Zec Usecase
Can someone explain the main use case of ZEC? For example, XMR is widely associated with darknet transactions. What’s the primary real-world use case driving demand for ZEC?

Zcash is a privacy preserving digital currency. It is the first blockchain to leverage a novel technology called Zero-knowledge proofs to enable privacy and selective transparency. Zero-knowledge proofs allow transactions to be verified without revealing the sender, receiver or transaction amount. Selective disclosure features within Zcash allow a user to share some transaction details, for purposes of compliance or audit.
Development work on Zcash began in 2013 by Johns Hopkins professor Matthew Green and some of his graduate students. The development was completed by the for-profit Zerocoin Electric Coin Company, LLC, led by Zooko Wilcox, a Colorado-based computer security specialist and cypherpunk. Over time, this company rebranded and converted to a non-profit org now known as the Electric Coin Company (ECC). Zcash development now occurs with support from ECC employees, the Zcash Foundation, and many community members through community elected funding streams that originate from ongoing Zcash mining rewards.

Hi everyone,
I'm the founder of Zethora, a fair launch, CPU mineable Layer-1 built in Rust (forked from Kaspa's BlockDAG).
We have integrated Zcash's Orchard 0.16.0 for shielded transactions. The private sending logic is working on our devnet, and we have successfully tested and blocked double-spends and counterfeit attacks on a live seed node.
Before we enable private sending on a public testnet, we need an independent cryptographer to review the integration. We are specifically looking for a review of:
• Circuit usage (we use the fixed Orchard circuit)
• Note tree construction and anchor maturity
• Nullifier storage
• Turnstile supply accounting (we use a public balance ledger to ensure no inflation)
The honest situation:
We are entirely bootstrapped. We cannot pay standard industry audit rates ($10k+) right now. We are looking for someone who loves privacy tech and wants to help a new chain launch safely.
In exchange, we offer:
• Public credit in our Lightpaper and GitHub repo
• A named section in our privacy specs for the reviewer
• First testnet access
• A written commitment to pay retroactively if Zethora ever receives grants, donations, or ecosystem funding.
No token exists yet. No presale. Just code and specs. If you are interested, or know someone who does ZK/Orchard reviews, please comment or send me a DM.
(I will post the GitHub and spec links in the comments below so this post doesn't get caught by the spam filter).

With the progression of AI and changes in the crypto/blockchain landscape. What’s everyone’s view on tokens like Midnight and Zcash? These seem like tech with genuine use cases?

I am using Zkool, what do you think about it? It is very simple and functional. However, there are some bugs.
Do you think there are better ZEC wallets for Linux?

Im hearing people mentioning this, how the hacker got isentified using zcash, people saybits a honeypot and stuff. Before believing any of this, i want to ask here first

Saw that NU7 is now active on testnet.
Going from 75-second target blocks to 25 seconds sounds like a pretty nice improvement. I’m also curious about the shielded transaction limits they’re introducing, especially how they’ll affect wallet performance when the network gets busy.
Privacy is one thing, but making private transactions feel smooth enough for everyday use matters too.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out during testing.

The Winklevoss twins are setting up a Zcash ETF, and this means they will be buying metric tons of ZEC in the near future. They love Zcash, because they're smart.

THORChain’s treasury added ZEC to their trading pools about 45 minutes ago. Zcash is inevitably going to be on every exchange in the world
What happens when the world has rapid accessibility to privacy?

I’ve been trying to solo mine Z-cash for awhile hoping to get a old Z11, but I saw the prices rocket from $700 for a used Z11 back in July to $1700 for a used Z11 now🫠
So I ended up buying a used Z9 mini which gives me a 1 in 1700 chance per day of hitting a block, for 300W it’s not bad. I’m curious if anyone else is solo mining, I created the video above documenting the setup and the WiFi-mod I did if anyone wants to follow along.
Also curious if anyone else has any cool mods they’ve done to their Z9 mini?
I'm a member of the telegram group but now when I click the group it says, "This group can't be displayed because it violated local laws (Australia)."
Does anyone know what's up with this?

At CTRL, we've always been a huge fan of DATUM.
That's why today we are announcing we now have scripts for 1 command install and setup for nodes and datum gateways on a Linux server.
Just input your payout wallet, and the script sets up a node, syncs it, and sets up a gateway for you to point your miners to.
You'll also notice a new addition to the datum list: $ZEC
Over the past few weeks we've been working and testing #Zcash mining over Datum and are now releasing it to the world.
It’s technically still in beta, so please let us know if you spot any issues. We hope the Zcash community uses this to help decentralize their network.

This toolchain really seems a mess, even for crypto. I'm on linux and the wallet files are from an old windows drive from 2020. It has a password but I should be able to remember it. Seed phrase is lost. Zallet has an import wallet.dat function but the whole thing is very beta. I got it running in docker but I'm struggling and that feature is in beta. Am I missing something here? Should I just fire up the deprecated zcashd in offline mode and dump the seed phrase? What's the sanctioned approach here? I can find next to no info online. Thanks
