Funny We all know who's actually going to win November

Is this the first time a movie tie-in game has gotten a remaster? I know some have rereleased before, but I’ve never seen a full remaster

Toy story 3 remaster just came out

I just got the collection on Switch 2, but is that a remastered or a “complete edition rerelease”?

Yes and no. The Thing (2005) got a remaster but it's not directly based on the 1982 film but rather a canonical sequel and epilogue. John Carpenter himself endorsed it.

Closest I can think of is the ports of King Kong and The Godfather from Xbox to Xbox 360 looking better.

That godfather game was so much fun. I loved that the fist fighting was tied to the left and right stick/triggers it felt so good.
I always boxed the doctor first thing when youd wake up im the hospital after a game over lmao

Those are ports though which is completely different than a straight up remaster. And King Kong on 360 actually looks worse than the PS2 counterpart if you can believe that. The 360 version is technically more advance but the new rendering is poorly execute. The lighting is a prime example of this.

I was thinking about that but I don’t know if any of the games specifically based on the movies ever got a remaster.

Does SpongeBob battle for bikini bottom count? It's not the movie tie-in game but it's still for the show

u/gorkboss5 7h ago
I would say that counts, I should’ve said movie/tv. For me Shrek 2 is so jarring because it’s a game specifically related to one movie.

People forget that GTA is up against what’s been known as the greatest and most influential game ever, which is now being upgraded with modern gameplay features. Can’t wait to use the new photo mode with Donkey

They also forget that Rockstar is a completely different company now. They had a mass exodus shortly after RDR2; key staff that are responsible for Rockstar success and innovation are no longer there. Dan Houser was the last to leave in 2020

A mass exodus is a stretch, several of the big key players at rockstar still work there and have worked their since gta 3

A significant chunk of staff left Rockstar including long time devs, coders, directors, writers, sound engineers, financial accountants, you name it. It's estimated that up to 70% of staff left since RDR2

Theres 4000 people working on gta 6 since rdr2, where do you even get your numbers

Gta V literally sold an order of magnitude more copies than all versions of oot combined up to this point. I’m not a big fan of the series but it’s pretty much guaranteed to outsell zelda by a wide margin

A remaster of Shrek 2? A remaster of the game I played on the PS2 after the movie release?! I had no idea, how unexpected.

Am I missing something? Is Shrek 2 a famously good movie tie in game that passed me by or is this all an in joke that I’m not aware of?

If I had to wager a guess as a chronically online person:
You're seeing the confluence of a bunch of stuff.
1 - Shrek is an eternal meme (and love and life) 2 - Remasters are quite popular in the industry and topical 3 - GTA is coming out in November, so this game competing with that is hilarious
Honestly, 10/10 meme by the studio

This has felt like the kind of timeline where Shrek 2 gets remastered before Escape from Butcher Bay for a while tbh.
