp" is an attribute/property, it is generally, but it doesnt fit the criteria for transmutation, something being sharp isnt a physical property or value something being sharp depends on the shape of its edge,
i was also wrong about the bisky's number thing and ging's hand bubbles, cuz now that i think about it, volume is a physical property , overall that was stupidness from me, but sharpness still doesnt stand as viable for transmutation, idk, nobody has given an actual explanation yet
edit 2: i dont think anyone said this but if they did kudos to them, gon can manipulate the density of his aura, and shape it into a blade, aka giving aura the same properties as a sword, sharp itself isnt a property but it can be made

So , I was wondering how nen affinities **actually work. I couldn't determine whether its mental or physical. I think evidence points toward it being physical though.
So, we learn that depending on what category you're born into you have an upper limit on how good you can become in other categories. We also know that what nen type you are can **sometimes** influence your personality ( the Hisoka personality test); Taking that into account, I thought maybe there's some kind of mental block that stops you from properly understanding the concepts behind the other nen types ( E.G Gon and paper).
But you also have Kurapikas teacher outlining that it doesn't matter how good of a learner you are , you can't overcome the "affinity barrier". This implies that there isn't a mental block and you could in theory completely understand the concepts behind different uses of nen( there are cases like Netero that support this).
This is why I believe that its probably just a physical thing. I think its probably something like your aura nodes not reacting well to the stimuli of other nen types. For example, you're a conjurer and you're trying to learn emission techniques. You're a smart person so you fundamentally understand whats supposed to happen and the general feel of it . However, no matter how well you understand it conceptually its like your aura just won't do what you tell it to. It would be like your aura nodes have constricted due to the stimulus of emission or something like that.
Im definitely over thinking it, but this is HxH. So, how do you guys think it works?

We are told at start of SC arc that magic beasts are said to originate from the dark continent, we are then later told again that magic beasts (gatekeepers) guide people to the dark continent. Could this be the kiriko or a subspecies as both were used to guide people to a place. Also, the Sumi tattoos showed that the woman kiriko swore her allegiance to a diety, could this mean that there is a “god”/“gods” of the dark continent who created all of these entities and disasters. Also, in chapter 338 Ging talks about the dark continent and we are shown a tree with what appears to be apples on it and 3 figures below with the apples. I wonder could this be an Adam’s apple type of situation where these 3 figures ate the forbidden apple and gained nen but were banished to the middle world that we are familiar with by the ruler who resides in the DC. Just my thoughts I haven’t heard this theory before and it seems possible. Reading again we are introduced to Brion who is protecting ancient ruins and clearly resembles a human.

Context:
After a Year of looking around and thanks to my brother gifting me Volume 28 I have the whole Chimera ant Manga, so I went to read it from start to finish along the anime playing in the background to match and I am so impressed by details I missed on first watch that now I feel like making a post of Gratitude a day giving praises to all the cool characters, I genuinely believe there is no character that could be left without it in some shape or form, order of post do not represent a top tiering, there will be no shaming characters just glaze, wait for your favorite to eventually show up.
Gun Ant:
Yes, I am serious with this one, and I need to open with I HATE this mother fucking ant, because Hate... HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE (Insert the rest of AM hate monologue here), I want to step back my gratitude post from main characters and give the spotlight to an unamed one that plays a big role on the arc, as much as I can glaze the big raid segment of the arc, the Chimera ant arc feels different than so much of the series up to this point for many reasons, up to this point what we see is how Kite is constantly talking about how dangerous of a threat the Chimera ant species can be, along this we get two old faces to join the story even if briefly now with improved skills for them, but also this is the point and high of the Gun Ant, since the ants start to mix with humans we see them as more dangerous but Gun ant is one of the first that fully displays the scarier part of them mixing with our DNA, and that is the malice of the human heart, we have no doubt that the person who used to be Gun Ant before becoming a Chimera ant was someone absolutely monstrous and despicable in human form, and this is the display of it then expanded with more ants, we also get the no way back point, can we say Hunter X Hunter before Gun Ant killed off characters? Yes, but it was limited, tame, and mostly Hisoka/Illumi, with Gun ant is... Visceral, dark, and is depicted fully as an act of savagery that makes some people genuinely say they stopped here or at least took a break before they continue the story, Gun Ant has such a massive inpact because this is one of the two "oh.. oh no" moments that cement this as a more gruesome and at stakes arc, and for that, even with how much I despise this bastard, I need to show gratitude and thank him, for without him the story would not have the weight it displays.
Also thank god it died crushed like a bug holy... Good bye you horrible bastard, and thank you for making me hate you.

the placements themselves i have no problems with and all make alot of sense, it was said by togashi that manipulators and conjurers are most prone to becoming specialists so that placement is mandatory, enhancement is the most simple nen affinity which while it can be complex it's still the opposite of specialization, emission being next to it is also pretty straight forward since its the second simplest
the question i had is why is emission a conjurers worst ability and vice versa since one of the requirements of conjuration is to detach the aura (in most cases) for example the fakes made from gallery fake maintain their form even after kortopi lets go of them, and they also maintain the "nen" label as kortopi can still sense them similarly to "en", so saying that detachment is just a side effect doesnt make sense as it still is " detaching aura from the body"
if anyone has an explanation for this, please share it with me

so am i stupid for never understanding it until now? Did Kurapika make it so, whenever he activates his eyes, he becomes a specialist at the cost of his lifespan decreasing the longer he stays with it activated? (i thought that was a common thing of the kurta clan but then reading a bit of the manga again didn't make sense) I also thought the only restriction he had was on the forced zetsu chain so he could kill all spiders

Watched this and liked it a lot.
By examining Nen from a psychological perspective, we see how personal the magic/power system of HxH is and how it serves to further characterize the cast. It really re-spins so much of Nen, particularly the basic rule that making an ability that deeply reflects your individuality makes it stronger. Also catches a lot of details that are easily missed, letting us appreciate the series even more.
One flaw is the number of mispronunciations the creator makes (Kurapika, Hakoware), but I can forgive him for the insights he provides.

What are you guys most excited for to be explored/revealed in the future. I am personally excited for either gon to potentially find a way to get his nen back or the introduction/look into Don Freecs. I love the succession war but I feel it’s more of a battle of wits between characters currently than big reveals or revelations in previous plot points.

One thing that has always bothered me about Hunter x Hunter is the apparent lack of dedicated Nen researchers.
Nen is an incredibly complex system, yet nobody seems to have a complete understanding of how it works, even Netero. There are so many unanswered questions about its mechanics, especially when it comes to conditions, limitations and vows.
Then there's Nen exorcism. Exorcists are supposedly extremely rare, and even the Hunter Association appears to have very limited access to them. Wouldn't studying Nen curses and developing better methods of exorcism be an incredibly valuable and lucrative field of research?
And those are just two examples. There's also post-mortem Nen, Nen beasts, Specialization, and all the weird interactions between different abilities. Surely there's an enormous amount left to discover.
I understand why Nen is kept secret from the general population. It's dangerous, and making it widely accessible could have serious consequences. But that doesn't explain why the Hunter Association, which is full of Nen users, wouldn't have dedicated researchers for Nen.
We have Hunters specializing in all sorts of fields. Why not Hunters specializing in understanding Nen itself?
I'm just surprised that, in a world where Nen is so important, there is no one systematically studying it.

Both scenes were straight disrespectful but I think Kurapika pulling up to a fight with a shovel is colder. It’s all fun and games until Kurapika rocks up with a shovel. Thoughts?

I love the Manga, but I have problems with the anime.
For me the mood is displayed much better in the manga.

i was strolling about, wasting my life on reddit, and then i read a comment that goes "if you think about it conjuration is the next step of transmutation since transmutation is giving nen physical properties and conjuration is making it physical" or smth along that line this gave me like a eureka moment
the nen chart flows down, going from simplicity to complexity
Step 1:ten and ren; ten is exiting aura from your body and ren is the next step of that, practically exiting more aura
Step 2:enhancement: exiting aura from your body and using that aura to aid in doing something ,by forcing action or bettering action
Step 3:(interpretation N1:in a format of branches) emission, manipulation, and specialization: im grouping these in one because if you noticed the last step it, the way i structured it gives multiple chances to what the next step could be, aka branches that all lie on the same level, emission: the next step of exiting aura from the body is ejecting it from it, freeing it completely ( this is what lies beyond exiting aura from the body, this is the fine line between emission and projection) manipulation: the next step of "using that aura to aid in doing something [..] forcing action" using aura to force an action, aiding the achievement of a goal specialization: the next step of "bettering action" because achieving the absolute best way of accomplishing an action is specializing in that action, complete dedication to
Step 3: (interpretation N2) the previous steps, emission, manipulation and specialization can also be twisted to fit as individual steps making step 4: exiting aura from the body; step 5: doing "something" with that exited aura; step 6: being the best at doing that 'something" with the exited aura from the body

I’ve always wondered why Shizuku has become such a popular character, considering how little screen time she actually gets. Is it mainly her aesthetic and character design, her personality, the mystery surrounding her, or the fact that her limited appearances leave fans wanting more?
What do you think makes her so appealing to the fandom?

Has anyone attempted to make a game based on Greed Island in HxH ?
I would imagine campaigns are set in a big map where people race to collect the cards by completing quests, defeating monsters, trading, and stealing 😎.
I would definitely give it a shot
