EA just made it very fucking easy to never buy one of their games again, no skin off of my nose, they ain’t gonna get a single penny from me again

Simplest gaming choice out there

11

u/HitandRyan 7h ago

I haven’t bought an EA game since 2012 and I don’t feel like I’ve missed much. In fact, it gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment.

1

u/musclenugget92 6h ago

I havent felt compelled to play anything under EA besides Apex legends in the past 12-14 years. I dont really feel bad for Bioware as they've consistently missed on their products...and not even in ways that make sense.

2

u/HitandRyan 6h ago

The BioWare people who made the games we like are long gone. That’s what EA does. They run a golden goose slaughterhouse so shareholders can eat golden goose meat.

1

u/silasmousehold 6h ago

I had actually forgotten Bioware existed.

I think you guys are either uninformed or being unfair.

EA has quite a few good recent games. Battlefield 6 and the Star Wars games for example.

EA is massive company. They're like Tencent where their business model is to buy existing video game companies as investments. It's not really EA making all of these games.

Like Grinding Gear Games is owned by Tencent but no one would be correct to say that Tencent is making Path of Exile. Grinding Gear Games is making Path of Exile and Tencent just happens to own GGG.

u/HitandRyan 4h ago

I have no interest in Brownian Motion multiplayer shooters or their tacked-on rail shooter single player campaigns.

10

u/cchari 7h ago

Apart from EA Sports games, they don’t have much else. For me, stop buying games from them isn’t a difficult decision at all.

The last one I bought was NFS Unbound, and even that series seem to be dead.

2

u/Popular_Equipment_85 7h ago

Fifa fans truly carry their entire gaming division lol

2

u/Illustrious_Meat2987 7h ago

True. I've accidentally boycotted them for about a decade now because of this

1

u/kaytin911 7h ago

Why tf do you buy the same sports game every year?

1

u/Pudddddin 3h ago

People hope that there will be changes to mechanics, new changes to game modes, etc I think

I stopped buying them years ago, eventually they all show up on gamepass or EA play anyway

1

u/elalex1999 6h ago

Theyre making an iron man game that looks cool and the Star Wars Jedi series is pretty good. Also hazelight’s games are great except technically they only publish their games.

1

u/Danish-Dynamite77 4h ago

I don't even remember the last EA game I bought. Most be a decade ago..

1

u/bluedragggon3 3h ago

They've got the Jedi series. And if Iron Man turns out to be good, I'll probably buy it. But those aren't like unique EA games. And I fully expect Respawn's next game or two after the third Jedi game to be their last purely because EA will see the third and think, "well why do we have to end it" or "well now we don't have Star Wars so let's cut the budget paper thin." Then tell them to make a live service game that promises them to make zillions of dollars. A zillion less is unnacceptable.

u/AS0116 5h ago

I really hate that there will always be loads of people who buy madden, the ncaa games and fifa or eafc or whatever its called now, so EA will never stop being some of the biggest pricks in the industry

2

u/TheSqueeman 5h ago

Completely agree

1

u/AgentBlackwell 5h ago

Yeah those type of low IQ games will eventually run out of player bases as costs continue to increase. The cycle there isn’t endless

1

u/AS0116 5h ago

Nah i really doubt it, its like cod, even if the game quality goes down and costs go up, people will 100% buy it. There's a bunch of kids that play them as well, and they always will, so the number of new players will probably outweigh the people that stop

1

u/breakandjog 4h ago

They absolutely will, unlike fictional games, sports games have real life counterparts, people don’t just buy them because they are fans of the franchise, it’s because they are fans of the sport attached to said franchise. FIFA(FC) is the only one with any real competition or at least other options. There’s isn’t another choice for NFL or NCAA football. Same with 2k and the NBA.

1

u/Pudddddin 3h ago

I don't think so, the most popular mode in those games is the Ultimate Team modes that essentially require mtx

The largest portion of people who play these games end up paying waaaaay more than they originally paid for just the game as it is already

14

u/Shymu1 7h ago

I stopped buying games from EA when they killed Dead Space

4

u/Zer0Cool89 7h ago

i stopped buy EA games when i got kingdoms of amalar on pc and then had to download a crack to actually play the game. going on 14 years now since ive touched anything with ea on it and its been great.

2

u/Vast_Addition5633 6h ago

Silly me, I bought KoA thinking they'd add some quality of life improvements. I'm an idiot, clearly.

1

u/A_FABULOUS_PLUM 2h ago

Simcity 2013 for me. God what a sad example of a ‘city builder’

13

u/saxonturner 7h ago

BioWare enjoyed more freedom to make their games than any other EA studio, them closing is on BioWare, not EA. Just look at the last games they have released.

2

u/Thestral84 7h ago

No, them closing is on the vultures in Saudi Arabia and the Kushners.

10

u/na1led_1t 7h ago

If you owned EA wouldn't you close the studio whos last good game was DA:Inquisition in 2014? Especially after they were given the opportunity to follow it up 12 years later and fell short, I don't like EA anymore than the next guy but this was the correct thing to do.

3

u/Thestral84 6h ago

No, it wasn't. Not because of any quality or lack thereof by Bioware specifically. EA was saddled with an absurd $18 billion debt that they never incurred, but was put on them by private equity scum. I've hated EA for 20 years now, but any decision as a result of this kind of absurd buyout clause should be opposed. It's one of the very worst parts of private venture capitalism and anything that comes out of it is wrong.

1

u/ArdenWaterhoselicker 3h ago

You're arguing with emotionally and mentally stunted Redditors™. There's no winning, save your energy for something better.

2

u/saxonturner 3h ago

BioWare haven’t delivered a passable game since Inquisition, that was 2014, 12 years of shit and you blame the people that have been in charge for only a year?

1

u/UtkuOfficial 2h ago

Don't you know? Video game developers deserve infinite paydays even if they make pure shit for a decade.

Look at how much hate Xbox got for shutting down Ninja Theory when the devs made 1 game in a decade that sold like 10k copies.

1

u/Leroyp331 6h ago

I don't think there is an appreciation that when you try new things some of them will fail.

5

u/Spokker 6h ago

You can't try too many new things when the development and marketing budget is $250 million.

1

u/Leroyp331 6h ago

I am just saying I appreciate them not just doing the same thing over and over.

2

u/Hot-Guard-9119 3h ago

Your appreciation led to this closure.

-1

u/Leroyp331 3h ago

Look up private equity and learn yourself something little boy

2

u/Hot-Guard-9119 1h ago

Jedi FO and Survivor were released under the same private equity and were successful. Learn yourself something little boy

1

u/Leroyp331 1h ago

So this is the problem. You don't understand what you are talking about. Bioware produced 1 game that actually lost money... Before private equity owned gaming... one game not making money was a normal thing for developers. It was accounted for. That sometimes led to big swings that created and defined genre.

Maybe it was a game like half life or even Nintendo with Zelda or any number of bites at the apple that also crashed and burned.

It was a part of the gaming industry. This is a great company that made great games that's folded because they one game lose money and 2 fail to meet corp expectations. They made money just not enough... so they fold the shop.

They don't stop making those games. They say the whole thing comes down. They strip it and sell for parts.

The next big job all those game developers get they shoot for solid remakes and basic concepts they believe will succeed.

And we get vanilla bullshit games

1

u/therealultraddtd 4h ago

Most of the blame is on EA with the forced live service shit. They took a storied single player developer and made them put multiplayer in everything. Anthem was not the type of game the studio really wanted to make, or were any good at making.

Same with Dragon Age. Mismanagement and live service expectations notoriously caused the game to restart several times. I get why people don’t care for Veilguard, but it’s a testament to that team that they were able to cobble together something coherent (and surprisingly technically sound) after all the turn over and changes coming down from the top.

1

u/nonlethaldosage 1h ago

casey hudson a bioware dev is the one who pitched the multiplayer live action anthem to ea

3

u/Pitiful_Option_108 6h ago

This is a major part of it. Like I get as a company you want say in the development of a product but BioWare is known for RPGs. Now Anthem had a concept of an idea but sadly never got the space the breathe. I blame these publishers for chasing the live service trend and it honestly hurt the gaming industry for the worse.

3

u/IgnatiusRileyFreeman 6h ago

It's okay, ball gamers line up, every year, to ensure EA gets to continuously do this

2

u/Bamboopanda101 7h ago

Ever since they required an EA account for their games i haven’t bought a game from them since.

I think the last time i ever bought was when sims 3 was first released.

2

u/dontcallmenpc 4h ago

BF6 was my last straw with EA.

Played beta. Preordered. Launch day, played for 7 hours. Next day, I was banned for "exploits/abuse". I am an Unc gamer. I do not cheat or use exploits. I never have. I don't communicate with others and I do not shit talk.

I reached out to EA support. Immediate response was that the ban would maintain. So I appealed. Denied, but they suddenly changed the reason to cheating? I then found another avenue to request appeal. Reached out. Told them to feel 100% free to review my 21 year old steam account (0 flags on account, 0 bans) and my EA account (again, 0 flags). I even offered to let someone remote to my device and review because I DO have software development tools and thought perhaps this was a false positive situation and that I could help out others in the same situation while recovering my game. I was willing to let them inventory my computer.

EA sent request to DICE. Developers maintained that their AI anticheat couldn't possibly incorrect...ok bud, sure, because we all know AI is never wrong.

I'm petty and I have money. I bought the game again after getting Steam to refund me, but bought it through EA's app.

Did not receive a ban after another 6 hours of play...sooooo...all of a sudden everything is fine? tf?

Uninstalled, requested a refund again and after arguing a lot and laying out this entire chain of events to them, and letting them know that they are absolute fuckfaces, I got my money back. Mind you, I was on the EA forums with others experiencing similar (ofc some likely were cheating but after my experience, I really doubt everyone was)

But at that point, I knew that they would just refuse to actually provide support when their playerbase needed it. I had played every BF game created.

I later received an email that they wanted to review the case - I deleted the email. Fuck them.

I will never buy another EA game, nor a BF game ever again. I now actively avoid any studios tied to EA.

EA needs to be disassembled entirely. It's too big to give two shits about its consumers anymore, and creates a huge gap between the devs who might actually care and the publisher who does not care at all.

2

u/TrulyNotYours 1h ago

Ever since they bought Westwood, the game in question Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge and ruined the franchise I haven't bought anything EA related.

2

u/ShaolinFantastic13 7h ago

Ill play devils advocate EA sucks, but what we know about Anthem is Bioware dug their own grave they are horribly mismanaged.

1

u/ginsinuk 7h ago

You're only realising this now?!

1

u/marirest 7h ago

I don't know why they don't just spin them off or something

1

u/TheSqueeman 7h ago

I think there is a higher then 0% chance that another studio picks them up, if for no other reason then the pedigree that BioWare do have, even with their past issues

1

u/Spokker 6h ago

You not buying any of their games is still preferable to keeping Bioware open and actually losing millions of dollars. And there are plenty still buying EA games. Reddit is not real life.

1

u/Hadrian23 6h ago

Blows my mind how FIFA makes them so much fucking $$$
I just don't understand it.

1

u/ghostpicnic 6h ago

Highly doubt you were buying EA games anytime in the recent past anyways lol

1

u/AutomaticClock7810 6h ago

Don't worry, their annual football simulator will rake in billions every year until the bitter heat death of the universe. And that's what matters to them. Making the most money, preferably without risk investment.

1

u/Arolux 3h ago

It was sold to the Saudis anyway so chances are it will go to shit anyway. Probably one of the big reasons this happened, the old board seemed okay with giving BioWare one last chance.

1

u/Aderadakt 7h ago

You're doing the gamer meme. Remembering all those people who say they boycotting Blizzard and just buy their next product anyway. Or the recent Playstation boycott l

1

u/TheSqueeman 7h ago edited 7h ago

Unlike those however I’ve always personally stood by not engaging in something, I haven’t drank caffeine in 15 years because it was fucking me up as a personal example and that was as simple as just stopping. it’s gonna be easy as shit to not buy EA’s games

1

u/southernfirefly13 7h ago

What a wild thing to compare not drinking caffeine to “I’m not like other people”

0

u/TheSqueeman 7h ago

It’s all because it’s a mindset, if you are easily swayed by FOMO or needing to have something then that’s a mindset that someone becomes a slave too, it’s very easy to just say no, just like I’m going to do to EA games

0

u/Caterpillar_Cute 7h ago

Good grief…

0

u/Ok-Woodpecker4734 7h ago

I hate EA as much as the next guy but its not like Bioware has put out good games in ages

0

u/Stunning-Bar125 7h ago

Lol. Over bioware? Seriously? They haven't made a game worth talking about in almost 12 years. The writing has been on the wall for a while now. You can dislike EA all you want but this is a weird reason to put your foot down and decide you won't buy anything they publish- which probably won't hurt anyone except the other studios like bioware that need to make games that sell

0

u/Small_Market_8009 6h ago

EA is one of the biggest publishers on Earth. They’ll be fine.

0

u/MasterOfTime14 6h ago

How many pennies did they get out of you anyway? Are you football addicted European because that's where their momey is coming from.

0

u/EnnuiYoshi 3h ago

I mean you can do that but literally the sports game save EA cause they have a dedicated fan base. You can get mad but they probably won’t know or care unfortunately. BioWare situation sucks but they did it to themselves veilguard flopped hard and if it was successful they wouldn’t be shutdown

0

u/QuietSuper8814 2h ago

I hate to say it, but this isn't entirely EA's fault. Yes EA had ideas about what they wanted their game to be, but development direction with veilguard was pretty specific. Madden and FIFA arent loaded to the brim with weird political feel good stuff. As sad as I am to see a legendary studio, one that defined my tastes while i was still a kid, finally die, it isn't entirely the publisher's fault.

0

u/DALESR4EVER124 2h ago

Why did you and all these other people complaining not buy more Bioware games, then? If ya'll did, they wouldn't be closing them up..

0

u/External-Duck-9130 2h ago

This has been said so many times at different points in history that it's comical at this point.

0

u/darthmcdarthface 1h ago

You are taking things way too personally. BioWare has been terrible for a long time with massively disastrous games. They had a longer leash than most. EA gave them plenty of opportunities which they did nothing with. Multiple flops one after another.
