So now, consoles are a 800€ hub for downloading drm locked games. Great. Great great great.

No more used market, no more preservation. Nada.

edit: STOP WITH GAMESTOP omg 😂 go on consumer to consumer platforms instead. If you're in Europe, download Vinted, it's not just to buy cute skirts.

It's pretty crazy how the announcement adds at the end "For important updates on PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita announced today, please click here." and then they're announcing the PS3/Vita digital stores are closing. So switch to digital and eventually they'll close that down too.

So really our only option to find peace now is to explore the seas. Its a pirates life for me!

u/xdoble7x Jul 01 '26

Hard to do on consoles lately

77

u/Plus_Term_7584 Jul 01 '26

And it's difficult to build a pc with AI eating up the parts. Coincidence, or a planned move?

Hmm......

45

u/guarddog33 Jul 01 '26

Yeah even if AI takes a downward trend (God I hope it does sometime) these huge companies still have multi-year contracts for parts, we're looking at easily 5-10 years before the PC market averages out again. And even then we all know prices won't drop

Get ready for 1K consoles and 3K entry level PCs everyone. The future is now

At least TVs are a low low low price of $79.99!

21

u/DataMin3r Jul 01 '26

Hell yeah 50" tv, 4k resolution, and only $128/mo to use the streaming apps it's locked to.

8

u/Careless_Analyst_220 Jul 01 '26

It’s crazy there’s a 75 inch on sale for like 400 bucks where I live.

2

u/Youpunyhumans Jul 01 '26

I think mine is just a 50 inch, but it was only 250 bucks... I was blown away.

When I was a teen, a TV that size in plain old 1080p would have been thousands.

1

u/Drong0bones Jul 01 '26

Yes whilst everything else has gotten so expensive TVs are so cheap in 2026. I wonder why?

1

u/Youpunyhumans Jul 01 '26

Well... because TVs generate data, which they then sell to advertisers, and they also take a cut of what you pay for streaming services.

Apparently, they sell some TVs at a loss because they will make their money anyway. Probably more profitable to make sure everyone can have a TV they can mine for data than to sell the TVs themselves for a profit.

That's the thing - I guarantee the picture quality isn't as good as other TVs even if both are LED TVs.

Hear me out, as someone who has a trained eye to work with how colors are supposed to be rendered properly, I can tell you from experience that a good TV is that much better because it's able to display reds more accurately than the 75 inch that's 400.

I think ignorance is bliss when it comes to that honestly.

My tv can stream games shockingly well with no console at all.

1

u/Accurate-Coffee-6043 Jul 01 '26

Cheap because they pump them full of ads.

-1

u/Plus_Term_7584 Jul 01 '26

Those cheap Roku TVs? They're being bought out by Fox News.

One wonders what devious propaganda they've got up their sleeves for the built-in ads.

2

u/Alternative_Ender Jul 01 '26

You take TVs way too seriously and I didn't know that was possible

8

u/Logical_Comparison28 Jul 01 '26

”Get ready”?

My local store already sells PS5 Pros at 949€… 😒

1

u/guarddog33 Jul 01 '26

Tbf the pro is retailed at much higher than the base model. Imagine the base version, on release, ps5 digital going for 1K. That's a $400-500

3

u/Logical_Comparison28 Jul 01 '26

Yeah,

According to my calculator’s conversion, 949 is 1080,74 USD. Interesting.

Same store does have a few earlier PS5s, I don’t recall their prices, I was only interested in Pro’s as I was hoping to get one for my birthday later this year…

2

u/guarddog33 Jul 01 '26

Yeah my local Walmart has them for $1080, I think that's meant to be the retail price currently

1

u/Logical_Comparison28 Jul 01 '26

So almost exactly same as the one in my photo. 🤣 Wow.

2

u/guarddog33 Jul 01 '26

Yeah the pro is priced crazy

You can still find PS5 digital for $500-600 where I am, which is the comparison I'm attempting to draw

Ps6 pro $2K easy

I looked into this not to long ago.  When ChatGPT was released, the United States invested billions of dollars into making new foundries.  The earliest that these investments could materialize is right about now.

You say that prices won't drop, but building data centers is more resource intensive than maintaining data centers.  If the AI bubble bursts, we should benefit from the increased production capacity.

1

u/guarddog33 Jul 02 '26

There's a problem with your last statement that's likely going to be going to court shortly, there's reason to believe currently that the shortage is artificially manufactured in the first place, Louis Rossman is taking Samsung(I think that was the company) to court over it because they refused to honor the warranty on a faulty item when they have the item for sale

Depending on the turnout of the discovery and ruling on that, you could be right or you could not, time will tell there

3

u/Buddycat2308 Jul 01 '26

From what I understand ram and ssd manufacturers are actually making far less than they are capable of producing because they know the bubble is gonna pop soon.

However given the lack of competition amongst manufacturers, it’s hard to know if prices will go back down when demand does.

2

u/guarddog33 Jul 01 '26

Yeah I was just talking to a buddy about this the other day, there's a law suit being opened about this, I don't remember by who (it's a tech reviewer) against a larger SSD company if I remember right, they had their hard drive fail within the warranty period and when they reached out the manufacturer told them they can't replace it because they don't have stock, meanwhile you can buy the same SSD on Amazon so it's clear there is stock or at least the capability of it, etc

Right now the manufacturers are expecting the bubble to pop at some point and no one wants to be holding the warehouse full of RAM when it does because then they stand to lose who knows how much money. The problem is that squeeze is on the consumers, not the manufacturers, and it fucking blows

ready for 1K consoles and 3K entry level PCs everyone. The future is now

Without a controller too

1

u/Hey-Gang Jul 01 '26

I'm building a new PC and keeping my GPU and PSU, the price for DDR5 ram is fucking nuts, even for 8-16gb. You can buy a gpu for the prices of some of them. I started selling a lot of old games which are collectors items now apparently and my also my ps4 on Ebay just to help fund it. There's no chance I'm getting a new GPU this year anyway, even the budget ones are close to 500 euro, the RTX 2070 Super I have right now still does amazing in 1080p considering it's 7 years old. I just need a much better CPU considering I am still using an 15-8600k and one stick of 16gb ram. All I have left is the CPU which I'm close to getting, and changing to an AMD Ryzen 5 (probably next week), then comes the dreaded "look for 16gb of DDR5 RAM that doesn't leave me bankrupt"

1

u/Jesus__Skywalker Jul 01 '26

Yeah even if AI takes a downward trend

you will never see less ai than now. It's at it's infancy. This statement would be like being back in 98 saying "As soon as this whole internet thing dies off".

1

u/guarddog33 Jul 01 '26

I'm open to being told this is goalpost moving but I more or less mean specifically generative AI. LLMs have been around since the 80s, those aren't ever going anywhere

But generative AI is where the market would disagree with you. Companies like Anthropic have outright said that their current business model is not anywhere near profitable and that they're hemorrhaging money between their subscription models and investments, but they're doing it to be the one that comes out on top when all the competitors fail. It's much more akin to the Google/bing/altavista/excite/ask jeeves/etc. there will absolutely continue to be AI, there just will be less, it's more a matter of time than anything else

1

u/Jesus__Skywalker Jul 01 '26

lmao, put a remindme on this for like 5 and 10 years. There is NO WAY you are ever returning to this post and saying "I knew there would be less ai".

There will never be. You're only looking at one sliver of ai. Leaving out machine learning and all of the ai's that are being used in manufacturing and all other aspects of business, medical technology, etc. It may blend into our lives to the point of not really considering what it is either way. Just like everything used to be "cyber" and "web" or "I". Now everything is more intertwined with the internet than ever before. But people don't talk about it and point it out constantly. Ai will be the same.

1

u/guarddog33 Jul 01 '26

I'm not necessarily saying there will be less AI, I think you're misunderstanding me. I think broad spectrum consumer based AI will not be feasible in a matter of years. It will absolutely still have applications in online spaces, content browsing, machine automation, med tech, etc, and that's fine. Those are all much smaller in scope, much more rigorously analyzed, and fed data that is much more coherent and factually correct. They also don't require nearly the immense amount of resources being taken up for consumer forward models do. But things like a million people a day asking chatGPT how they're doing or whatever, or using any of the programs to create pictures/videos, will have a drawdown because they're not profitable to maintain

The ai bubble will pop, that's not to say investment will stop, the .com bubble popped and yet websites still exist. But it will lead back into less major market buyouts of computer parts through multi year contracts which will help average out consumer markets again. To deny that would be crazy

10

u/jsand2 Jul 01 '26

This isnt even true. There is literally a lawsuit about this right now. There is no shortage, the RAM companies are just price gouging us b/c they can.

3

u/Jesus__Skywalker Jul 01 '26

idk whose feeding you that, but there is a shortage. the demand is higher than ever.

2

u/jsand2 Jul 01 '26

Oh so you cant buy RAM right now b/c of the shortage?

I just found well over 50 options just on Amazon. They can be delivered tomorrow or the next day. Shortage my ass. There is no shortage.

Its called fake demand to raise prices.

2

u/Jesus__Skywalker Jul 01 '26

It's not, if the prices drop to those levels they get gobbled up. It's not fake demand. You know how many people doing ai stuff are buying 128gb of ram? It's not just consumers that need ram. Businesses, manufacturing, etc

2

u/jsand2 Jul 01 '26

Except it is.

It's not just consumers that need ram. Businesses, manufacturing, etc

As a business professional who specializes in computer technology, including AI, I am fully aware.

Once again, there is no shortage, only fake demand.

1

u/Jesus__Skywalker Jul 01 '26

Nobody asked for your resume homie. You may do tech, I do investing. I know how price action works and they aren't pricing out the market. Supply and demand is the driver. If you have no real evidence to support what you're saying, then that's that. But your viewpoint on this simply isn't correct

Even if they lose, they will continue to operate as is and pay the fine/settlement. It's literally the cost of doing business for them.

1

u/helldive_lifter Jul 02 '26

Exactly! Gamersnexus has a video showing receipts of certain people at certain ram corporations talking about how 1 person increased the price of ram to get out a competitor cos they didn’t like the competition then it went haywire

1

u/CrAkKedOuT Jul 01 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/bwaredapenguin Jul 01 '26

That's the goal. That's the rule now.

1

u/McWindow7 Jul 02 '26

jfc what a time to be alive

4

u/Plenty-Estate5735 Jul 01 '26

Nah it’s actually surprisingly easy to do with anything pre-current gen. I either modded or soft modded my PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, DSI, Wii and Oculus Quest 3.

I’ve even heard PS5 is jailbreakable on certain firmware versions, but I won’t be fiddling with that until we get next gen so I don’t lose my ability to play current-gen games online :p

2

u/CaliggyJack Jul 01 '26

PCXS5 is already chugging along with a PS5 emulator. And the PS4 emulators are accelerating faster than expected.

1

u/Jesus__Skywalker Jul 01 '26

should upgrade to pc

5

u/Darkmesah Jul 01 '26

Also games are so heavy nowadays, usually when you download pirated roms it’s always fishy sites running on very slow servers so good luck cracking a 160gb game

2

u/Plenty_Rent_1154 Jul 01 '26

If the official way gets too cubersome there will be pirated content distributed and sold for cheap. Basic economics will take care of this.

2

u/CaliggyJack Jul 01 '26

Consoles can try, but they cannot stop emulators. They will always find a way.

1

u/xdoble7x Jul 01 '26

Yes eventually, but we barely have a ps3 emulator and PS4 is still very very early...

3

u/CaliggyJack Jul 01 '26

But the PS4 emulator has accelerated past a lot of experts expectations.

1

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Jul 01 '26

Idk, news like this tends to heavily motivate jailbreakers to find solutions. I wouldn't be surprised at this point if the PS5 ends up jailbroken by the end of the year strictly out of spite

1

u/Pwebslinger78 Jul 01 '26

Time to save up for a pc at this point. I’m glad I bought a prebuild early this year . I’m ax guy ally pissed we now won’t have an option after the next year . Looks like I’m getting discs for any games I can noe
