Early development? The announcement came, what, six years ago?

Meaning it was in development hell and that we avoided a disappointment.

This. I did not have high hopes based on what BioWare had become.

A studio is not a name, its a people and the new people just did not have that magic old BioWare had at all.

I dont even think its that like bioware has always been woke.

The difference is the writing and just likable characters.

Anthem was woke? That was the beginning of the end for the studio.

I unfortunately agree. EA wants to make money, and Mass Effect is one of the most highly regarded video game IPs out there. They would not have shut down BioWare if they were working on something amazing. I can guarantee you this shutdown happened after BioWare was told to show their progress, and EA probably decided at that point the game really had no chance of being a financial success. Either it was still in development hell, or it was shaping up to be an Anthem/Andromeda/Veilguard style mess.

Agreed. EA is just cutting their losses at this point. NGL I'm a little surprised that they didn't pull the plug on BioWare sooner.

Maybe somewhat, but a lot of that time was the team being taken away from ME to work on Veilguard. It may have been announced six years ago, but for the longest time nobody was working on it.

After Veilguard sold poorly BioWare was gutted and a small team worked on Mass Effect. I’m guessing the idea was that if they got a good prototype going the studio would be scaled up again, or they would hire a lot outsourced talent.
