Affection is earned. Simple as that.

We have never, even one time, made our daughter hug someone but you know what she does when she see greets us or her grandparents. She runs up and gives them a hug because she wants to. Not because it’s expected/required.

You guys are good parents! Seems like a lot of commenters eager to hug unwilling people just don't want to accept they're not very well liked in the first place.
