Discussion / Question The 10 bestselling games of 2026 so far

I'm surprised pokemon sold that well. I guess the people who make the argument that if people can buy the product they are less likely to pirate it are correct

Yes? A lot of people who pirate retro games do so because they are simply not available to buy. Pokémon has a nasty extra kicker on it, the game uses batteries to save data, so many old cartridges are out of juice, so people can’t just pick up and play their old red/blue games.

u/kilertree 1h ago
You can replace those batteries but the process to get a pokemon from earlier generations of games to modern games isn't really possible without bootlegging software and using fan made set ups.

Replacing the cartridge battery also deletes all save data. On GB(C) carts at least. I can't remember if they do on GBA carts or not. Been a minute since I had to do any swaps.

$20 for a very beloved game in one of the most popular franchises in history, on a system everyone owns and loves? I’m more surprised it only sold 4 million, actually

I didn't think pokopia was going to sell so much due to being a spin off. It Seem like cozy games do very well on the switch.

The craziest thing to me is that it’s one of the highest rated games that came out this year. It’s literally the highest rated Pokemon game of all time, and it’s just a lot of good casual fun.
Nintendo has been cooking this year ngl

They picked a good time to do this because the rest of the industry is on fire rn 😭

I think that game had a pretty good launch window. It was a new switch game when nothing else was out besides Resident Evil Requiem. Both of those games physical copies sold out.

u/PlantQuick 1h ago
I said it wasn't going to sell that much because pokemon spin off don't do so well.
I was very wrong, I didn't know there is a big market for cozy games on the switch

Mecha Chameleon sold over 20 Million copies.
So this list is trash

Yeah, that should definitely be on there! It’s in the actual list provided at the source, just not in the preview table for some reason

Can't wait to see the GTA numbers. 500 million copies by 1/1/27?

u/DrawingRings 0m ago
More like a billion copies. Two billion, if the game is any good. ONE HUNDRED BILLION maybe even

I wonder which of those cost the least to develop.

pokemon fr lg is genuinely 100% profit not even funny

u/PlantQuick 1h ago
I totally missed that one. That one aside I say it was Tomodachi life. Man, it's scary how much profit Nintendo and game freak make.

Costed? For real?

Not everyone is a native English speaker, you know

Plus, I just got off work. I'm cool with being corrected but half the time the grammar police are ass about it.

u/ZenGraphics_ 1h ago
i will say, Tomodachi life was definitely not cheap, given while small, 10 year development time would definitively add up

The comment was posted in English. Their reply was posted in English. Probably safe to assume English is their primary language.

Really impressed how successful Pearl Abyss has been with their first ever single player game. They have made history in South Korea, with Crimson Desert being the best selling and fastest-selling single player Korean game in only 5 months. Can't wait for the DLC next week!

Good for them! The devs deserve massive props for the amount of work they've put in!

What is this source? I would think Palworld would be up here
4
u/FernandoRocker 1h ago
Palworld is not relevant anymore. Just the meme of the week.
1
u/DistinctZucchini153 23m ago
It's player count is still pretty high also no reported sales this year.
1
u/FrierenKingSimp 1h ago
I believe Palworld hasn’t reported any sales specifically for this year, which is why it’s not on the list
1
u/ZeffoLyou 1h ago
That would makes sense. Forza horizon 6 sold 8 million copies. I'm not trying to argue I'm just trying to understand how this list works if it's missing games with more copies sold then some on here
1
u/FrierenKingSimp 1h ago
I believe there is no official total for FH6 sales provided by any primary source, only unreliable estimates by trackers like Alinea
0
u/armorlol 1h ago
Are these extrapolated numbers? How are they 4,5,6,8 million exactly?
1
u/FrierenKingSimp 1h ago
Officially reported numbers
0
u/armorlol 1h ago
They are underreported though because of old info. Subnautica 2 sold 5 mil by June. I bet it’s at least 6.5 or 7m now.
1
u/FrierenKingSimp 1h ago
Yeah but they haven’t reported any update since so there’s no data to base any increment off of

4 Million idiots buying a 20 year old game even a budget phone can download. Hell, even your average photo is almost as big as that game.

It’s almost like normal people don’t want to deal with the hassle of emulation unlike Reddit nerds, and don’t mind paying the equivalent of a night out on a game they know they’ll love
-2
u/Horror_Post6822 54m ago
lol you act as if Emulating a GBA game is some herculean task. It is dead brain simple.
1
u/FrierenKingSimp 35m ago
Yes, believe it or not, people who don't spend their hours complaining about games on the internet find wrangling with emulation a hassle

Wondering how much oot remake and gta 6 will sell.
Guessing 6-8m for oot remake and something like 20-30m for gta 6 by the end of the year.
