As a kid I hated being forced to hug/be physically touched by people. It felt so intrusive. It was “hard” for my family to understand and even harder for them to respect.
At 40, I still feel the same. A few years back I was at a bookstore with my mom and she found a book called “Don’t Hug Doug” teaching that consent is important and it’s okay not to want people touching you (and likewise it’s okay for them to enforce those boundaries, even as a child). We both cried in the aisle and had a really good chat about how people are finally understanding bodily autonomy.
These ads are a great step forward for that, and for teaching young women especially that who touches their bodies is their choice alone.
