Addon Release / Update Made an addon that automatically finds who can craft anything you need (Linked Inn)
NOTE: Make sure to install version v1.1.1 or newer, there was a sound issue with the previous release.
Figured there had to be a better way than spamming trade every time I need a crafter. So I made an addon for it.
It quietly builds a list of crafters while you play. Every time someone links their profession in chat, it saves their whole recipe list, and you don't even have to click the link. It also picks people up when they link something they made or can make, when you see them crafting nearby, or when they're in your group or guild. In cities and inns it takes a quick look at everyone around you every few minutes, and if you play with friendly nameplates on it checks everyone you walk past. Other people running the addon also share their professions with each other automatically, so the list fills up pretty fast.
When you need something, type the item name and you see who can make it, when they were last online, and you can whisper them with one click. You can filter by skill level too, so you only see the people who are high enough. You can also open anyone's recipe book with all the reagents, whether they're online or not.
There's also a Work tab, kind of like a reverse AH. You post what you want made, which mats you bring and what you'll pay, and crafters with the addon who can make it get a pop-up. They hit "I can make it" and you get their name to whisper or invite.

It's brand new so there are probably some bugs. Let me know if something's off or if you have ideas.
AI Disclaimer: AI was used during the development of this Addon. I'm a Software Engineer by trade with a masters in CS. I handle software daily through the whole pipeline including security. Code is never written entirely by hand anymore, not a single piece of software is. A good engineer knows how to utilize AI efficiently and safely. Optimization is a key factor since AI can get ahead of itself and not consider performance.
Update: Due to Forever not actual being realmless (read more here) https://www.reddit.com/r/wowforever/comments/1wxo2m8/forever_isnt_fully_realmless_there_are_hidden/ there are some limitations in the addon finding all guildmembers. I'm working on a workaround for it.
Update2: Good news. I believe I'm onto an idea that utilizes the Battle.net friend system to cross realms. Won't work perfectly until we have enough users of Linked Inn though to reliably have enough bridges to cross.

Linked Inn: It’s not Mining and Smelting.
It’s proactively self-sourcing critical raw materials and transforming them into high-value metal outputs to unlock downstream supply chain synergies.

I bought a WoW Token today.
Some people call that buying gold.
I call it injecting foreign capital into Azeroth’s labor market.
Linked Inn turned every crafter I’d ever encountered into searchable labor, letting me post the work, find qualified crafters, and focus my energy where it belongs:
Extracting maximum leverage from my Visa.
Here’s what this taught me about leadership:
There are two kinds of people in business: those who spend countless hours on professional development, and those who spend $20 making them knife-fight over a crafting order.

I was just scrolling the comments to find LinkedIn ai slop posts. The addon needs a database of such bullshit to appear in the feed to completely bring corporate bullshit to the game.
And people need to constantly ghost each other. And post orders that are never intended to be fulfilled.
Optimizing your crafting page to get through automated crafter tracking system.

Looks cool! I hope people start adopting it, I’d be interested in seeing this ported to retail too, to be honest ^^

Sourcing exact item and streamlining logistic take a sharp organized approch.

Is there anything in place to recognize or filter out those who may have once had a profession logged into linked inn, but since dropped that profession?

That is fantastic feedback, putting it in the backlog to add to the next release.
Thank you!

You need the addon to be searchable? Or can I find people who don't have the addon?

u/GetShroomy 16d ago
The list is populated with any crafters, regardless if they have the addon or not.

Day 1 addon right here. Thanks for making it.
On a side note..
The fact that people even have to put ai disclaimers is ridiculous imo. Before ai was mainstream people were applauding automation, now it is vilified like a bunch of boomers.

Thank you for the really nice compliment man, makes me happy that people like it.

Eventually it will have pretty much one record per player on your mega realm, right? Isn't that a lot of memory that it takes up? Do you use some clever bitmaps per player/profession to keep it low?

I can enchant that for you! Why would I deceive you? I'm being so real with you right now. o_o

This is cool. Trying it on WoW forever. Sadly it still won't let me open my crafting panel when I have this active. Otherwise I'd leave it on so I can catch as many people as possible to see who has what :(

It's definitely an interaction with another Addon, going to try to slowly narrow it down. I'm just a bit focused on leveling.

Oh it should definitely let you open your crafting panel! Please do let me know if you find the cause!

It's strange. If I only have this addon enabled. It can work. So I was turning addons one by 1. First addon I turned on (RareScanner), made it not work at first. Then I was messing with how to get script errors, so I was trying some different console commands... then it started working?!
So I disabled RareScanner and just left linkedinn up... and it wouldnt work. I was not able to get any errors - so I installed BugGrabber and BugSack, enabled them, couldnt open the crafting menu (K). But no errors. II was confused, so I went into options of BugSack and changed a few options... then the panel started showing up! No errors still.
And on and on it goes. Something is breaking it somewhere, but no error, and that "break" will stay with the addon even after removing all other addons. Then even disabling it and reenabling it wont let it open the crafting panel. Then by some random strange reason it suddenly does again, and I cant really figure out what the common reason behind it is.

Sorry about that, it was an issue with Linked Inn actually. I have mostly fixed it for now in the latest release. It might still close it for you the first time you open it due to a race condition but I wanted to get something that works out quickly so people aren't impeded. Make sure you update it (Once its approved by CurseForges automatic review, it's v1.4.0)

Can we get this for retail too please?
1
u/GetShroomy 15d ago
A lot of people have asked for that. I am not a retail player myself so I'll have to set up testing first but I'll look into it tomorrow.

Imagine if there was a board where you could put craft requests together with reagents and then any crafter on the whole megaserver could craft you this thingy. All you'd need to do is to pay a small fee. That would make WoW Forever so unique! /s
