so cuteeee! its always nice to see people who really care about thsir buns. btw, have you considered desensitisation? im asking as a person who had problems with a bun that use to hate being picked up but got sick often enough that it was unavoidable.

u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 01 '26
Iāve tried, a lot. The more we tried to desensitize her, the less she trusted us. We donāt have any issues picking her up to give her medicine or to brush her when we need to, she just gets very uncomfortable and stressed. After many attempts, we decided to just accept that thatās her personality haha

u/Smart_Career5116 Jun 01 '26
i see! i agree, if you can handle her enough to make sure shes taken care of then thats good enough. youre an amazing bun parent!!!

u/hurricanelauncher Jun 01 '26
That's so valid of her tbh! If people were trying to desensitize me to physical touch, I would also get uncomfortable and stressed.

Bunny autism must be a thing.

u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 02 '26
It has to be. Iām pretty sure my girl is neurodivergent, she shows all the signs

u/SuperblyWerbly Jun 01 '26
I use a throw pillow for mine, sometimes she jumps on my back and awaits being taxi'd.
Yes. I'm on all 4s crawling around when she wants to go for a ride on her peasants back.

Our dog hates being picked up. But loves watching the laundry machine fill up with water. Said machine opens via the top. It gets complicated.

u/No-Value5620 Jun 01 '26
This is what my bun expects me to do for her every time š like girl I canāt

u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 01 '26

what a sweet and polite lil babe!!! For my bun I would go up against the bed on all 4s and she'd jump onto my back, sometimes she'd wanna go for a ride around the room like that but mostly I just bowed down and she'd exit the vehicle, lol.

your bunny uses the elevator?
and doesn't freak out when the surface begins to move?
what a genius.

Me and my sister did this with our bunnies. As others are saying we called it a bunny elevatorš¤£š

Hi
That reminds me how ancient Germanic tribes warriors would rise their elected kings on a shield to mark it's reigns beginning (a habit that must have inspired Abraracourcix's character in AstƩrix comics)

u/te3time Jun 01 '26
You should totally get some steps for her but this is super cute also the mess of hay on the floor makes me feel better about theĀ state of my apartment sometimes lmao
5
u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 01 '26
My husband is super allergic haha, thatās why we donāt have steps, we donāt allow them to get on the bed whenever they want to. Itās sort of a treat for them
1
u/eieio2021 Jun 02 '26
So she asks for the elevator on the way up too? Haha what a princess. I love that youāre so kind and patient with her.
2
u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 02 '26
On the way up she allows me to pick her up. Itās the only time she lets me do that voluntarily. She learned to communicate that to me. Basically, she stares at the bed, then at me, then does that periscope thingy. Thatās how I know haha
3
u/FiveBelowCinnamoroll Jun 01 '26
But how'd she get up there
13
u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 01 '26
She asks me to put her there lol itās the only time she allows me to pick her up. She looks at the bed, looks at me, does that periscope thingy, then I know itās time haha

u/Hentaigustav Jun 01 '26
Aww cute!
I had a disabled bunny once and he hated his accessibility gadgets. He wasn't able to hop, so we put a ramp on the stairs, so he could go up and down without having to smash his hind legs against them. He literally never used it. I even put treats on the ramp and put him on it repeatedly, but he would just hop off and do it the other way

This is the sweetest, most considerate thing Iāve ever seen in this sub. š„²

u/AUserNameFails Jun 01 '26
Oh no...I can't show my gremlins. This will be a new form of indentured servitude to them. And I already pay the cookie tax every time I walk by.
1
u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 02 '26
Definitely. It started as a way to get her down, but now she likes to do it for fun and asks me to do the elevator several times in a row

I had a bunny who often used my back as an elevator despite being able to jump off the bed alone, it was the cutest thing

Have you tried steps? So she doesnāt have to hop so high
3
u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 01 '26
My husband is allergic to rabbits, so we donāt allow them on the bed at all times, itās sort of a treat from them. Thatās why we havenāt added steps
1
u/damiana8 Sesamochi Jun 01 '26
Did you figure out whether he was actually allergic to bunnies or their hay?
2
u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 02 '26
Yes! He did an extensive blood test and he is actually allergic to rabbits. Heās doing a treatment now, immune therapy for allergies
1
u/Activision19 Jun 01 '26
My great uncle had a dog about that size, she couldnāt jump up or down from his bed. So he bought some little pet stairs so his dog could get on and off the bed as she pleased.

I think lionhead breed is the breed that abhors being human-handled (I have one too). The lops are the most that likes to be coddled, as least from what I observe here in the sub.

Have you considered some cat steps for her? :o

I personally brought a ramp for my bunnies to use. I pick them up and put them on my bed for the first time and lay on the bed as I watch them figure it out.
1
u/FancySatisfaction509 Jun 02 '26
my bunny definitely doesnāt like being picked up so Iāll have to trick him to hop on to my lap with a treat, I wish I could cuddle him but oh well!
1
u/Fine_Understanding81 Jun 02 '26
I struggled with desensitizing mine to being held when he was young.
One day I had to grab him quickly and I picked him up backwards like a ball ... and he somehow he thought that was the most acceptable transport...
Hes to big to ball carry now lol more like a football. I dont think he will ever be a bunny you carry around but thats okay! I think thats kinda hard to accept at first, I kept thinking it was my fault.. but hes extrely friendly and crawls all over me for cuddles. Your bunny obviously trusts you a ton to get onto a floating board!
He has a living room and a loft that is contained on each side incase of emergencies- I taught him to go into it when I ask (for a treat of course) so I dont have to chase and try to pick him up.

Cute. Jersey woolies are my favorites.
2
u/pixxie_alpaca Jun 02 '26
They are so cute, right? Itās a shame they are a relatively rare breed to find. Iām obviously biased, but sheās one of the cutest bunnies Iāve ever seen haha
1
u/CosmicTheMuffin Jun 02 '26
I used to do that with my rabbit when she had a suspended hutch š When we moved we cut the legs of the hutch off so it could sit on the floor, way easier.
