College Questions 11th grader looking for affordable, trans-friendly US colleges

I'm an Indian trans person hoping to study math or a related STEM field in the US after Class 12. I'm looking for colleges with the following requirements

  1. Financial aid for international students (My family can't afford full international tuition, so I'd need substantial aid)

  2. LGBT/trans-friendly campus in a trans-safe state

  3. realistic acceptance rates but still with decent programs for stem

  4. Admission requirements for Indian applicants

I'd especially appreciate if anyone who's gone through this process could recommend colleges, share their application stats/experience, or explain what I should focus on in high school (grades, SAT, ec's, etc) thank you

College Questions PLEASE Northeastern opinions FROM RECENT EXPERIENCE

DISCLAIMER: I know about the acceptance rate manipulation. I don’t want to hear that it affects your opinion of it, because it doesn’t reflect the actual school experience.

I’m seeing a lot of mixed and OLD reviews about Northeastern. I’m also hearing that the co-op sometimes just doesn’t work out, which would kind of suck really bad.

If it helps, I love being abroad and I want to start in London first year with London Scholars. I would study Biology and English (presumed) which is one major, which excited me. I was thinking of EDing to help my chances, but going to London, having 4.8 4.0 weighted/unweighted GPA and 35 ACT, is it not worth it to ED, because I have high chances? I was originally excited, but unfortunately I think online opinions are getting to me. I don’t want to be miserable.

Financial Aid/Scholarships how does someone afford college in the UK as an international student?

ive looked into UK colleges and it is famous about them that they dont offer financial aids only the merit based scholarships which are limited to 30% leaving a huge amount to be paid by the student. How does one manage that huge amount as someone coming from a low income household from a relatively poor country. Please let me know if its possible to get it funded or find a way to pay the huge tuition. Asking for a friend! thankyou 🤍

Advice Applying to 10+ colleges? Here's a simple way to keep everything organized

If you're applying to multiple colleges this fall, one of the biggest challenges is keeping track of everything.

Here's a system that can help:

  1. Create a college list. Separate schools into reach, target, and likely categories.
  2. Track deadlines separately. Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision, and scholarship deadlines may differ.
  3. Create a checklist for each school. Include essays, recommendations, testing requirements, and other materials.
  4. Track application progress. Mark each requirement as not started, in progress, or completed.
  5. Review everything weekly. Don't rely on memory when you're managing 10+ applications.

One thing I've learned from working on college-planning software is that keeping information in one place can make the process much more manageable.

For those applying this year, what's been the hardest part of staying organized?

Application Question Class rank

My kiddo just found out that he missed the decile 1 ( top 10%) by a hair. Literally 0.01 point away!

Well too late to do any thing about it now. Hope this is not going to be his Achilles heel especially to elite private schools since they rate class rank as very important.

Is this a big deal? I think there is going to be some tangible impact. After 12th semester 1, pretty sure his gpa will cross the threshold but I don’t think the new transcript will be available in time even for RD.

Rant extremely hot take about Cornell

I seriously think, especially if you are a parent and you send your child to a school like that after something that serious happened you have a lot to consider.

people literally justify still applying to Cornell because it’s an Ivy League or top school. Are your morals really that low that you will go to school because it’s seen as prestigious? lol u seriously have problems and need to stay away from me

And if you look beyond that, if something happened to you at Cornell, they probably will not care and yes, you could say this happens at every school but something this national should wake you up and tell you something

Every day I’m losing hope for this generation and it doesn’t help that people are making jokes about this. We seriously have some reflection to do.

and if you think applying now would boost your chance, you should think again you probably don’t have the stats if you have to consider Cornell after this case lol

Discussion what are the ethics of applying for aid you don't actually need?

Someone in my high school is going to Dartmouth with full aid despite being loaded to hell because both her parents are retired, so less income to report( under the 200k required). Now, I understand that Yale's need blind otherwise, so it's not like she's robbing another student of their aid. Is it morally acceptable to do this? I don't intend to do this at all and I bear no ill will towards them, I'm just curious what ppl think

Advice im just a college sophomore but I already regret all my life choices

if you’re still in hs, here’s some advice I wish I had myself before starting college.

1) Please do four years of a language in hs.
Get the language prof. requirement for college out of the way! So you have more room in your first two years to explore or start you major

2) Have a major decided on before college.
You’re at a disadvantage if you go in undecided. They say you have time to decide and it’s ok to change your mind, but we all know that’s not true.
At least have a strong, secure idea of 1-3 you might want to do.

3) Get started on major intro courses your first semester. If you start too late it will be harder to complete them all. Intro courses are the foundation for advanced work. If you start early you can do more advanced coursework sooner.
If you havent completely decided on a major, take the intro courses for those you’re interested in so you’ve already completed them once you decide.

4) Don’t waste time on hs extracurriculars like clubs (and unless you’re very good at sports or instruments, don’t waste time with them). It means nothing about how many honor societies you were in or how many clubs your were president of. Instead do #5

5) Get a job or internship in high school to have some work experience prior to college!! No one will hire you with a blank resume, not even for entry level basic on campus jobs. If you make money save half of it and use the other half for college expenses.

6) Start planning everything EARLY EARLY!
Start thinking about classes for the next semester at the beginning of the semester you’re currently in. Even better, just map a rough draft of all four years (if you know your major). Start planning for summer in the winter (jobs/internships fill up fast). Take advantage of summer classes or winter study abroad classes even if they’re expensive (for the general college requirements)
Frees up your schedule during the semester and completes requirements so you don’t have to waste time during the academic year

Shitpost Wednesdays 7,009 people stopped applying to Cornell. We need to finish what they started.

Cornell applications fell 9.7% from 72,523 to 65,514 this year.

That's 7,009 people who found better things to do.

At this rate, if we all stop applying, Cornell could reach a 100% acceptance rate.

Future applicants must continue this historic movement.

Future generations deserve better admissions odds.

Don't let the 7,009 sacrifices go to waste.

Together, we can make Cornell a great safety school.

Application Question Should i mention my addiction in the additional information part of the application

Basically during the end of sophomore/beginning of junior year i struggled a lot with addiction/depression and it severely impacted my grades. I also don't want to like be super personal about it and i doubt bringing up substance abuse will look good for colleges.

Shitpost Wednesdays "Stanford"

It has long been established that "Stanford" is not real. All of their campus pictures are empty, and they accept no one while collecting expensive application fees. "Stanford" only "exists" so that successful people can pay to be listed as alumni to increase their social status. Fake alumni make "Stanford" seem more prestigious, attracting more applicants and generating more application fees.

But I think there is more to this. Where does the money go? And who founded this so-called university?

Universities are businesses, and like any business, they need revenue. But unlike ordinary businesses, their primary objective is to assemble the finest marching band money can buy. Incidentally, the fact that "Stanford" doesn't even have a marching band is further proof that it does not exist. Recruiting the best musicians requires enormous financial resources, which explains why universities are willing to offer extraordinary sums to secure exceptional talent.

Real top universities are able to fund their bands from application fees. But what about the less prestigious universities that don't get many applicants?

The biggest clue comes from the February 17, 2023, episode of the Bootleg Kev Podcast. Big Boogie accidentally reveals that he received a $15 million offer from a big school in Jacksonville. Realizing he had disclosed more than he was supposed to, he quickly lowers the figure to $10 million, then $5 million.

But how could a school in Jacksonville afford $15 million for a single drummer? It couldn't. I believe "Stanford" was established by this mysterious Jacksonville university for one purpose: to collect enough money to fund its marching band and attract the world's most talented musicians, including people like Big Boogie.

What we see as one of the most competitive and selective schools in the world is merely one giant illusion to fund the greatest marching band Jacksonville has ever seen, one $90 application fee at a time. Stay woke, my friends, and stay safe.

Application Question Ai false flag (please help)

Hi everybody,

I finished writing most of my PIQ's and out of curioisuty to check I checked all of them in multiple AI detectors. Gptzero, zerogpt, etc all said zero percent for all of them and so did Pangram for all of them but one of them Pangram said full 100 percent AI. That's literally just untrue, and thats the same one GPtzero and bunch of other ones say 0 percent for. I was wondering what to do about this PIQ, will my application get cancelled or something if i submit? Please help im stressing. Anyone know what the UC's do or detect and how, etc?

College Questions Woudl getting a B first sem senior year cause colleges to rescind me??

So I'm worried I'll end with a B in a class. This would be my second B in a hs class (one last year), and I was wondering wether t20's or instates would rescind me after receiving the mid-year report?? What effect does this have on ea, ed and rd schools I'm applying to?

Application Question I’m not sure how to include this in my application.

I was a fairly successful olympiad student and I graduated last year. Long story short, our regional department of education asked me to be a judge in an olympiad. I think it’d look pretty cool on my application profile but I’m not sure how I can include it. It’s only 3 days so it’s a bit weird listing it as an activity. Any ideas?

Application Question Which SoCal school for computer science?

Ik these are not the best schools but I am trying to find out which of these would be the best option for me just to get a good computer science experience. I am going the officer route in the Air Force so I don’t know if internships are my biggest concern. If you can rank them. I am transferring from a community college.

  1. Cal Poly Pomona
  2. CSULB
  3. CSUF
  4. CSULA

If you know any more I should try then let me know. My current gpa is a 3.5.

College Questions EDing to NYU but I'm a bit scared of not Receiving their NYU Promise

NYU Promise grants free tuition for families making under 100k. I'm worried because I heard a story from my councillor that he had a student, similar situation as me, who got in but did not receive aid and his situation went downhill from there. I do not want to think nor want that happen to me. We live in NYC, but my family owns a property, on a loan, in buffalo that's way more than 100k. Although my family total wages do not even reach near 100k, I'm just worried I won't receive aid and will fall into a dilema just like the story of the student.

Shitpost Wednesdays Rejected from my safety school (Caltech)

i dont understand what went wrong. i thought my 1590 SAT was enough, but clearly, they only take 1600s. i already bought the hoodie.

ive been doing nothing but crying into my AP Calculus BC textbook (got a 5 btw).

does anyone know the return policy for the caltech bookstore or should i just wear it ironically while going to my actual safety school (MIT)?

but honestly i dont REALLLLLY give a shit because pasadena is too sunny and hot anyway. rain builds character. caltech isn't even a REAL ivy league school. the only reason it got any recognition was because of the big bang theory.
