Addon Release / Update Action Combat Mode has been updated for Forever. Lots of new additions in v5.
This has been in development for close to 10 years, and at its core, transforms WoW from a traditional tab-targeting MMO into an action-combat game with Reticle Targeting, Click Casting, Mouse Look, and a ton of other features that help push the moment-to-moment gameplay of WoW towards that action-combat vision.
You can cycle through the GIFs in the gallery for visual explanations of all it does. It's grown into a very feature-rich addon over the years that I'm super proud of, and I'd love for you to give it a try!
You can get it here: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/combat-mode
Or from Wago: https://addons.wago.io/addons/combat-mode
Disclaimer: ACM is not vibe-coded slop. It's been in development since 2017, with the two leading devs - myself and thericgames - having a combined 30 years of Software Engineering experience under our belts. Some of you may also recognize my username from previous contributions to the addon dev community, going all the way back to 2016, like HeyBarbaruivaUI. But the nature of Software Engineering has indeed changed, and AI usage has become inevitable, as it speeds up the process so much, so AI has been applied responsibly to the project with proper supervision within the last year, with the bulk of its work being done on the GUI. Rest assured, all the core features and 95% of what's here have been in the addon long before AI got good at coding. And, like I said, 30+ years of SWE experience behind this project.

It's funny that this exists, as I've long wanted the exact opposite mod for Skyrim. I've always wanted a tab targeting Skyrim mod 😅

As a controller user, will this work alongside consoleport and/or the native controller UI in Forever?

Probably not. This has been developed with KBM usage in mind. Blizzard's gamepad implementation will most likely wrestle for control with this over some of the underlying tech that makes it possible.
I guess you could load it up and disable some stuff and see what happens? I haven't gotten the chance to try it so I can't say for certain what will/won't play nice with controllers.1

Ah that's completely understandable if a little sad. Are there any plans to eventually support controller? The controller support in forever has truly been a pleasent surprise with how well its thought out and implemented, so it would be a real God send to be able to have this addon with it

I do 100% plan on supporting it. I intend to play Forever with a controller, so I'll see what I can do there. In theory, with a little adjustment, I should be able to make it work. It all depends on how opinionated Blizzard is with whatever CVars they set for the controller. If they allow addons to modify those values while a controller is enabled, then the sky is the limit.

Yea after looking at the features I can see why, there are a few things I wish Consoleport would do similarly to this, and currently the official controller UI alpha is... well.. an alpha. And i don't have much faith its going to be functionally useful.
Sad thing though, I have wrist injury so required to use a controller, yet existing options currently lack reticle targeting similar to ESO, which seems to be what youre aiming for.

It's cool looking, for sure. I haven't been back on retail in a while, but after 20 years of the same this could shake up the way the game feels to play.
Thanks for the hard work either way. I can tell a lot of passion went into this. Upvoting and commenting so the algo-RNG gets more eyes get on it!

Neat design. Obviously, this is more solo play oriented, but it's still neat.

You'd be surprised how well it works.
With Target Lock, you can lock onto specific units, and the Lock Cycle keys prioritize casting units the same way tab-targeting/target nearest enemy does, so it's easy to pick them apart when they're too stacked to be individually targeted by aiming the crosshair/reticle.
Obviously, it will never be as precise or fast as clicking nameplates, but for a conversion mod to turn a 20-yo tab-targeting game into action combat, it works surprisingly well.

Grabbing this solely for the purpose of saving my wrist from my strain injury. Holding right click for too long makes it flare up so this is absolutely massive for me. Thank you!

this is cool but man the 2nd slide why would you ever want a nameplate to disappear like that

I have it set up so that it only shows nameplates for units I have targeted or that are in combat with me.
I hate running around with visible nameplates at all times. It's just visual clutter.

This seems like a major downgrade

To each their own I suppose.

Don't listen. This is really cool and I saw this addon before. I have friends who hate tab and this addon literally made them consider wow. Appreciate you updating for Forever!

I agree. Sick of people seeing “AI” and automatically writing shit off with no understanding of what goes into this kind of thing. Even if they don’t like the addon itself, if Linus Torvald is writing code for the Linux kernel with AI assistance it’s time to get over it. Vibe coding =/= using a LLM

I don't mind, honestly.
Like I said, the addon has been out there for almost a decade. I've seen comments like the one above a lot over the years. It discouraged me at first, but nowadays we've built a small user base that really likes the addon, so if they're happy, I'm happy.
I appreciate you, though!-2

Thanks for being honest about your AI usage though. I'll pass
