I hope someone buys the Mass Effect and Dragon Age IPs. A studio that knows what they are doing might be able to revive these franchises with some great games, or even remakes.

Looking at you, Larian.

Probably not going to happen. It's not woth the investment. And not because these franchises are bad/dead, but rather because they'd want ridiculous sums for turning them over. Taking them to the grave at least benefits those who own the franchises with the last bit of free money they make off of existing deals etc. Greed prevails.

Why would someone want that? The game were big, but not big enough to justify spending money on that. Easier to make your own IP.

I mean, Larian did the same thing with Baldurs Gate before. And BG was a Bioware franchise as well.

Larian didn't buy the IP, and it was never Bioware's. Wizards of the Coast owns Baldur's Gate, and they have different incentives for the franchise than what EA now has with Bioware's franchises.

You comparing one of the most popular fantasy and tabletop franchizes to the video game that had 3 more or less good instances and one complete failure. They are not the same. And even Larian does not want to continue with BG, because most of good writers want to tell their own stories about their own universes.

I don't think Larian cares much about the relevance of a franchise. Yes DND is the most popular tabletop franchise, but tabletop itself is very niche. Baldurs Gate was popular... end of the 90s. Before Larian announced BG3, it's not that the whole world demanded another BG game.

And the end it comes down to the question: Is Larian up for Dragon Age? Because this is what Swen Vincke is talking about all the time: They want to develope games the way they want to play them themselves. And since BG3 deeply oriented themselves towards Dragon Age Origins in the making of BG3, there is a chance they have some Dragon Age fans in the team that would love to revive the franchise.

I don't say it will happen definitely, or in the near future. But there is hope.

They literally chose to make it because it would push their studio to more customers. FR is massive franchize, one of the most massive ones, and denying it is just silly. Divinity OS were very simillar to it, but neither of those 2 games did as well as BG3. And now, when they have the attention, they go back to their own stuff.

Owlcat would be more suiting for taking over franchize, since they don't work on original IP's at all. But not sure if they would be interested, they have bigger ones to work on already.

No one is going to buy them. Hell would freeze over before EA would accept anything less than at least 100mil, probably much more. Starting the development of a new game a hundred/hundreds of millions in the red would be insane.

I don't agree at all, honestly. Baldurs Gate 3 felt more like Dragon Age Origins than any other Dragon Age game did. If anyone could revive Dragon Age, it was Larian.

Exactly. Felt more like DAO than any other dragon age game in terms of gameplay, characters, and story-telling.

This is an insane take considering their history lol

The only thing they have never implemented is companion romance that does not involve the PC.

But that’s also because canonically their games have taken place within a very short amount of time.

The entirety of BG3 only takes a few days. It would be absurd to have an entire group of certifiable freaks finding partners during that span of time.

But otherwise BG3 blows other CRPGs out of the water in quality RP.
