They've been lying since day one about hiding dislike counts, claiming "oh, we don't want creators to be harassed lmao" where it was clearly implemented to protect advertisers and brand interests. And in that 2021 announcement video they boldly claimed "At least you can still dislike videos, other platforms won't even allow that".

5 years later, here we are.

Nah, it was done to boost right wing content creators on a platform which historically wants nothing to do with them. They did it very specifically in response to Trump and co saying that big tech censors conservative voices.

Whereas the actual numbers showed that rather than censoring them, it amplified their content significantly.

There was also heavy brigading from the right on White House vids from when Biden was president. They’d go there, downvote the video and then go “Huehuehuehue look at how everyone hates Biden”.

This is just a burden for YouTube, as a few clicks while a video plays for a second doesn’t drive revenue. They want people to interact with it; leave a comment, link the video somewhere else.

Youtube historically has demonetized Right-wing content.

Youtube has certainly demonetized hate, bigotry and misinformation content, yes.

Put aside your bias for a moment and realize this. A lot of people who cover guns or any general military applications often end up demonetized.

Never mind guns or military, bona fide history channels - no, not pop history clickbait BS - also get fucked.

Pretty much the only content that you can make on YouTube without any friction is makeup tutorials and vlogs. Wahey it's Instagram now.

Those are not inherently right wing.

As they should, people shouldn't be profiting off making firearms seem cool to kids.

What does anything he said have to do with kids? The internet isn't for, or about, children.

If a space is not set up to restrict children from accessing content that content should be kid friendly.

That's their parents job to handle. Demanding the platforms do so is the justification for that invasive ID laws

You can't just hand wave away the real problems unrestricted internet access causes because parents should do it when you know they don't.

There are ways it could be implemented that are not invasive if the government is competent.

Absolutely fuck no, your stupid kids are not everyone else's responsibility. Why would we treat ~10% of the population as the default?

I am not a parent. I have no interest in being one. That is why I am concerned and believe we need systems in place. Parents will not do this well enough to solve the real problems it creates, so we as a society need to.

About 21% of the US, globally it is closer to 25%

Edit: u/redaero replied and blocked me 🤣

Gun culture and portraying weapons as fun toys leads to children growing up in that mindset. We need to protect children because failing to do so has real consequences for everyone

Parents will not do this well enough to solve the real problems it creates, so we as a society need to.

Kids seeing guns is not a problem, does not cause problems, and does not need any solving. The problem that needs solving is moral busybodies such as yourself projecting your personal issues onto "society" and ruining the world for everyone in the false name of "protecting children".

I have a much better idea: why don't we bar you from the internet instead? Or better yet, from society in general? Seeing as how the mindset you represent - thoughtless, kneejerk moralizing on the basis of irrational emotional reactions - is pretty much the root of most evil today, I think that's more than fair.

Keep your stupid fucking concerns to yourself.

One, as if that makes any difference to the point I made, and two, what percentage of those are old enough to use the internet without assistance?
