And who can blame them given what a great leader Zuckerberg has been for them.

I am going to be downvoted for this but he has been great for Meta overall. Their stocks keep going up and he pivots to the hot thing and actually invests real tangible money into them even when they could potentially fail (ie Metaverse).
You can make arguments about the ethics for sure but his upside far outweighs his negatives.

Betting on metaverse didnt seem good for shareholders, but sucking up to trump certainly helped him ride AI bubble.
Everything he does seems bad for society and people though.

Doesn’t look like this had any effect on their stock performance. It is up significantly.

Nothing he has spent money on has been fruitful. He has yet come to the terms that he is one trick pony that hit a major product market fit.

I know you are going to be upvoted and I’m going to be downvoted but you are objectively incorrect on this,
Instagram. Fruitful.
Threads. Fruitful.
WhatsApp. Fruitful.
Meta Glasses. Fruitful.
Facebook Marketplace. Fruitful.
I get that people don’t like him for good reason but there needs to be a line drawn between the reality of not liking someone and the obvious successes they have had.
Arguments about the ethics of what he has done is different than the success he has brought to Meta and people who own shares. No matter how much Reddit or other echo chambers say otherwise.

Lame WhatsApp and insta are acquired products. Rest of it doesn’t move the needle.

u/pureply101 16m ago
He spent money on them and they are fruitful.
Your original comment said “Nothing he has spent money on has been fruitful”.
You are moving the bar for what you want deem spending or what you see as fruitful here. Which just goes to show you aren’t really saying stuff in good faith.

Unlimited money cheat activated with Facebook.
Never managed to evolve it beyond the original concept in any meaningful or tangible way.
Will grant they made some good purchases to kill off potential completion but have now driven those platforms from hot new things, into bloated shit.
Nothing remotely exciting, new or positive has come out of a meta in a decade. Metaverse, glasses, their AI. All really disliked.

Zuck hires his buddies for the board.
I’m sure Dana White knows a lot about running a technology company 🙄

u/PeteCampbellisaG 58m ago
Dana knows Meta will give him millions in sponsorship deals and all he has to do is let Zuck hold one of the fighters' jock straps from time to time.

What was Mr Moskowitz’s ownership share diluted down to?
What was Sean Parker’s ownership share diluted down to?
What was Peter Thiel’s ownership share diluted down to?

I don’t get the point of publicly traded companies with single person control
5
u/Street_Anxiety2907 19m ago
They're effectively 1 man private companies with access to trillions of public investment dollars, stock portfolios etc
What part did you not get?
6
u/GenericFatGuy 36m ago
They want to be dictators, but they're too soft for a coup, and no one will vote for them.
-19
u/bb0110 1h ago
I don’t get companies that try to push out the guy who founded it and brought it to the levels that it has achieved.
10
u/giraloco 58m ago
If you seek investments from others you give away control. That's how it typically works. A few are able to get money and keep control.

Private companies can be run by founders. Public companies by their nature did not get to where they are by a single founder, they got there ONLY with the investment from the public. If they were that successful they wouldn't need massive amounts of public investment to succeed. And if they go public then the single founder is merely a mascot and has very little to do with the success of a massive team. They are just managers. The team made the car. Elon Musk doesn't know how to build an electric car.
-6
u/bb0110 57m ago
You’re missing the forest for the trees. Sure, musk has no idea how to build an electric car but do you really think it would be one of the biggest companies in the country if not for him? If you want to boil guys like musk, jobs, etc down to marketing and sales people that is fine, but they are the best in the world at that and it’s a large part of what makes the company so prolific.

I hate the guy but I can acknowledge without him the Model S would be a curiosity in a car museum somewhere and the best EV on the market would look like the goddamn Nissan Leaf. The old one.

The committee said Zuckerberg was a visionary.
Guess they forgot why the company is now called “Meta”

u/CircumspectCapybara 2h ago edited 2h ago
That's how Meta's corporate governance has always been structured: there's voting and non-voting shares, and Zuckerberg chooses not to sell his voting-privileged stake below 51% so he can retain control.
People and institutions willingly buy non-voting class shares because they still have value, allowing you to share in the profits of one of the most successful tech giants even if you can't vote. That's the tradeoff for common shareholders.
The tradeoff for Zuckerberg is Meta isn't able to raise as much capital, because Meta's shares would be wortha lot more if they came with voting rights. If META is worth so much without voting rights, imagine what it would fetch if it came with voting rights. Zuckerberg wants to retain control, that's his right as the majority owner, the tradeoff is his company is worth less than it could be
1
u/dmcnaughton1 1h ago
But is there a tradeoff of some kind? That part is unclear.
4
u/CircumspectCapybara 1h ago
Yes.
Zuckerberg makes less money in exchange for more control of Meta.
Common shareholders get cheaper shares or shares they wouldn't have otherwise had access to (if Meta only had voting shares and the owner refused to sell any, and there weren't non-voting shares available) in exchange for less voting rights
The tradeoffs are more control for less money, and more money for less control

I don't know. I'm just hearing that maybe instead of one person getting the money it'd be 1 person and 5-6 people sitting around a table getting the money. Honestly I can't see the difference.

u/Blackstar1886 1h ago
I'm surprised shareholders haven't tried harder to remove him.
15
u/RemarkableSpace444 1h ago
Why would they remove him when the stock is not that far off it’s all-time high?

u/GenazaNL 21m ago
Crazy for a company where facebook died, instagram slowely is too, the Metaverse flopped, Meta's AI flooped too, Oculus is dying & thread is dead too. Also constantly hit with fines

His board is basically a who's-who of people I've never heard of before, like that one time I tried to invest in a tech stock and immediately got overwhelmed by the names.

There’s nothing more depressing than realizing these unaccountable billionaires will probably live another 50 years and have armies of robots at their beck and call while actual people starve.

Dude is every sub just anti America and anti American companies now? How are people in the technology sub having so many opinions about a ceo that they know nothing about instead of actually talking about tech?

Do you know anything about this CEO? It would appear not.
