We've been spared whatever nonsense the next mass effect was going to be

You goobers can celebrate all you want, I really wanted a new mass effect. This sucks.

After 3 failures in a row there is zero chance that the next Mass Effect would have been good, especially when Bioware wanted to cash in on the Nostalgia by making it a sequel to the original trilogy.

they already made Andromeda

And I wanted another Dragon Age. I got Failguard instead.

I would have prefered new-Bioware to not do anything.

You wanted from the studio that did ME2, not the one that did Veilgard and lost millions

You didn't want it how it would have been written.

Couldn't be worse than Dick Ryder.

After Veilguard? It absolutely could have been.

The bioware that brought us so many great games died a long time ago. It's just a skin suit with no talent or vision at this point and any new games they would have made probably would have been disappointing at best.

Maybe make a good game in the last like what 10 years?

To be fair when was that last gta game? Games simply take too long to make.

U do realize we had Red Dead 2 in 2018 right?

I’d settle if they just released the story as a book. Give us something rather than nothing at all.

Nah. There was no need for Mass Effect Gay.

Jesus fucking Christ you closet cases and your compulsive fixation was boring as fuck YEARS ago

6

u/Mad_For_Nothing 6h ago

Almost as boring as Dragon Age the Veilguard.

How did that go for this company and the weirdos who made the game?

Oh, right.

There was just as much gay in the first game. You people are complete closet cases.

But it was done with passion and not shoehorned.

The problems with the shoehorned writing in Veilguard is that it was indicative of the mindset of the writers and developers and leads of the game:

In that they wanted to push a message first, rather than ensure the most authentic DA experience for the player. So it became watered down and weak and inoffensive and preachy, just like the talentless writers who wrote the characters.

They same would be said if it was any other blatant shoehorned ideology. If someone was putting blatant Nazi propaganda, people would also be outraged.

Ya know what? Fair. I agree.

That being said, maybe choose a better way of phrasing that in the future. Still far too many wokescolds out there, trying to pretend its the woke thats the cause of games being bad and not the lack of passion or craft.

I’m glad you can at least admit publicly you like passionate gay content, that’s a huge step forward

USA is slaughtering their own video games business - by their own wish

I mean that is what happens when you release bad games

“If anyone finds this place, Hells, let alone this recording. Please: hear our Message and Listen to what we have to say, and pass onto You:” “We fought, we tried, all. We struggled, we hoped. …we still hold out Hope. And here’s a last word for those who can hear it, and will journey onwards towards distant Stars: Keelah si'yah.”

Recording End. Beginning Looped Message:

“If anyone finds this place, Hells, let alone this recording. Please: hear our Message and Listen to what we have to say, and pass onto You…”

Keelah si'yah

Say it with me

Being bought out by a larger studio just gets you into massive troubles long term

14

u/Lihisss 7h ago

EA bought them 19 years ago.

11

u/CozyAdonite 7h ago

That's right about when they released their last good game

6

u/Life_Bet8956 7h ago

And coincidentally that's when things started going downhill

And while the first Mass Effect and Dragon Age were probably made largely free of EA, Mass Effect 2 was not. Also, many of the problems in later games would not have been due to EA interference. EA didn't force BioWare to murder the Mass Effect franchise in Mass Effect 3. EA didn't create the miserable writing for Veilguard.

u/MXC_Vic_Romano 7h ago

BioWare was given lots of creative freedom and apparently couldn't manage itself effectively. Who knows if the outcome would have been different, but EA should have taken a firmer hand with them instead of the hands-off approach they did.

Didnt EA try to make veilguard a live service game... then scrapped that idea and made bioware scramble to turn it back into a stitched together single player experience?

1

u/TheWorclown 4h ago

That was Inquisition, and it was originally conceived as an MMO. You can still see leftovers of that concept in the game flow and such.

This sucks, yeah I know Bioware is not the same one that made all the great games, still definitely not worth celebrating. I just hope all this crazy buying and closing down studios creates some good. I think now we are going to see studios realize it is not worth being bought by large companies. I feel like companies like EA are so sterile with their games anymore, and so these awesome studios that take big swings, are forced to play it safe. And then when they do and no one likes playing the bland same AAA game, the small studio gets blamed and shuttered.

Here is hoping we see the rise of AA games that force competition and maybe have AAA games actually try to make a good game instead of throw money at the problem.

Still never thought I would see the day Bioware would be closed down. Dragon Age was one of the games that made them big alongside Baldur's gate and Mass effect, and 2 of those series had games that were also seemingly it's death knell. It really shows that newer talent lacks some of the story telling chops of the old guard. Not wholly their fault since ballooning budgets and making video games a profit is more important than passion, but still.

Good

This will probably be bungie next

These companies need to start getting the correct priorities at the top of the list before wasting millions

Ebenezer Scrooge-ass take

7

u/Majestic_Balance1887 7h ago

No it's just reality setting in. They became disconnected, stopped making product people wanted and they went under. That's the reality of business.

Its a shame cause its 400 people losing their jobs, I dunno whats up with that, like, there was a notorious disconnect between what the studio was doing and what the fans wanted. We saw that with Andromeda. We saw that with Veilguard. And i cant help to feel its a shame cause they had the right ingredients, they had the right IPs, just didnt know what to do with them.

Cant say its unexpected. its been a long time since their last actual good and successful release, at this point they most've been costing EA a ton of money. I can only assume that new Mass Effect game was not turning out how they were hoping.

1

u/kvikklunsjrevolver 3h ago

Maybe they had the right ingredients, but they had the wrong people trying to make something with them.

1

u/TrickNatural 2h ago

Indubitably

1

u/Gloomy_Ad_2185 6h ago

Sorry to them but their recent games have been shit and they have just been a good name for years.

Anyone missing bioware should make sure to play star wars zero company. Its a similar vibe.

EA cemetery keeps on expanding

1

u/Extreme_Cockroach_99 5h ago

not that surprising when all their latest games have done really poorly.

1

u/KittenDecomposer96 4h ago

Good riddance, it hasn't made a good game in 12 years.

1

u/PuG3_14 1h ago

Good. Current Bioware aint it

1

u/Lihisss 7h ago

Good riddance. The company was dead ages ago.
