This thread is full of people who really don't understand the point:

It's not telling you grandparent hugs are bad. It's telling you that ignoring other people's boundaries REGARDING THEIR OWN PHYSICAL BODY is bad.

This is especially important with kids, because it's important to teach kids that they're allowed to exercise bodily autonomy. If kids aren't taught that, it becomes far easier for someone to take advantage of them being trained to allow touching they don't want because they feel like they have to.

Yeah our parents have hated it but we're pushing this with our kids. Idc if theyre only 3yo, if they dont wanna hug then they dont have to.

One of my nephews and I both aren’t comfortable with this kind of scenario, but his parents insist on him giving me a hug and kiss on the cheek when I see him and it drives me absolutely insane. He’ll have the same uncomfortable body language as the girl in the video and I’ll literally say “No thanks, I’m not comfortable with that right now. Fist bump instead?” (cos I know he’s comfortable with that) and still they’ll insist he’s being rude for not only setting his own boundaries, but also respecting mine.

I do the same with my niblings. I don't care if your mom wants you to give me a hug buddy, whats important here is what YOU want. If they look uncomfortable then I suggest a fist-bump, and if they still look uncomfortable then I wave and then do something else to indicate the hello interaction is over.
