UPI ATM cardless cash withdrawal saved my life on the Kedarnath trek this week
Just got back from my Kedarnath trek 3 days ago and wanted to share a massive lifesaver moment that might help anyone else heading up there soon or in general travelling to the remote areas.
Where network bandwidth is too spotty for regular UPI payments, most vendors demand hard cash and I realized I was running dangerously low on cash.
Managed to find an SBI ATM down at Sonprayag, but then panic set in—I realized I had left all my physical debit cards back at home !
I was about to accept defeat until I noticed the screen had a "UPI Cash Withdrawal" option. Now, I know some of you have probably used this feature before, and I personally "had an idea" that it existed, but this was the first time I actually had to use it out of sheer necessity.
You just select the amount, it generates a QR code right there on the ATM screen, and you scan it using your phone's UPI app to authorize the withdrawal.
Mind blown. I got my cash instantly and didn't need a piece of plastic at all. It's a total game-changer for remote areas, though I know not everyone is aware it's an option yet!
