Murloc Monday Murloc Monday - ask your questions here

Aaaaaughibbrgubugbugrguburgle! RwlRwlRwlRwl!

That's murloc for "Welcome to Murloc Mondays" - where people can ask any type of question about WoW without getting strangled by a Death Knight.

Questions can range from what's new in Dragonflight, what class is OP, and how many Demons will it take to down Thrall?

Questions can come from brand new players, players returning, or veteran players who never got a chance to ask the right question.

Afraid of not getting an answer? Rest assured, we know that at least 90% of questions get answered!

You may want to look at /r/wownoob as well!

Here are some handy guides to start World of Warcraft as a brand new player or start Classic World of Warcraft as a brand new player.

Unless you played in the current expansion, pretty much everything has changed. If you're returning after a very long break, check out the Wowhead Returning Players Guides.

Does anyone know when we're supposed to get the dungeon catchup gear for this patch? Agmera still isn't selling anything this week.

What is a good class for a new or returning player to wow in wow forever? something that is forgiving and you can level while learning the game

Priest (taking a mix of Discipline Wanding/Shield Talents and Shadow Damage talents) is likely the easiest and safest levelling option. Especially for a new player. All of the starting zones have an Enchanting and Tailoring profession trainers/suppliers nearby which helps you get a wand as soon as you hit level 4, which makes the levelling process much more forgiving. The video below shows the process for undead, but it works for any starting zone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMtKWU6tw7Q

After that, craft any tailoring items that are upgrades as you loot cloth while levelling, disenchant extra gear and craft more wands/equipment as you level.

I've been gone for a year, got the itch and installed WoW. Leveled my previous Mistweaver main to 90, and now gearing. Even though I played through The War Within, so I know the gearing system, it is still super confusing as someone just looking inside the game.

Currently doing delves and will try to study up on dungeons so I can carry my 266 ilvl ass through some multiplayer content.

Can i skip the war of light and shadow campaign? Will i miss anything? Or just do the curse of ulatek

I think there’s a free pet and mount from the final quest. So I guess it depends on how you define “missing anything.”

Hey guys. I've come back to retail for the first time since legion launched. I've missed just about everything between then and now. I don't have the latest expansions yet, but are there any standout zones or stories that I should focus on that are really a cut above the rest?

Even in the "bad" expansions (notably BFA and Shadowlands) the zone storylines are generally good to great. The standouts of each expansion for me;

Legion: Suramar and Insurrection is a fantastic story. It's a little weird now because it was designed to unlock one week at a time; still good but the pacing is a bit off now.

BFA: Alliance Drustvar is top tier; brilliant dark atmospheric. The Alliance campaign finale is also excellent; Jaina's rescue is up there with the best. Shame the war campaign is garbage.

Shadowlands: All the leveling zones are good, but I vote for Revendreth; mostly because Denathrius is easily the best villain of the last 10 years. Sadly, everything after the opening is awful.

Dragonflight: WoW's back-to-basics after the convoluted mess of Shadowlands. Solid all round.

The War Within: Possibly the best expansion ever. The opening campaign delving deeper and deeper into the earth is incredible, Hallowfall in particular is breathtaking; followed by two more wins in Undercity and K'aresh. If you're going to play through an expansion in it's entirety, this is the one.

My standing on which xpac is "good" or not is completely different than Key's, but these are absolutely the right zone picks. Try not to get too hung up on what the community thinks is good or not, find something you jive with and if you dont like it, well, hop into another xpac!

If you do dragonflight I personally suggest holding off on Ohn'aran planes unless you really like centaurs. In my experience it was the slowest zone with the most drawn out "run all over" type quests, and not in a fun way. That said, if you play hunter there's a very cute new dog there waiting for you.

The allied race quests were originally quite tedious but now can be done so long as you have a level 40 char on whichever faction the race you like is. There will be an introductory quest that tells you about the race and why they are helping your faction. When you make them they are a free level 10 to start (so instant dungeon ques)

I found Maldraxxus' story campaign to be pretty terrible, with everything important happening off-screen or in dungeons that won't be touched while levelling. Agree with everything else here though.

Using EllesmereUI in WoWForever

I can't get rid of the action bar 1 bar art

Right clicking and checking hide bar art doesn't do anything

What do I do now?

1

u/OldGromm 1d ago

You can disable it via Edit Mode. This goes for both the gryphon/wyvern icon attached to the action bar, as well as the border and background of the action bar itself.

The Edit Mode button is in the main menu (ESC).

I've tried that

Saving/reloading doesn't do anything, the art is still there

EDIT: So far I have to disable the action bar part of EllesmereUI to get the art to go away

Just to have a quick confirmation, is Details currently unable to track buff uptimes?
I just switched to Aug and did my first run and I messed up my spell order a couple times, so I wanted to check what uptimes I had on EM and Prescience, but the option was grayed out. I don't think I'm missing any plugins I had when I played Aug the last time in TWW.

Due to the addon lockdown implemented in Midnight, Details can't track buff uptime in real time. The only way to analyze this is to upload logs after the fact.

How upset would the player base be if WoW ever got a massive graphical update? To be specific, if the graphics were enhanced to the level that brought them inline with a AAA game made today.

IMPORTANT: the style will match whatever your preferred style is (so if you like the more whimsical style of retail, the graphical update will still keep this look, likewise if you prefer the more grounded / gritty style of classic) ... I just want to know how bedded the player base is to WoW remaining a low-poly game that looks like it was made over two decades ago .... cos' obviously it was?!?!

considering the reception of cataclysm back in the days I don't think the players are gonna like it

I was running the Ulatek LFR today for the warlock gloves offset for my fire mage. I used a bonus roll and got a champion item? from lfr? is this a bug or intended? Kind of sad tbh, I hoped to get the fire version, not the fel one.

2

u/sandpigeon 8h ago

The bonus roll gives you what you would get from the vault for that boss. So it'll be one tier higher than what it naturally drops.

u/midniteburger 8h ago

I understand. Thank you for explaining.

Can anyone think of a fun pun name for a hunter that ends in -ixen? Rogue is Trixen, warlock is Afflixen, DH (alchemist) is Mixen, priest is Benedixen, etc. but I can't think of a fun one for my hunter . . .

1

u/SkwiddyCs 31m ago

Constrixen or Jurisdixen?

1

u/Notmiefault 11h ago edited 10h ago

Vixen is literally a female fox and pretty on theme for a Hunter, though it's almost certainly already taken without (may need to do V1xen or something)

Survixen if you're going melee.

You don't need to buy a whole game, and just need game time to try Forever, so I guess the question is really just whether or not you're willing to drop $15 for a month. That's one fast food trip you're probably giving up. Personally I would rather have access to a new video game for a month than go to McDonald's once. If you decide you love it and you want to play Skyborn, then you would need to buy a package that includes them. But I'm pretty sure you can play a tauren or a dwarf all the way to 60 indefinitely without spending a dime on anything other than game time.

As far as hotness goes, who knows? Maybe Blizzard drops the ball on supporting the game, maybe they do something really cool in Retail and that becomes the hotness, etc. I am confident that every version of WoW will continue to have enough population to be playable, if that's what you mean. But I don't think there will ever be a version that everyone is playing unless they go back to having just one version (which they won't).

I don't know maybe try it out when it releases

do yall who play retail like the look of gnomes? I'm just playing forever, but holy moly the high definition female gnomes look terrible, I kinda can't believe that there wasn't enough complaining to get them to be redone.

For WoW forever, are hunters going to scale better outside of pets and serpent sting? Those were the only two things I read were getting changes, I remember hunters scaling poorly with gear compared to other classes going into AQ40 and Naxx in the original. I don't want to roll a hunter if it's going to scale similarly esp. with lone wolf talent (no pet scaling)

1

u/SkwiddyCs 1d ago

We don't even know if AQ40 and Naxx are in forever, for what it's worth.

At this point, we genuinely have no idea how well classes are going to scale. We don't know that endgame tier sets will do for each spec/class or what the gear will look like. Blizzard has said that Mage/Lock/Hunter/Rogue will all be at least 5% ahead on DPS compared to hybrid classes like Paladin and Warrior though, so expect to be near the top of the meter if you're competent.

Yeah but how many Thralls would it take to defeat ALL the Demons?

-1

u/West_Gas_170 2d ago

thrall could probably solo all the demons tbh but he'd need an army of healers just to keep up with his dramatic yelling
