As a kid (and even as an adult) there have been many times I have been truly not wanting to be hugged by some folks, even if they're family members.

My ex’s grandmother would insist on giving me a slobbery kiss on the cheek. Disgusting. People need to be taught boundaries.

Great trick if you’re going to a gathering where the people do this is to coat your cheeks with either anti teething toddler bitter spray or something slimy or greasy like Vaseline prior to arrival. People will learn you aren’t nice to kiss like a butterfly that’s poisonous

A past step father always wanted to kiss us on the mouth. I fucking hated it so much, i was already a kid that didnt like touch and he made sure to make his lips so gross and slimy. One time i had enough and spit right in his mouth, it stopped him lol. Got yelled at but no more unwanted kisses.

Good for you! A child shouldn’t need to resort to something like that to avoid being touched but it’s good you were still able to stand up for yourself. I always sort of limply let my relatives do what they were going to after verbally protesting. I should have hit and spit back

Great way to blind your child in one eye from a random aunt’s asymptomatic herpes too

Infants and toddlers don’t have the immune system we do

She did nearly give me chicken pox when she had shingles.

But it's fine if they're hot right?

You mean…the grandmother?

I've had a stranger I'd never seen before (friend of a friend? I think?) go for a hug and acted like I was a bitch for refusing to hug him.

You can tell of it is a genuine hug though. It reveals if the person likes your or not

Not true. My sister is just not a hugger (neither of us are), but she'll hug relatives out of social convention. Always a very light, perfunctory hug with back pat etc. It isn't that she doesn't like the person; she just doesn't like the act. But for her, the calculus is it's easier to just hug great aunt whoever than try to explain. She does not, however, force her child to do the same. If kiddo says no hug, it means no hug.
