Where Do Finns Buy Their Winter Jackets?
Hi everyone! 😊
I moved to Finland in August and will be staying here for about 2 years. I’m looking for a winter jacket that will keep me warm but isn’t too heavy. I’d love something colourful, preferably in a vibrant orange (think autumn colours) or a bold electric blue. I’m not really into the usual black, grey or neutral-coloured winter jackets.
My budget is around €150–200, and I’d actually prefer to buy second-hand if I can find the right one.
I’ve checked Stadium, Intersport and XXL, but I haven’t found anything that matches the style I’m looking for.
So, Finnish people, where do you usually buy your winter jackets? Are there any stores or second-hand shops you’d recommend?
I’d really appreciate any recommendations!🧡💙❄️

Anyone interested in support group meetings
Would anyone be interested in participating in a support group? Specifically about cancer? As a caregiver or the patient? In remission or not? I am curious: are there any groups specifically for this? I searched it but couldn't find any

Selling the rest of my model kits
Hi, I live in Tampere and have some model kits I bought in Japan. I've sold some of them to users here before, and they can vouch for my authenticity.
All the kits I'm selling are unopened, mint, and brand new, purchased directly from Japan. Some boxes are damaged because they've been sitting in a damp attic through the winter for five years.
I can do IRL trades in Tampere or ship via Posti. If you buy just one kit, you'll have to cover the shipping costs. If you buy multiple kits, I can chip in for half of the shipping.
Here's the list of what I have. To be honest, I just want these weeb kits gone. I know they're a hard sell because a lot of model kit fans are into Gundam or Eva, but I'll risk it and take a shot anyway.

DM me if there's anything you're interested in! I'll do my best to link a video review or give you my personal opinion on certain kits based on what I've built before.

Learning both Finnish and Swedish as a foreigner
Is there any foreigner who has learned both Finnish and Swedish? I am curious as a foreigner. I speak Finnish at a B2 level, and I am taking the YKI keskitaso exam soon, but I have loved my language journey overall, so much so that I plan to continue that by learning Swedish next. I know for a lot of people this will be useless, but honestly, language learning keeps my brain sharp, and you actually get to learn many cultural elements which is fascinating.
So, I am just curious if there are any "hullu" like me who have learned both (started with Finnish and then tackled Swedish) or vice versa.
Edit: I recently visited Pietarsaari and I was surprised to see all the road signs were first in Swedish and then in Finnish. That got me interested. Cultural shock in Finland XD

Serious Needed a tutor for my son (sciences & math) but couldn't find anyone Finnish
Hey there,
My son (14) is struggling with school and I went looking for a private tutor on iTutorOnline but couldn't find anybody. I heard from my wife's friends that they had found a tutor there, but to no avail. Can anyone recommend me where we can get an online tutor from Finland? (following Finnish curriculum) Thank you!

Former Norwich and Finland striker Pukki to retire
Former Norwich City and Finland striker Teemu Pukki has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36.
Pukki, who quit international duty last year, is Finland's men's all-time top scorer with 43 goals in 133 matches, while his number of caps is the country's second highest.

Edit: I can't link to images on this subreddit, but his Instagram announcement can be read here.

LUT University + Future Aviation Career
Moi!
I recently got accepted into LUT University Mechanical Engineering program. Really I'm doing university as a backup because I'm passionate about aviation and want to seriously consider doing modular flight training and see myself in the cockpit after graduation. That said I have some questions about this route.
How is LUT perceived in Finland? Is it good? I applied to Aalto last year but since I sent my scores late I got auto-rejected and I didn't want to take risk that this year would be harder to get into so I accepted LUT
I understand that the 3 year bachelor program is considered incomplete in Finland. Can I do my masters in Aalto after finishing the bachelor program in LUT?
How is Blue Skies (In Lappeenranta) and what about other aviation academies in Finland?
And honestly I want the brutal truth, should I even consider Finland?

Whiskey advent calendar
Hi! Does anyone have recommendations for a good whisky advent calendar that can be shipped to Finland?
I found a few with good reviews on Master of Malt, but they don’t ship here. I know I could put one together myself, but I’d like to buy a ready-made one this time.
Has anyone bought one recently that they’d recommend? Which one did you get, and where did you order it from? Thanks!

How do the Kakkonen/Ykkönen transfer window and tryouts work in practice? (Discussion on Finnish football)
Hi! I recently returned to Finland after playing for some time in the Swiss leagues, and I'm now trying to better understand the domestic football scene. How do the tryout culture and winter transfer window for the Finnish lower leagues (Kakkonen/Ykkönen) actually work? Are clubs here open to direct contact, or do you always need an agent behind the scenes?
I'd love to hear from people who follow local football about how clubs usually recruit new players (especially strikers), and any tips on how best to break into this network

As of August 2026 there were 329 618 unemployed jobseekers for 26 240 vacancies
I knew the situation was bad but didn't expect unemployed people to outnumber open jobs 12 to 1 (source: https://statfin.stat.fi/PxWeb/pxweb/en/StatFin/StatFin__tyonv/12r5.px/table/tableViewLayout1/).
There's also this website where you can check the situation in individual occupations and it's pretty grim in some fields (architecture, software engineering, civil engineering).

My friend refused to get naked in a Finnish sauna for religious reasons and now thinks Finns are racist
We’re both 30M, both foreigners, and recently visited Finland together. We had a pretty awkward experience at a public sauna, and I’m curious what Finns think about it.
When we arrived, my friend realised that people were getting completely naked. He refused to undress because of his religious beliefs. He wasn’t comfortable being naked around strangers, even if they were all men. So he went in with his underwear , people asked him nicely to leave.
Personally, I had no problem with it. I got completely naked, went into the sauna, and honestly, nobody seemed to care. No one stared at me, made comments or treated me differently.
But my friend was really uncomfortable with the whole experience, and afterwards he started complaining about Finland. He said Finns were racist, that they didn’t respect other cultures or religions, and that he didn’t want to visit the country again.
I disagreed with him. From my perspective, we’re visitors in a country with its own customs, and I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect everyone to change those customs for us. At the same time, I understand that he has religious boundaries.
What bothered me was that he went from having an uncomfortable experience at a sauna to calling an entire country racist.
I also felt a bit embarrassed because I didn’t want people around us to think we were judging their culture.
So I wanted to ask Finns: is refusing to get naked in a public sauna actually considered disrespectful? How would you react if someone refused for religious reasons?
And do you think there’s something culturally insensitive about expecting visitors to follow local sauna etiquette, or is my friend being unreasonable?
I’m genuinely curious because we experienced exactly the same situation but came away with completely different impressions of Finland.
Edit 1: he didn’t say only racist , he said also “gay” if asked him to him to get naked !
Edit 2: it was the first trip and I knew this part of him , I don’t think I would ever travel with him again
Edit 3: I totally get it, so swimsuit and towel are accepted? The place we went to, everyone was fully naked , no swimsuit or towel in sight!

Searching for outdoor fire pits near Kirkkonummi / Masala
Hello! Looking to take my partner for a little outdoor evening dinner Forrest style with a fire to stay warm but want to do it in a safe way. Can anyone recommenced any nice spots? I know there are some huts near my area but you need to hire from the local council and usually are not open later in the evening. Any advice would be amazing, our anniversary is next month and I know they would love this.
Thanks in advance <3

Serious toque/beanie and Hood wearing
Hi all! Not trying to stereotype, I know not every Finn does this, but I keep seeing it mentioned as a Finnish thing: the hood or beanie fully on, then tucked back behind the ears. I'm curious where that came from. Is it practical, a style that just caught on, or is there a story behind it? And do you even notice it often as a thing? Thanks!
