BIG WIN 🥳 Finally Banged a Senior Citizen! NSFW

Post image

Edit: The number of you that age shamed me with call it sex, not spicy sleep really? I have also been asked about the starter kit. That was just what I called it. I purchased a few things at the same time. I will add links at the bottom if I can, as to what I bought.

Second, my goal was actually just to help anyone going through this. I was feeling pretty alone in my journey. My friends were not having issues at the time. My Doctors dismissed me and my symptoms a lot. I was not good at advocating for myself, and sometimes I honestly thought I was going insane. Anyway here are the links. I also encourage anyone to check the menopause sub. That is where I found a lot of support.

First time posting, long-time lurker. I am a woman of a certain age. I went through menopause early at 45. (Shout-out to all my Gen-X rockstars that are dealing with periomen now; I promise it is better on the other side!) Things were ok for a while, but as time and age do, things started to not quite work as they should. Spicy sleep became painful, and I was diagnosed with atrophy. I went to a menopause specialist and asked for help. Here, use this cream and go home was basically all I got. Went back and said it's not working....try more. All this to say that spicy sleep was pretty much non-existent from that point on. My dear sweet husband never complained, never made me feel bad, never pressured. He hated seeing me in pain when we tried. So we had a dead bed for close to a year. I asked one night in January how he felt about it, and he said honestly, it was killing him. Because he missed us. I was determined to fix all of it, and I took to where else? Reddit for advice. After a lot of investigating, I basically bought the "fix your V@g started kit on Amazon and went to work. ( I also got a new OBGYN that actually listened to me) Lube, Kegel weights, estrogen cream ect. And after a few weeks and a lot of exercises, we tried again. And it worked finally! We slowly have been starting to have more spicy sleeps; this week was 3 times! My Husband tuned 55 in June, and of course we "celebrated" a certain way. After we were lying in bed talking, he said: "Well, you finally got to bang a senior citizen." I'm so lucky to have him as my person. Don't give up, ladies!

Last night's dinner: ricotta pesto with basil from my garden, fettuccine. Finally could sit outside because the wildfire smoke was gone for a minute!

Yes this! The worst part was that she was a woman! It was so disheartening, and I put off going back till my PCP told me I had to and recommended a new place. I went in with all my questions and told them what happened with this DR. The NP literally stopped and said, "OK, what are your concerns?" I almost cried!

I think this is an example of a much deeper issue in American healthcare and medical research. When men start having lower levels of testosterone, there is an immediate trigger in medical providers’ thinking to put them on hormone replacement therapy. When women have lower levels of estrogen, most doctors don’t treat it like a serious issue. That leads to women suffering for years. Hormone replacement therapy should be more widely used and prescribed by doctors. Low estrogen and going through menopause, which is the total stop of estrogen is not healthy for women. It’s not just lack of intimacy. It’s things like bone density being impacted. I wish there was like a list of doctors that specialize in menopause care because it’s not something that women have to suffer in silence for years when men have these similar symptoms, medical providers automatically know what type of treatment to give them so they can have a good quality of life.

And if I can really be spicy: this is a political issue as well. Scientific agencies should be funding research into areas like this. Not cutting funding and allowing medical research to continue for things like male patterned baldness when women are literally losing bone density when they go through menopause.

Yeah it’s so frustrating because the answer to everything after you’re 40 is “that’s pretty normal for someone your age”. Well, dr it’s not normal for me and it’s making me miserable so could you take 0.5 seconds to consider how to make it better since that’s your literal job?

When I switch to my new place the NP was so kind and supportive I DID cry. Also she thought my previous estrogen cream situation was bananas and got me on a much simpler and better solution (suppository). Also she told me you can put a vitamin E capsule up there to help with keeping everything nice and happy. Just pop it right in! Pro tip for you😉

They tell young girls that painful periods are normal- well sure most girls/women will have pain with their periods at some point, but endometriosis is NOT normal and there are many ways to reduce the pain or stop periods altogether. Which is what they should be told.

Just like IUDs should not be put in without offering pain control or to place it under sedation.

u/all_Murky_no_Lurky Well-Read & Well-Fed Jul 19 '26

I had three gynecologists in my teens who told me the pain was all in my head. I had fevers every month, was I able to get out of the fetal position for at least a full day, etc. Luckily my mom kept looking until we found a doctor who actually believed me and diagnosed my endometriosis. I had three laparoscopies before 25 and am still dealing with symptoms as I slide into perimenopause. It’s a full time job in itself just to find a doctor to believe you and treat you.

2

This is how I felt going to a new OBGYN too 🥹 I’m 25, been suffering extremely painful and egregiously heavy periods since I was 13. My first gyn told me “it’s like this for everyone, you’re not special” and sent me on my way with birth control that didn’t help the pain or heaviness. Had to stop taking it because it made me queasy later on too. (Yes, she was a woman)

10 years later, I finally find the courage to see a different lady and she actually listens and goes “oh honey, you might have PCOS. Let’s go get you some tests.”

Lo and behold! I’m now taking hormone BC and my life has been so much better.

I always marvel at the number of times, for a variety of concerns, a doctor has dismissed me but a nurse practitioner listened and was able to able me. I swear by nurse practitioners now.

Women doctors have been the worst in my experience. Rarely ever helpful, with the single exception being the midwife that delivered both my kids 20 years ago, she was amazing. Women nurses though, they are healthcare rockstars and I appreciate them so much!

8

u/rheumination Food for Thot 💭 Jul 18 '26

I feel like we are using “not listening” and “gaslighting” as interchangeable terms when they are two different things.

20

u/ExtraordinaryNerd Well-Read & Well-Fed Jul 18 '26

I don’t disagree. However, doctors are kind of infamous for gaslighting the shit out of women.

1

u/rheumination Food for Thot 💭 Jul 18 '26

I see people say that a lot, but when they describe specific situations, it always sounds like women are ignored. That’s obviously a huge problem but it’s also different than gaslighting which involves a few different very specific behaviors.

I’m not trying to defend how the medical system treats women. I’m just trying to clarify: do we think doctors are engaging in actual gaslighting or are they simply dismissing problems and not listening? Take a look at the definition of gaslighting and let me know what you think.

8

u/ExtraordinaryNerd Well-Read & Well-Fed Jul 18 '26

Not being an expert here, I can really only speak from personal experience and also having had a ton of anecdotal experience. My mother was told for years that her pain was in her head or that her pain was a result of having children or that it was this that or the other thing. She had a hysterectomy. Her uterus lining was the thickest the doctors had ever seen. She was bleeding to extremes nearly every month.

Myself was told repeatedly that it was just cause I was fat. It was arthritis. It was this that or the other thing. No there was a vestigial piece of tendon in my knee that had stretched tight and was not being seen by any scans. And every time I walked, it would get radically, inflamed, and caused extreme pain. I lived with that for years. They didn’t wanna bother looking closer.

Medical dismissal of pain by doctors towards women is a scientifically documented thing that I’m certain someone smarter than I could research and look up and provide citations for I just know that it exists

-7

u/rheumination Food for Thot 💭 Jul 18 '26

The idea behind gaslighting is that the person knows what the truth is and his intentionally misleading the person, making them feel crazy as a form of control.

For example, when you talk about your knee it sounds like they listened to you, took your pain seriously, performed scans, and the scans didn’t show anything.  It sounds l like they didn’t know what to do next since they couldn’t find the problem. In fact, it sounds like you know know what the problem is so somebody did eventually listen to you and figure it out.

So the question is, were they intentionally not telling you about the problem and gaslighting or were they just not sure what the problem was? Those are different things.

7

u/ExtraordinaryNerd Well-Read & Well-Fed Jul 18 '26

I could type out this whole argument, but I’m not going to. You’re not going to listen. Gaslighting isn’t knowing the truth…. It’s about the control. So you’re half right. Regardless, you’re not here with good intentions so I am bowing out.

4

u/GorgeousUnknown APPROVED✨ Jul 18 '26

I consider it gaslighting by a doctor if you go in with issues and they act like it’s normal, there’s nothing you can do, and you’re crazy for asking. They can do this by saying exactly what OP said she said…”so what is the problem”.

-5

u/rheumination Food for Thot 💭 Jul 18 '26

“ they act like it’s normal”

Her original doctor didn’t act like it was normal. In fact they diagnosed vaginal atrophy which is not normal. They also prescribed estrogen cream. They wouldn’t have prescribed something if things were normal.

“Act like there’s nothing they can do“

That happened but that’s not gaslighting. That’s Weaponized incompetence.

“Act like you’re crazy for asking”

This is the part never happened in this scenario.

The definition of gaslighting you provided isn’t consistent with the definition of gaslighting and it also doesn’t describe this situation very well. The situation better be described as a doctor initially listening, diagnosing a problem, prescribing first line treatment, and then no longer listening or providing any subsequent treatment. That’s bad, but is that gaslighting? Not by any definition I’m aware of.

Good for you! And ditto on switching drs if yours isn’t listening. For me, peri gave me UTI-like pain all day every day bc of vaginal atrophy - NOT GOOD. Was on 2 different creams. Finally switched drs, started HRT and an estrogen suppository that works so much better. All good down there now - she’s feeling 22! (But with no periods! Yay!)

Ladies - pay attention bc no one told me about vaginal atrophy when estrogen levels decline. And I was out here thinking I had multiple UTIs or BV - was doing all the wrong things probably making it worse and in total misery. Just because we don’t talk about this stuff. But it’s normal, it’s not weird or freakish and it’s pretty easily fixable with a dr who listens!

Please let the ladies have the floor, lean heavier on GIF/emojis, and keep the mods' dude comment approvals queue clear!

Review the Gentleman's Guide to GDD, and please watch for "No Dude Input" post flair.

This makes me so happy. I started perimenopause at 39 and I began HRT at 40. A huge motivation for me to pursue treatment — and not simply suffer through this period — is so that I can show up as a good partner for my husband. And yes, sex! I want to keep having enjoyable, pain-free sex for as long as possible.

Good for you babe.

Elder Gen X checking in - at 58 I’m through the wilderness of menopause and got idgaf.exe installed for free!

We sleep separately but still have fun sleep overs a couple of times a week. I use the estrogen cream and put the extra on my neck/lips. Figure it can’t hurt. Lol

I love my 50’s - I’m so confident about my body and what I want it makes things so much better. Of course at first I had body issues after having three babies. My game changer was realizing I’m the hottest naked woman in the room.

Good on you sister!!

I was going through this and started treatment over a month ago. Things are finally back on track after a long dry spell. Thank goodness for all the resources and being able to share experiences with other women going through the same thing here on Reddit! I've always embraced my sexual and sensual self and feeling like losing that part of me was so depressing. I'm so excited for us regaining this aspect again!

44 in menopause and on HRT. My libido has vanished and I cannot find anything that helps. I've been told to add testosterone but I'm not sure if that will help. HRT fixed everything else. Glad you found something that works for you. Happy sex!!!!

I tried testosterone as well. It helped a little but it made me mean. I think I was taking too much.

I might try again. I did OTC. Now that I have a better Dr. I might ask them.

1

u/sweetthang70 APPROVED✨ Jul 18 '26

I recommend at least trying the testostetone. I had zero libido for several years after menopause. Estrogen and progesterone helped with the other menopause issues, but my sex drive was dead and gone which was sooo upsetting. I started a low dose of T this past January. It took a long time to start working but finally after 6 months it just kind of hit and now my libido is back with such a vengeance I think my poor husband is exhausted.

2

u/Wittyfem APPROVED✨ Jul 18 '26

That's awesome!!! This gives me hope 😁 I will ask for a low dose on my next appointment.

So glad you got the care you needed! and I love "spicy sleep", am totally stealing.

Husbun and I had similar issues post menopause, which my GYN helped us solve with vaginal estrogen. She also pointed out that extreme vaginal dryness/stenosis (we referred to mine as "the Sahara desert") can also promote recurrent UTIs, which are horribly uncomfortable and can literally be deadly if untreated.

So all you ladies of a certain age with dryness, GET HELP!
