🧠 Mental Augmentation Brain implants

I had a post taken down I believe is because i was talking about how it has happened to me snd that was seen as a conspiracy theory. I didn’t mean to take it in that direction. Im genuinely curious what this community thoughts are on this subject. Do you think it will cure people who lack empathy. Or you might like delinquents being tracked or insane people who wont get help. Im just curious what all you alls thoughts are on this.

That’s a lot of long-term speculation.

The answer is we don’t know if the implants will ever be able to do those things. With respect to empathy: it also brings up a philosophical question of whether it’s ethical to use technology to alter someone’s personality this way, and opens up a can of worms on accountability, identity, and personhood.

As for being tracked: very unlikely. I don’t foresee medical implants having unnecessary complexity added just to have unnecessary features. That introduces additional points of failure with unpredictable consequence (on something that’s directly installed on to someone’s brain, no less).

Also, if the government really wanted to track you, they already can. You likely went out and happily purchased that tracking device and take very good care of it. It’s called your smartphone. They probably don’t actually track you unless there’s some specific reason to, like you’re the subject of an investigation.

It’s ethical if the patient has chosen it after being fully and truthfully informed of everything they need to know in order to make a decision. Any system of ethics that denies that is incompatible with self-ownership.

Well, sure. But then it opens up an entire book of debates, right? For example, if someone is lacking in empathy to a pathological degree, how do we know their refusal stems from the core of who they are as a person, or the result of what is now, technically, a correctable disease or something to that effect? Can you conclude that it is the disease talking, and force it on them, even if it will result in a drastic personality change?

Or suppose you decide to strike the middle route. They have the option to select the treatment, but if they do not, they will be separated from society for safety reasons. Well now they're being sort of coerced, aren't they? Any decision made under those circumstances might not be any real decision at all.

It's an interesting debate, but also one I think that goes round and round.

Also at which point someone is "Human" if society allow individual to remove every biochemical reactions alongside their body

Would society allow for example someone to remove his dopamine, empathy ? What good would it does ?

I personally fear more the drift from Transhuman to Posthumanism than any eventual skynet scenario as this one is certain to happen, people will modify themselves and even if society manage to restrict it, if we spread to other stars distance will make any regulation completely impossible

As the years and decades pass people will transform their moral values based on their new modified emotions and body, we will basically create our own aliens species that may have conflict interest and belief between each other resulting in pointless suffering in the long run

There a saying " The body make the mind" as our body, our brains, our biochemical reactions is what make ourselves, if we modify that we also modify the way we view the world and how we interact with it -- it shouldn't be oversight and taken lightly

Not that I advocate against body morphological freedom, just that people doesn't seem to think about it's consequence

I don't like the idea of external regulation. If somebody has a disorder that makes it impossible for them to empathize then you should correct the disorder. But the idea that there is "behavior" that could be modified because it's considered "delinquent" is a slippery slope

I mean, what's to know and what's to discuss that you won't find in the comments section of any of neuralinks videos?

Thank you. I couldn’t find any posts on this subreddit about the finer legal points for wide scale adoption.
