Republicans Launch $100m Ads Misrepresenting Gender-Transition Care
davisvanguard.org“Republican candidates and political committees have spent more than $100 million since August on advertisements referencing gender-transition procedures, making transgender medical care a prominent issue in the 2026 midterm elections as independent fact-checkers find that some campaigns have misrepresented candidates’ voting records and the medical procedures available to minors.”
“An Oct. 12 investigation by FactCheck.org found that Republican candidates and outside organizations spent more than $100 million on over 200 television, streaming and digital advertisements containing the phrase ‘sex change’ between Aug. 1 and the publication of the analysis.
More than $77 million of that spending occurred in U.S. Senate races, according to FactCheck.org’s review of advertising data collected by AdImpact.
“The investigation examined advertisements in Ohio, Texas and Alaska that claimed Democratic candidates supported gender-transition surgeries for children or taxpayer financing of such procedures. In several instances, fact-checkers found that the advertisements relied on votes against legislation that restricted a substantially broader range of medical treatments.”
“The advertisements highlight a recurring feature of political messaging: complex legislative decisions can be reduced to claims that do not accurately describe what a candidate voted for or against.”
“A PolitiFact investigation published Aug. 28 similarly examined advertisements in Kansas, Iowa and other states, finding instances where edited statements or legislative votes were presented without important context.”

Propositions 134 and 135 do nothing to protect women
"As the president and CEO of The Women’s Foundation of Colorado and a parent of kids who played sports, I urge you to join me in voting no on Propositions 134 and 135 by November 3rd. At first glance, these measures might seem like rational ways to protect Colorado’s girls and women. In reality, they are efforts to further define who is a woman or girl and control our private healthcare decisions. They are divisive distractions meant to avert our focus from the issues truly impacting women, girls, and families in our state."

Why Calling Anti-Trans Hate a “Distraction” Is So Troubling
“I have lost count of how many times I’ve left work over the past five years only to realize one push notification later that I had more rights in the morning than I did in the afternoon. The week after Trump’s passport executive order, I kept forgetting to breathe. While social media swirled with speculation about what this was meant to distract the public away from, visions of a grim future unspooled in my head. When it feels like your world is ending and the most people can be bothered to say about it is that something actually important must be happening somewhere else, the clear message is that what is happening to you is a second-tier issue—that you don’t really count.”
