I got this a few days ago too, and now I'm locked out of all my chats. Really hope they fix this bs soon.

honestly with all the recent changes to gpt its like theyre actively trying to get rid of their users

They are trying to get rid of not only Free users, but all underclass of Go and Plus, and the Chat itself. Their focus is on Pro and Work.

being fully locked out seems like a different issue than what OP hit, a full memory shouldnt block you from starting fresh conversations

u/late44thegameNOW 4h ago

Yes but until it's fixed I'm having to start a new conversation every 10-20 messages without being able to chat in the original.

might be a bug that came with a new update? im seriously hoping its not an update to force people to pay for higher tiers because thatd be seriously scummy. hope its fixed soon

u/Jumpy-Cantaloupe7498 8h ago

That could be really possible as i had it only one time as plus user. Chat was very short and it was said its full lenght.

It wouldnt surprise me if it is a bug, because the android app for older smartphones doesnt work properly, a larger chat couldnt be load in the app of a newer smartphone, few days ago i wasnt able to log in to the windows app and, and, and.....

i think its pretty obvious that the servers are stressed out, ai has been advancing i bet the models rn are more complex than ever, also not many people were buying those $20 subscriptions and well they need to start moving users that are dependent on the service to the paid teirs. I think it should also be noted that at first there were a lot of people that just flat out wouldn’t use AI because they didn’t educate themselves about it or we’re fed propaganda about it and now people have opened their minds much more then when it couldnt do anything

I don't understand, conceptually, how this is even an issue. ChatGPT has clearly been struggling recently to refer to its own memories or to previous content within its existing chat but had no problem doing so a year ago.

Can someone explain to me how this is helpful to OpenAI in any way? I mean apart from upsetting users and potentially losing some of them, how does opening a new chat where you are potentially drawing on the same exact concepts actually help? Isn't it still being forced by the settings to refer to your previous memories and previous interactions to generate the response?

I also don't understand why, if this is such a memory issue, they haven't found something like a query structure to run for the user on a topic through all previous content, then stop, then answer based on integrating that with the factual or external information it has found. How is this even an issue for something that can search all of Reddit, Wikipedia, and countless published novels or products that it is now struggling to remember something from 6 prompts previously in a conversation thread? It seems like it should be a trivial task.

I've been having issues the last 24-48 hours. In top of this "memory full" messages, a lot of my conversation history is missing. A year's worth in some conversations. When I open a conversation, it'll show a really old message as the most recent activity. Then after 30 seconds, it loads newer messages and scrolls all the way down on its own. But sometimes it doesn't do this.

Cara, isso é tão frustante. Eu mal havia começado o chat, talvez não tenha enviado nem sequer três mensagens direito antes dele me cortar e agora estou bloqueada em todos os chats.

ive also had this issue with both long and relatively short chats but i checked just now and the message just vanished. i can continue talking so i guess check your chats

I use ChatGPT and Codex daily and have no issues, are you using a paid account?

u/TopConcentrate8484 7h ago

get the $20 subscription

u/Spiritual_Pie_8298 7h ago

Sure we would if in the most parts of the world the average wage would't be around (or even less) than $100. It's small money just for Americans.

9

u/Background-Book4315 7h ago

I have a paid account and a free account… it’s happening on both.. it’s not just the free accounts that are affected

3

u/A_KAM91 7h ago

Pro business user here. I have the same issue. =(

3

u/Ryan_Calhoun 6h ago

Then it is most likely a bug then, Pro users shouldn't even be getting this this at all considering they pay hundreds monthly... What the hell has happened within the past 48 hours?

-8

u/lIIIlllIIIIllIIIIlll 7h ago

People using it for free then wonder why there's limits.... If you use it that much just pay the $20

6

u/Spiritual_Pie_8298 7h ago

Sure we would if in the most parts of the world the average wage would't be arond (or even less) than $100. It's small money just for Americans. Plus yesterday there was no limits and plus and go people see it too.

-1

u/Lazy-Bluebird8755 6h ago

well AI isn’t a human right yet, hopefully they go to paid only so every paying customers chats have more power

6

u/dscdrivercpm-fr 7h ago

What’s $20 to you seems like $200 to people in other parts of the world

We've already accepted ads, we've already accepted that it uses us part of its product by learning/reusing our private information. Not everyone can afford to pay and those of us who are using it to support work and non-profit work do not want to personally pay for a service when our offices are unable to include the expense in their budget.

What is happening right now in throttling the usage is as heinous as google saying you cannot search more than five times a day or Amazon saying you couldn't view more than five products a day. It interferes in the very business and profit that ChatGPT would otherwise benefit from while making life substantially harder for individuals.
